To Blues: I am going to be controversial here in the hope of keeping the passion behind this thread alive... The problem with the WTBTS is that it is steeped in ANACHRONISTIC theology (everyone including me head for the Greek lexicon and English dictionary)

In simplistic terms, it takes the decision making of the era, out of context, to justify its stance.

It does it with the "two witness rule", Besty... It does it with the LAWS on Blood.

By its own words, it falls short of reasoning, eg: Blood, Medicine and the LAW of God...

There are COMMANDS, there are LAWS and there are PRINCIPLES.

Freddo, friend (?) do you not agree that Principles affect the Time and Context of Law? Read the Biblical context of the "Two witness" principle, read the Biblical context of "Abstain from Blood" and you will see the PRINICPLE behind the LAW.

None of this is listed in the Scriptures as A COMMAND.

In the case we are discussing, "Blues".. we have a classic example of the disenfranchized, disillusioned and the doubting calling for Justice and reform. If the WTBTS does not want to even receive this wake up call from those who once loved passionately.. then it will loose. It WILL end up labelled as a suburb of "Babylon the Great" and it will continue to wreck the lives of the "faithful" and the children that even David called an "inheritence". Now, Besty, please put your angst aside and start this forum reasoning.

Freddo.. you are obviously more familiar with local Geography than I am. Since I went quite frequently to Police HQ, attended their Federation dos and stayed over night in the Training Accommodation, I must have imagined that Burnham On Sea is only 15 miles down the road.

All I have imparted is what I know... UK law indeed does not allow double-indemnity. That is why I have not gone beyond local knowledge... am not privvy to the bundle and have directed folks to raise their enquiries with the appropriate sources. Ipso facto, you are correct and have established exactly what I have been saying. Thank you. The law is the law, and until there is some forum to reconsider this (that rests with the Home Secretary at this stage - does it not? Unless you know of any other higher authority in the UK).

No... Freddo I do not claim to know all about the case. Please read through this relatively short thread and you will appreciate that you have assumed incorrectly. Comments like Aquas' (what can we say that would comfort you, Aqua?) demonstate why such thorough research and heavy judgment (in my eyes).

At the time of the trial I owned a second business, "a pub grub PUB" within walking distance of the CROWN court in Bristol, Freddo. Burnham on Sea and Clevedon are two coastal towns within the catchment area of Bristol City. Those congregations suffered most from the attentions of Mr Porter, and Avon & Somerset / CPS are the Constabulary involved in bringing the action. London, where as far as it is known, Mr Porter has not offended is 130 miles away from the scene of his crimes.

The call for retrial continues amongst some of those most deeply affected. Though the media is silent at present, I doubt that (Mr Porter's sister especially) will let it rest there.

Our "West Country" regional TV and then National TV had the header stories for days.

The best way to file protest and urge review (in this particular case) is to lodge appeal to the prosecutor.. and as one other poster divulged the Home Secretary of the UK cabinet is already involved.

Let's hope the second hearing will clear up the tensions behind this case and perhaps it will result in a more just sentence in the eyes of those devestated by his vile acts!

Besty: I am talking about Jook, not Porter. The difficulty in communicating in black and white, is that people fail to read all the postings made.

I resent being goaded by you or Jamie, when I have simply pointed that the UK law has, currently drawn a line. We all agree with the public outcry in this area (Bristol UK) where Mr Porter perpetrated his crimes. The shout is loud for the case to be heard again.

If you want to promote Anarchy Besty that is up to you. I am only interested in Jook's welfare.

If you are not careful you will stir up a hornets nest. We have not read the bundles, we do not know the case in full.. we must wait for the UK legal system to hear this again and maybe overturn the decision of the presiding judge.

Can I remind you that in Portsmouth, UK a consultant Paediatrician was almost mobbed and beaten as a group of mothers took to the streets as they thought a "Pedo" was amongst them.

The law has judged Mr Porter in this matter.

I agree with your analysis in almost every way.. but I do take exception at your broad brush strokes.

So, I assume all the points of view expressed here will now be directed to the Avon & Somerset Police and the Bristol CPS to press for reform?

