I am also unaware of actual discrimination when it comes to jobs and such as well. But it is the opinion of some, even here, that such people should not hold those positions. Because of their faith. Not because of their abilities to perform their job.
Not quite acurate. The ability to do their job without prejudice. That is the concern.

Atheists are in the minority at the moment, and atheists who are prejudiced against people of faith are an even further minority. A minority does not often affect policies... not unless/until they are in a position of power or authority.
But as has been stated in this thread, prejudices are built upon teachings that LEAD to bias and prejudice.

hi all.... so my mom phoned me up this morning and said she needed to talk to me about something.
she asked me whether or not our (worldly) family thought that my husband and i were witnesses anymore.
one, someone in my family said to her, "i didn't know you guys wear short dresses like that" - commenting on a slightly above the knee dress i had worn to a family event.
There's a world full of wonderful kids (and adults) out there. To assume that the JW's are better than others is just a trap. Wholly untrue.

I can't relate to it at all, but I understand (to a point) where you are coming from.
First of all, if you truly believe the "truth" is the truth, then you should go back. If you don't, then nothing else matters, it's real life.
Second, I learned plenty of bad habits from the JW kids I knew. JW or anything else, it's about individuals and their families. I will tell you I never forgot reading a blurb from a Psychologist, who said she had never seen a more messed up bunch of individuals, than Jehovah's Witnesses. I have to agree. Also if you look at statistics, the retention rate is very low. In other words even if you go back, your son is unlikely to stay.
I have said a thousand times, my happiest thought in life is that my children never knew ONE day as JW's.
around the us, 6th graders (and alot of other grades) are preparing for this spring's standardized testing.
when "we" grew up, the standardized tests were straigh forward math problems.
the standardized math test is now only 16 questions long, but they are all long, drawn out word problems.
My beef is with the fact that the NCLB tests determine funding/staffing.
And if a kid can't pass that test, what is done to provide them with extra help and attention? That's not what the testing is for. If it were, I could see some value to it.

If it makes you feel any better Skeeter, I think the No Child Left Behind crap is just that. Crap. It's about making a ton of cash on testing, and passing the buck on actually trying to help our students succeed.
