Entertaining: Snack Foods

what would you serve as a substantial snack food for mid-afternoon?.

i am not looking for anything formal like tea and crumpets.. i am not looking for prissy stuff like raw carrot sticks.. i am not looking for something expensive like fancy wine and cheese.. not looking for anything really really sweet, either.. .

i am looking for man-food....like maybe something that would go with deviled eggs.

Knorr vegetable soup mix has a great spinach dip recipe, I just made it today, and it's easy. Another one that's a big hit, and easy, is you take like, four blocks of cream cheese, press them together, chill, and top w/ cocktail shrimp and cocktail sauce. If cocktail sauce is expensive, mix some ketchup, horseradish and lemon juice, and you have a reasonable facsimile. Serve w/ crackers. Gonna go downstairs and grab some spinach dip for a snack

Amen, Moshe! Just look at all the poetry from the 19th century about dead children. Read biographies from then, i.e so and so had 10 children, 2 of whom survived to maturity, etc. There's a haunting story written by one fo my great, great etc. grandparents about losing TWO large sets of kids to cholera in seperate events. I'll try and find it.

Apocalyptic doommongering used to be my favorite past time, I was a witness once after all, but now I'm more rational without a doctrinal agenda to follow. People make up these scriptures and biblical predictions simply because they want the world to end but there is nothing divine behind it.

Seems like the apocalyptic doom mongering has'nt gone away, really. Many XJW's just find different rational for their neuroses. Same BS, different explanation.

Well, with their affiliations with the ALF, they're definitely not ethical. The ALF does stuff like release non-indiginous mink into the wild. Thank god that they all died by being run over, etc. If theyd bred and survived, they would have seriously effed up the local ecosystem.

What to do with left over memorial emblems

we have an italian cong that shares the hall with 2 english congs.

an elder from the italian cong makes the wine & bread every year for quite a few of the congs in melbourne.. after the last memorial is held in our hall, the wine is taken back to this elders house where certain privileged ones are invited back for some socialising and to drink a very nice drop of red wine!

as well as the usual assortment of cheese platters and crunchy bread.. we were privileged enough to be invited back a few years ago, but the whole idea didnt seem to sit well with me, so we took a raincheck and never got invited back again.

Crumble up the crackers and make matzo ball soup! I remember in the 1970's seeing my folks and their friends drinking the wine afterwards, freaking out ( i was 5) until it was explained that it had served it's purpose. Then they gave us some of the crackers w/ pb&j. Then my buddy and I went and played Evel Knievel.

WHO ARE THEY TO STOP HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS!?

i find this as a way for my wife trying to avoid going to church with me on easter.. my wife has a meeting with the elders about her reinstatement sunday after the wt study, which is indeed true.

however, the only reason why she would go to church with me on easter is because i went with her to the memorial.

she tries to bargain her way out with this by she should go to church with me on good friday instead on easter.
