Blondie, I remember those warnings also! What's so funny is that my mom took all of us to see it after the book study and 'accidently' took her bible in with her.....guess she felt she needed it to fend off Darth Vadar! LOL!

by Cindi_67 inthis is an email i received from my brother in law:.
after discussing with our family and several friends about the popular movie avatar, and the prevalence of "avatars" on the internet, we thought that other friends might be interested in what we found in our family worship research, tell us what you think:.

There was a couple who went to my old congregation who were regs...lived in an old cramped basement apartment(beside the kingdom hall), bought all their clothes/household goods from goodwill, food was contributed or was bought at the cheapest grocery, the car they drove had no a/c and was breaking down all the time...they worked odd jobs and didn't have heathcare. The sister died from cancer that could've been diagnosed if they had been able to afford going to the doc..but this was what they chose and so seemed happy...this was years ago and is now very sad.
I don't think you can put a price tag on that.

While You Were A JW Did You Feel Controlled?
by minimus inthe governing body constantly tries to impose its will on jehovah's witnesses.
they really don't want you to do anything but society approved things.
everything is "bad".. we can see this quite clearly at this point.

But, now, with the recent information about how to keep your hands to yourself during prayer.
Emptyinside - got to know what this is about.....please please tell me!
I was a born in and as I got older didn't like the way I was controlled by my mother and the elders.
In my old congregation - they would drive around and look for familiar cars and snoop on what everyone was doing!!! If they saw your car at a house they didn't know, they would start asking around and check the phonebook and call them....unfreakingbelievable! I was 'silently reproved' because my car was at someone's house they didn't know and assumed I was doing the dirty with some worldly boy.....I was visiting a female school friend - which was worse! LOL!

Thank you Independent! I have really enjoyed this - reading everyone's experiences and realizing that I am NOT alone as some people want you to believe!
I was a born in and it was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life was to leave - now I have no family (youngest of six). I regret that for my kids but they will realize one day that I saved them from a life of misery! Couldn't be happier!

You know what's even worse than not getting to go to the prom? Your older sister getting to go and going with another witless much older! Unfreakingbelievable! And three years later, asking to go since she got to go and mom saying "no! it is a worldly gathering and bad association blah blah blah!" Then why the hell did you let her go? Because she was going with a witless, as if that made it right!!
Didn't get to go to college either....but my kids are definitely going! I am reliving my childhood thru them....Christmas, birthdays, Halloween etc....loving it!!!!

nightmares after leaving
by myownlife inhello everyone, i have been reading the different topics and haven't seen this discussed..... i was raised in the 'truth' and decided when i was 19 this was not for me...but unfortunately it took years after that to finally make the clean break.
during that time and up until about a year ago, i was having strange and disturbing nightmares..it finally came to a head when i dreamed that i cussed out the elders in the congregation i had left.,..woke up in a sweat but felt great!
has anyone else experienced this?

Thank you dissed! This is new and wonderful to be able to state my opinions!!
I would also dream about coming to a meeting and deciding right in the middle of the Sunday morning talk that I didn't care to be there...get up and start yelling at everyone how stupid and blind they are! Wild!

I would have the bad dreams after being contacted by my mother who is still deep in the 'truth' after 50 years...she is the queen of guilt and we would have arguments. But now, I can have a sane conversation with her and no more bad dreams! Glad I'm not the only one!
