Yikes. :( It's sick that that's actually true.

Oh, she also wears some kind of cap/hat to meetings when underneath her hair is all green, pink, orange, purple. Somehow it's worked for years.

my mum taught us very valuable lessons about Jehovah in her special way. Any other parents out there as psycho?

ok before i start i know my mum was um "special" and had some, well...... bizzare training ideas.. .

i was one of 7 kids, dad didnt help much coz he was sick, so my mum was left to run the 'ship' and she did it with an iron fist.. .

we were never late for a meeting we sat, parents and 2 kids in one row the other 5 in row in front.

My parents had somewhat similar lessons, but theirs were to teach about RCism. I got the belt (or the "strap" as my dad called it), the football treatment, smacked bloody, all kinds of goodies.

I suspect that, after I turned out wrong, they wised up somehow ... because my 2 younger brothers never got much more than verbal abuse, and my dad even paid attention to them occasionally, which was a major improvement in his technique.

i leave in 1995, wake up 15 yrs later to see what has been going on in the jw religion and find out it is completely different from what i left.

Someone I know just got her mother's blessing to get a tattoo where she has some surgery scars. The mom is a very devoted and active JW, and the "someone" is currently preparing for baptism. (same "someone" also has a number of piercings, mostly different kinds of ear piercings, one or two are in .. other places)

If You Really Want to Bring Down Jehovah's Witnesses (for your peace of mind)

The way I see it, "my" JW friend is unlikely to leave precisely because she has friends and family "stuck in the cult." If she DAs herself, she loses her mother, father, and especially her dead brother ... none of whom will she see in "Paradise." To me that seems like a pretty water-tight strangle hold. Especially for a female (I have obversed that females are particularly sensitive to maintaining ties with their family, a lot more so than males), what rational argument is there to push back against THAT much perceived loss?

it's sad to see that some things just don't change in the area of protecting priests involved with sexual abuse, even if it happened decades ago!

the church should be ashamed of their knowing that certain priests are pedophiles and they are still priests, acting as a mediator between christ and people..

There is definitely an element of mind control at work in many of the trappings of both RC as well as Protestant religions. The huge pipe organs, soaring cathedral ceilings, toothy gargoyles, etc ... all done with the intention to instill a sense of dumb-struck awe for God's majesty and might, and very effective, especially a huge cathedral organ at full swell which can literally shake you to your core.

But if this is the definition of a cult, then what religion is not a cult? If this meaning is applied, then "religion" is merely a proper subset of "cult".

Should I walk away from my "underwater" home?

millions are now facing the dilemma of making house payments on a property that is not worth what is being paid.

after originally promising to repay the bank, is there a "moral" obligation to continue in a dwelling, even at a loss ... or is it best to exercise the "legal" right of foreclosure and pay the consequences ?.

I am in this situation too. Like moshe's friend, I refi'ed and took money out. My current loan is a little less than 2x what I paid for the place in 2001. Being one of those loans based on a 30year amortizaton, and having that "feature" where the payments don't start reducing principle until so many years in, I've basically been paying interest only. When I did the refi I didn't care because I fully expected to sell the place at a profit and move along.

All throughout 2009 I kept procrastinating about do another refi to get a better rate (my current rate is 6.x). Then in December I was informed I was being laid off at the end of the year. Now, being currently unemployed, I am continuing to hesitate to try to refi because I doubt I could get a low rate without having a current employer. I have couple job interviews coming up, so I'm not freaking out about it, but it's definitely not a pleasant situation. I wish I could walk away from this stupid house, cash out what little I have, and move to Cambodia or something.

it is a peculiar experience.. once you are out of the kingdom hall forever and haven't been in field service for many years...... a knock comes at your front door and you answer it only to find:.

jehovah's witnesses!.

that happened to me......finally.. in the last decade i don't think i've encountered anything other than mormons or drug ministry fund raisers at my door.. but--this time, it was the real thing.. it was two sisters and they weren't much older than their 20's.. they didn't know i was satan himself, of course and i was reluctant to interrupt them and tell them.. what to do---what to do?

Why Jehovah's Witnesses Are Discouraged From Using the Internet

at a recent series of circuit assemblies, the governing body put out warnings on what in their view is the latest danger from satan, designed to break the faith of jehovah's witnesses everywhere.. facebook.. yes, thats right, apparantly, the gb is concerned because a lot of people are having "facebook sex".

they are meeting old friends who aren't jehovah's witnesses and getting it on with whomever would willingly sleep with them.

evidentally, the gb would like their flock to believe that when jw's get on facebook and other social networking sites, fornication happens.. now, this is news.

There is plenty of sex on the internet, but Facebook? lol. This clearly shows that whoever is putting out this decree has probably never even used the internet. If they had, they would have started the admonishments around 20 years ago, and pointed a finger at AOL chat rooms. They had another chance starting around 10 years ago, with interactive cam sharing sites.
