i'm an unbaptised publisher, and until recently never missed a meeting, have been out "on the service" quite a lot.
i've been having difficulties with one of the jw's studying with me and something happened which was just unacceptable.
Perhaps that is why the cult of Athanasius had Arius murdered, godrulz?
I too like the analogy with smoking, Chariklo. I also like the quote, "Religion is the Opium of the People" by Karl Marx.
Don't be fooled by any religion, especially the so called "Evangelical" alliances who are just as divided and indoctrinated as the JW's they like to target.
Examine everything carefully.. but make your own way clear and strong. All the best.

As are the views of many faiths... especially the so called "Born Again" versions... I have seen some vicious comments here about JW's which are patently untrue.
I don't have a version of Truth Godrulz... just the suggestions I have already proferred.
Stop stirring up contentions and promoting sects Godrulz... remember that in the First Century, Christianity itself was viewed as a Sect and Apostate Judaism! That is why the French refer to La CULTE Catholique.

This general rule of thumb should be applied to all religions... beware too, of so called "Born Again" Christians here, who claim to know JW doctrine (frankly they lie most of the time) and also slam others who don't hold to their faith either!
The ancient Beroeans checked everything daily. I would encourage you to do the same... also you will get personality clashes anywhere you go.

Born a Cockney sparrah'... dragged up as an Essex boy... where we got "religion".. floated to Bethel via Halesowen in the West Midlands... returned home disillusioned and have set up business in Bristol... a spit from the Severn Valley and the Welsh Borders.
Venture over the border from time to time but am troubled by the "Sheep Worrying" in Wales.

my wife and i just visited some friends over the weekend from another congregation.
these two are both full time pioneers, and also participate in various construction projects around the country.
the husband just got back from a 3 week trip to walkill, new york to help with construction on a new residence building at 'the farm' (does anyone call it that anymore?)..
Times have changed.... when I did my 4 year stint.. I was shacked up with two other guys, and could hardly move in our room. Our food was found, and I clothed myself out of the charity bin. There were no recreational facilities other than a small sauna. On a stipend of £19.50 (approx $35) a month I could ill afford regular trips to the local swimming pool.
I guess the mentality has changed. We did it from the heart, and accepted the poverty it brought on most of us. Little did I know that there was an underlying resentment from some in the congregations.
In hind sight, and through my ministration to members of the British Royals... I can see the same pattern. A wonderful life style with no real input financially from the people benefitting. Closed orders in all faiths benefit the same.
Some, I found, benefitted more than others... sucked up to the Rich.. and an elite class emerged.
WT is no different... and "Lifers" at Bethel know no different either.... otherwise how would the great Printing empire ever continue, without selfless devotion on the part of a few?
Just a thought.

One assumes Jook... that someone in Forest Hill congregation would be able to confirm Mr Grants df/da from the congregation.. or is he repentant?
My pioneer school accommodation was within eye shot of the K.H... but I would not claim third party gossip as to the facts in this matter.
As I understand it Mr Grants wife is/was a JW (wife 1 or 2?) and he would bring her to meetings.
You live close to that area still. Do you have any up to date facts for us, Jook?

Think you may have your facts wrong "Slash"... his wife is a JW, she is severely disabled. Though he had associated, I think you will find that he never was a JW. Sorry, to steal your thunder.

I don't see why anyone needs alcohol and drugs to get "high" on life. Have you tried filling your lungs with "fresh" air and your blood stream with crystal clear water? Try it more often and give your life a real "hit", man.
I became a JW because I genuinely believed it to be the "Truth" as penned in God's word, I genuinely thought I was helping people along the path to Eternal Life in Christ Jesus, I genuinely wanted to reach out and help.
That desire remains with me. I took up a degree in a discipline allied to Medicine... and I help people. ... out of pain.
No, I am not an Atheist... and neither do I hold to any Religious denomination or faith sub set.
My faith as a JW taught me to have a one on one with my Creator and his only begotten Son. I do just that.. and it is helping me through the most difficult time.. the loss of my Mother.
My/Your/Her destiny is determined by one person alone....The Author of the Universe.

2 jdubs were at my door yesterday... so one of the questions i asked them and now i ask you is this.. why should i believe the bible is the gods word?
if i put on the table the book of mormon and the bible side by side what will be the criteria to decide which one is gods word?.
this is what the book of mormon says in 2 nephi 33:1.
3 Nephi 13 v 13 "For thine is the Kingdom the power and the glory, forever and ever Amen..." supposedly penned in AD 34 and recorded in B.O.M
Forward to 1611 (congratulations 500 years of the KJ Bible): "For thine is the Kingdom the power and the glory, forever and ever Amen"
The only two sacred texts in the world that contain those words.
Did Moroni really pen those words?? or, did the Author of the B.O.M simply plaigarize from the KJ Bible?
