this is a common scripture, but i find it interesting that it is in direct conflict to jw belief.

john 2:19 says, "jesus answered them, "destroy this temple, and i will raise it again in three days.

" the jews replied, "it has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?

Curious isn't it designs... am I just not reading the obvious in the Scriptures? I am no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses for my own reasons. But when it comes to many fundamental Scriptural teachings I still agree wholeheartedly with what Jesus and the Apostles actually said.

Why should I believe or cower to Stephen's threats? The words of the Apostles on the subject is good enough for me.

Stephen.. I would remind you of your first cordial greeting and the incident of that ungracious man Davebrown... straight out of the the evil Evangelical bootcamp.. who attacked me unmercifully after the broadcasts of one of your fellow churchmen.

It was unjustified, unchristian and totally thoughtless.

Did Jesus resurrect Himself? NO... he did not. Please be gracious enough to comment on all the Scriptures your/my fellow posters have cited that prove that point of view. Jesus has a God and Father, the same one as You and I. That God and Father, resurrected Jesus from the dead.

Prove otherwise.

Yes, Think About It, I have seen Stephen do this many times. I am unsure what he is trying to say or do at times!

On the one hand I thank him for being the very first person to greet me on this board 6 months ago, on the other he remains detatched from strong discussion, throwing in Scripture that is best ambiguous if taken out of context - which he does constantly. (Podo - scratches his head here, somewhat perplexed)

Stephen the subject here is "Did Jesus resurrect Himself". The overwhelming testimony of the Scriptures presented tell us that HE DID NOT. His God, and Father did. Your final three offerings fail to prove otherwise.

May we have some comment from you on all the texts these studious Posters have added to the debate that State unequivocaly that Jesus was resurrectd by God, his and our Father?

May the Holy Spirit urge you to consider this request in a spirit of truth

Actually the wording of all those three texts do not prove your point, Stephen. Why do you choose to ignore all the rest of the Scriptures cited here.

A curious oversight on your part.. or simply blinkered doctrinal bias?

Brotherdan: What seems to be emerging from this discussion, is that Jehovah, our Father and that of Jesus Christ resurrected Jesus the man. Thereafter the power of the resurrection was entrusted to Jesus himself.

Not wishing to side track from the theme of the bodily resurrection I would respond to your comments on John 20:28 with the following:

Much is made of the exclamation by Doubting Thomas as though his words have some inspired credentials. There are, in fact, several views..

a) It is an exclamation in which Thomas refers to God;

b) Thomas addresses Messiah with legitimate designations - lord (master) god (Isaiah 9:6) or,

c) He refers to the Master Jesus and to the God of Jesus, the Father.

The other apostles have received the message throught Mary Magdelene "I have not yet ascended to.. My God and Your God.."

If Thomas addresses Jesus as god of a sort..that is with qualifications (as in John 1:1) - then clearly there appears to be Two gods - Christ and then his own God - the Father.

As for the nuances of difference in the Nominative and Vocative we do have a resident expert on the board... ISAACAUSTIN.

Perhaps Isaac' can shed further expert witness for us here, as this discussion is broad and intense and requires language buffs!

My level of knowledge rests with Latin. The use of the Vocative in Latin is a little less complex. I believe ISAACAUSTIN is a Koine Greek master.

If you represent someone brotherdan, you bear that person's name. "In the name of" does not mean you are that person. Please read Revelation 3 and the words to the church in Philadelphia. It refers clearly to Jesus bearing the name of Jehovah, just as the High Priests of Israel bore that name on the plates on their foreheads. It did not mean they were Jehovah himself.

I refer to John 20:28 which stumps any trinitarian argument. The Nominative here overrides any Vocative statement, lauding Jesus as being Jehovah himself.

Who says JW's deny the deity of Christ... he is "a" god.... not Almighty God. He is the representative of Almighty God and thus bears his name.

Equally, he was given total power over the resurrection after his death. (Read 1 Corinthians 15)

Brotherdan: Revelation 1 makes the position clear. He became the "First and the Last" in relation to the resurrection. I don't see the stumbling issue. He had taken another form and had "not yet ascended to his father".

As for Thomas' words... this is a language matter. Please do your research. These words are written in the NOMINATIVE and not the Vocative. Something I wrestles with for years. Thomas' address to Jesus was the same as other acknowledgments in Scripture to God's representatives. Usually Angels... these could hardly be Almighty God himself.. or could they, with your reasoning?

Matthew 27:51-53 makes an interesting read for the mentally inquisitive. If you read that in KJV English... you would think the Voodoo priests have a point.. Read it in the NWT. (Has WT endulged in free interpretation there.. or, in fact, do they have a strong and valid point there).

I find it hard to grasp that 2 thirds of a triad intervened... the trinity holds no water for me.

todays watchtower was especially nauseating but during the study one of them made the comment concerning the big a " jehovahs timetable is not contingent on all nations being saturated by the good news".

the study conductor reafirmed his point and then continued.. wait a fuggin minute!

there are 1.4 billion chinese on the earth and only 40 million profess christianity.

Can I ask you, and anyone else that could chip on this... Somewhere I recollect scriptures referring to a "third" of the earth.

I used to get depressed reaching to knock on another well bombarded door.. and wonder about the billions who haven't a clue about the "good news"

It made a little more sense to me if what the scriptures were saying, actually referred to the "third" of the earth that has received the "good news". The domain of CHRISTENDOM itself. Now if that is the case, the JW job is done!

The demise of Christendom and its Apostacy might be just the wake up call for the rest of the Earth...

just a thought...

Indeed I cannot get to grips with a loving God who would annihilate billions of innocent individuals. According to Scriptures, he would bring to ruin those "ruining" the earth... ramble.. ramble.. ramble

Yup... fornication is fornication. If that had been some over-sexed kid, they would have been given the boot by the congregation, if they did not confess and turn around.

I want to get baptized...but how and why should it happen?

...and not saying that i have to get baptized as a jehovah's witness.

i was an unbaptized publisher, but i had to step down because of some confessions i made to the elders about two years ago.

(yes, sexual confessions, i told them that i wasnt a virgin).

I have never understood religious grass hopping Joliette.. I do find the Baptist Union very divisive and there are constant squabbles between splinter groups. If that is Christ-like, then go ahead folks. My one and only trip to Alabama found two baptist ministers either side of the house I stayed in... heads of the local KKK. JW's by that standard aren't all that bad.

When I got baptised as a witness of Jehovah, there was a strong anti-labelling within the WT movement. I did all that I did.. because I truly believed I was bringing people to Christ.

Then the Marketing buffs moved in.. the total commercialisation became apparent. No longer vessels for honourable use.. they are for dishonourable use. In my way of thinking... p**s pots have their use.

Just be sure, to whom you belong Joliette... and you will do fine by your conscience and your god.