Rather than suggest that we flout (UK) law Cantleave, perhaps we should press for change. At the moment, Mr Porter is at liberty.. all the "Authorities" agree on the matter. Are you above them?

I don't know if JWRB still exists but there is a sterling example of a group of Elders pushing for Reform and change.

Besty and Jamie you are wrong. If Mr Porter IS an active paedophile, he has the "law" on his side, and goading him on as you are doing is sick in its own right, and putting him and his family in danger. WAIT for the change in the judgment and the rule of law. That is the way to achieve permanent change and force issues. And praise, even small changes for the good in the minority groups amongst our populations.

Besty.. I did not come here to challenge your basis for wanting a massive change in WT world. I came here out of concern for Jook'. You can bare as much bad news as you like. The facts remain.

This case was heard 3 years ago, Jook has only just picked up on it.

It all happened within a few miles of where I live and now it has landed fully on Jook's doorstep.

There is public outcry over the decision rendered by the presiding judge, and the case is subject to protracted judicial review.

To cross the "legal" line at this stage would endanger Jook'. "What if" is a big supposition. We have to await the judicial review, and show all due dilligence in handling these matters.

I am sure Bill Bowen and others like yourself are contacting Avon & Somerset Police and the Bristol CPS, as we speak to speed up the rule of law. Anything outside this is Anarchy.

Again, I stress, I agree, much must be changed systemically to change the WT mindset in these matters. Or, would you be found pushing others to cross the legal line?

Wait Besty, things are in motion.. all will come out of the woodwork.. and if you are wise enough to know the law.. put your case forward with Bill Bowen and see this through to resolution.

All that I am saying is wait... whether on Jehovah or not... I believe the Truth will come out and their will be much gnashing of teeth in one quarter or another. Stick up for Jook'... don't use him as a stool pigeon Besty.. he is not up to speed. He admitted that at the first posting.

Neither have I read it Besty... but instead of invoking Anarchy why not commend the actions of my Dad (of whom I am very proud) to turn this ship around.

This is an individual case, it is up for review.. maybe all the worms will be winkled out of the can. You should be supporting our mutual friend Jook'.. any antagonism at this point would be seen as a disruption of the law as defined here in the UK. Our personal opinions are off the wall here.. and tinkering with the law of this land is not the way to approach it.

Please contact the addresses I have provided... I sense that Bill Bowen will have done so anyway. An earthquake does need to go through Watchtower Land, as indeed it does in all sectors of Society. How many "secular" trained Elders are there to comment.. Is the WT Society working in the background to firm up its policy.

I repeat, the Elders were praised for their co-operation with the Secular Authorities.. lessons are being learned.. I hope the WT goes from strength to strength in reform in many areas. That is why I am sitting here, that is why I am chipping in with you ... and that is why I maintain it would be absolute folly at this stage for Jook' to cross the legal line... even if WE don't agree with it.

David: I am not here to argue the semantics of law in the UK. I have said just about all I can on my own position. I note that noone has picked up on the fact that my own Father has applied the training he has received as a result of all this fracass.

As UK law stands, and until the case is re-tried (please God that it happens), Mr Porter has paid the penalty imposed and was dained to have been contrite and turned his life around. He walked free.

I have expressed my own views about him as an individual, perhaps I should not have done. The facts is that as a result, systems HAVE been put in place and are being actioned.

I don't condemn every Catholic because of past action of a perverted minority, so why should I condemn all JW's because systems and procedures were not in place in that arena either? Furthermore, given that Mr Porter is temporarily "Off the Hook".. how many times do I have to restate that I fear for Jook and his family if the current "Due process of Law" is not respected, and his own compound anxiety bubbles over in some way.

This is a heartfelt plea, because this case, I believe is about to explode... big time.

I have provided in my last comment two addresses for folks to refer to. If Silentlambs wants to give a loud shout, why not bombard Avon & Somerset Police and the Bristol CPS, and the legal buffs that hold the bundle.

Watch that space.. and may the "Truth" come out.
