Yes, it is, in every state. People tend to forget the child protection act or Mondale law of 1974, a federal law superseding state law, requiring, teachers, counselors, clergy, etc. to report child abuse.

You, as an elder or a mandatory reporter, ( due to my job, I am a mandatory reporter) It's not your job as an elder to decide or investigate validity. It's the law.

after my experiences on the internet from ajwr to h2o to this forum, however, i'm beginning to appreciate that all is not "black" and "white" but many shades of gray, many hues of stunning colors, and a mixture.. why not use the words killed or executed to describe the fate of these evil people, i asked the co afterwards?

Oh, man! Oh god, Umm wow, I 'm just laughing too damn hard right now to write. Damn, dude! Yup, that's what we do out here, lead people to lives of depravity! Oh, man, Rick, thank you somuch for the laugh, & reminding me of exactly what a self righteous prig I used to be. It's so humbling. I'm reminded of my uncle, who left the jw when he was 18, & everyone was so down on him for smoking alittle pot now & then. How evil he was. My big, wonderful firefighter/paramedic uncle,who's saved countless lives in 20 or so years of fighting fires & paramedic work, who sat & took care of his brother, my dad, while he died, his brother who allowed himself to be taken care of, but would'nt speak to his baby bro. He got looked down on by his elder dad, who wouldnt talk to him, until he, my grandpa, needed help because he had been indicted on several counts of fraudulently stealing the life savings of elderly people. Who stopped talking to him again after he was re-instated in prison. Yeah, we have SO much time on our hands to corrupt others. We often do the job on ourselves well enough due to having our self esteem & self worth destroyed by shunning. How many lives have you saved? How many times have you truly followed the parable of the good samaritan? See, the samaritans were an offshoot of judaism, apostates if you will.But, I forgot, you save lives w/ magazines, not in actuality like jesus said. Did the bethelites really close their windows & keep on working on sept. 11th? When all the refugees were running across the brooklyn bridge? Get off your self righteous ass & go to a cancer ward & volunteer, go deal w/ the mentally handicapped, go REALLY help others for awhile, then come back. I can't be too angry at you Rick, once upon a time, I was you.

Baptised Twice!
by PopeOfEruke inmy friends mother has been a jw for ages, and i was amazed when i heard she was baptized twice as a jw, once in the 1940's and again in about 1961. .
whats the deal with that??
she mumbles something about things changed in those years and the earlier baptism was invalid or needed re-doing.... .

I recall the re-baptism of a mildly mentally handicapped man in the mid 80's. Whether this was done merely to humor his wishes or what, I don't know.

Jim, great post! I also have my reservations about the legal system, I work w/ kids who've been taken away by csd every day. I also deal w kids who've been through things that make you want to cry or vomit, or both every damn day. I believe the threat of false accusation is there, but not relavant to the jw's not reporting it. It's the law. It's the right thing to do. The people that are sent on these cases are trained to deal w/ these things, & w/ what we know, I believe, are getting better at it. The vast majority of elders have absolutely NO training on how to investigate these things, much less treat & counsel these people. But, the word of the society, saying, "Beware of psychologists" & "Our counsel is easily as good & effective as these people". I've even heard an elder say, re: my schizophrenic stepdad"A psychologist is good for nothing, you might as well give me the money." Well, my stepdad listened to them, but ended up walking barefoot on the side of I-5, telling everyone he was an angel, & ending up in the looney bin anyway. It's the law, & has no conflict w/ there perception of biblical law. Psychologist's are trained for an average of 8 yrs. Elders recive little if no training, plus due to nepotism or god knows what, Ive known elders w/ I.Q's ranging somewhere between that of a sage hen & a bowling ball. I've heard them spouting there own "interpretation" of Jw doctrine. One time I came home to my superman collection destroyed by my newbie in jw stepdad, because some moron elder told him superman was a false god. Same dipshit elder also said jw's can't be cremated because god needed to resurect our bodies. Hey, God, good luck w/ Abraham, Isaac, & jacob!

Beautiful Garbage, let me first of all commend you for your caution. I agree that false allegations are horrible as even the allegation is a black mark on someone forever. But I would like to clarify my question, I was tired when I wrote it, No excuse, I know. But I wonder why people don't believe that the elders don't turn these people in as a precedent. They don't, & its the law! I don't care if it's just an accusation, it needs to be investigated by qualified people, by those who may even be more qualified to EXONERATE the innocent. And, w/ everyones discussion of which states have mandatory reporting, it's a moot point, because there is a Federal law, the 1974 mondale act, which supersedes all of these state laws. Why do people deny coverups in such an isolationist society?

Good point. Even the thought of molesting a child is so far-fetched as to seem impossible to myself, but I know it happened to my lil' bro. Thanks for clearing this up, IW, But, assuming the bible is at least somewhat true, The whole stiff-backed & proud thing won't wash. It did'nt work for Pharoh, or saul. In fact, It said God allowed their hearts to be come hard. Is God doing this to the leader's of bethell? If so, why?
