Book of Mormon vs The Bible, which one should I choose?

2 Jdubs were at my door yesterday... so one of the questions I asked them and now I ask you is this.. Why should I believe the bible is the Gods word? If I put on the table the book of mormon and the bible side by side what will be the criteria to decide which one is Gods word?

This is what the book of mormon says in 2 Nephi 33:1

"And now I, Nephi, cannot write all the things which were taught among my people; neither am I a mighty in writing, like unto speaking; for when a man b speaketh by the power of the Holy Ghost the power of the Holy Ghost carrieth it unto the hearts of the children of men."

This is what the bible says in 2 Timothy 3:16

"All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right."

So how can I decide which one is the truth?

Don't forget the Quran, or is it Koran? Maybe Qu'ran or Qur'an? Anyway, first eliminate any book that allows it's advocates to make women lesser than men. What's left? None of the above.

If you really did this, what did the JW's say?

and all the other 'holy Books'

    Very good point

ok sorry but slightly off topic:

When 2 Timothy 3:16 was writen along with all the other 'Greek Scriptures', these were not scriptures at the time, so the writer could not have been referring to the Greek as being 'inspired by god' only the 'Hebrew' would have been.

The'Greek' only became scripture when a bunch of "Apostates" got together (a few centuries later) & decided to incorporate these into the bible, so I believe that one can't take any of the Greek as actually being the word of god.

If you woke up this morning and found that somehow overnight the whole population of the planet had become Muslim, including you, well, that would only mean that one half of the population (the females) would still be second class citizens.

Same is true if you woke up and everyone was a Christian.

If, on the other hand, you woke up and everyone was a secular humanist -- ahhhhhhhh.

Even to an athiest, the Bible has a little bit of historical value. There's no doubt that Rome existed and no doubt that Tiberius was an emporer of Rome. Egypt, Persia and Greece are still around today. You can see and sometimes even touch artifacts that were already ancient at the time of Christ.

The BOM is not a document comparable to the Bible. It describes an iron-age civilization on par with Greece or Rome at the height of their power and that civilization never existed. It is sheer fantasy.

You're assuming that every Muslim shares the same belief system. There can be many 'types' of Muslims, just like there are many versions of the Christian faith. I know a lovely Muslim lady who is very much into female empowerment.

OTWO: Their eyes went big. one of them said "i see what you are saying". The other wanted to leave.... they couldnt answer they switch the topic.

FSP: yeah I didnt even disputed the greek. All I did was to use their own reason to show that I could use that reason with everybook.

76: nah I think that many here are already sold on the bible.

TD: Sure it has some value, but the point is that to trust it as authority you need blind faith to believe everything is says..... but same with the BoM... so if all I need is faith, I could believe anything.
