Yes, I agree he'll need much support! I just hate he had to throw away 15 years at Bethel. It seems like such a waste.

Hello Board,
So I had a really good friend go to Bethel years ago and he got put out to pasture like so many others. I procured his telephone number from one of his DF'ed family members and sent him a text message asking if he'd like to make contact with an old friend. Mostly everyone from my hometown knows my ex-JW status, so I didn't announce myself in the text. We went back and forth for a few texts with clues to my identity, until finally he gave in and called. To my SHOCK we ended up having quite a lengthy telephone call.
Oddly enough, we didn't discuss anything JW related. I'm not sure where he stands with the faith but my gut tells me he may be on the way out. Number one, he didn't try to lure me back to the hall, and number two he actually TALKED to me. I know several of his family members are doing a slow fade, so I'm hoping he's on the same track.
Anyway, none of my non-JW related friends understand the joyousness of this, so I thought I'd share it with everyone here!
Blessings,
Tiffany

Dona,
I've been exactly where you are now, and you're in a great place. I can only echo what everyone has already said. Your daughter will come around. My grandmother, mother, sister and brothers all came around. One aunt (special pioneer) who had vowed never to talk to me again called me a few months ago and we talked for three hours. The people who were really friends of mine are STILL friends, even though I faded nearly ten years ago. You WILL survive this, and you won't be lost or broken forever.

Suing the tower
by Tired of the Hypocrisy inhttp://www.jehovahs-witness.com/7/157788/1.ashx.
in the above thread, otwo made a comment about how someone might sue the wt based on their shunning policy.
i have not seen the topic discussed here and have been unsuccessful in getting the search function of the site to gather information about it, but i wonder if we as a group could sue the washtowel society.

Hey, I'm DOWN for the class action law suit. I was a minor when I got baptized (16) and born and raised on the inside. Their shunning caused a suicide attempt and counseling, and I turned down major scholarship money based on their "no college" rules. I would like them to have to pay my student loans!!!

@ What-a-Coincidence,
Yeah, my friend has very low morale. He came home and lived with a family member for a minute, but I don't know where he's living now. I think the killing part that his "claim to fame" was being a Bethelite. I mean, he could ask fam and friends for money, because he was a "Bethelite" and now he's just like a grown man scrub or something.

daniel,
i did pretty much the same thing as you to get my undergrad degree. I'm hoping my ex-bethelite friend talks to me, because I'm going to definitely suggest this option to him. I'm just afraid he's been so used to living the "society way" that he won't be able to adapt to the real world.

Knocking on the Doors of Classmates out in service
by new light incould anything have been more embarrassing?
you could be at the door of the least popular munger in school, but overwhelmed with envy because, hey, at least he was doing something normal.
in 8th grade, at the peak of childhood self-consciousness, i knocked on the door of a super popular, rich, "in" kid from my class and he answered the door.

LOL at Layla....My delicious pioneer crush went away to Bethel too. He actually just got downsized. But it was so funny how my mom was pleased about my sudden "zeal"! She let me go out in service from sun up (street witnessing) to sun down (evening service). It was just one long flirt fest :)

An old friend of mine just got "downsized" by Bethel. He went there when he was 20 years old and is now 34. He's gone home to live with his family and is working a low paying job. Honestly, I hurt for him. I remember when we were in High School how smart this guy was! He could've been a CEO of someone's company or even an entrepreneur. It's not too late for him to go back to school, but dang, those student loans are gonna be a mutha! Maybe Bethel should provide scholarships for the guys they put out to pasture....

This post is so funny to me!!! Actually though, I didn't really have a huge problem with seeing my classmates out in service. There was a pretty sizable group of JWs at my High school and we had our own clique. Plus, the only reason I was out in service was because of the delicious regular pioneer that I was in love with!!! LOL. I did however used to pretend to ring the bells on general principle because I just didn't want to have to do my presentation.

I think my friends were just getting there as you were leaving. I don't know the person you're speaking about. The Bethelites I know are all from Cleveland, OH.
