I had a transfusion in Nov 2012. When I got to 7.5, they suggested I have a transfusion. I said what else can we do? It's weird, to be faced with the question after all these years of being free of JWism. When I got to 5 they said it was the only thing they could do. At that point I could no longer hold my husbands hand, or lift my head. If I hadn't felt so horrible, I would have felt nothing. Hard to explain. I said sure, whatever. I was the color of chalk. Within moments of beginning the transfusion, I began to feel better. I could literally see the color of my hands changing.
This is not a game. These people are like children, waiting for an "adult" to tell them what to do. Unfortunately that "adult" has ulterior motives.

less than 1/2 of them cannot identify the century when our civil war happened.. one in four thought columbus discovered america sometime after 1750.. one in three cannot name one right enumerated in the bill of rights.. three out of four cannot name the first us president.. two out of three do not know the length of term of a member of the house of representatives.. half cannot find britain on a map.. one out of four cannot find america on a map.. when my oldest daughter, who is now a physician was in 9th grade in this once-great state of california, i asked her about the three branches of our federal government.
she was clueless and told me she would take civics in her junior year in high school.

You want argument and thoughtful "anything"? You wouldn't know it if you saw it. You are ignorant sir.
Let's take my post for example, which you attempted to quote
beks,
You said:
:or the sake of argument however, Thomas Jefferson believed it was the job of the government to provide all with education. The better to preserve our democracy .
Where did Jefferson say that was the job of the GOVERNMENT, particularly the FEDERAL Government? And where did he EVER talk about a democracy in this Country? We don't live in a democracy, oh clueless one. We live in a Republic and despite my countless times at pointing that out you, you still just don't get the difference between the two.
Farkel
First please show me where I ever referred to the Federal Government?? Second, we live in a Representative Democracy, a type of Republic. But that is beside the point, because as you can see, I did not capitalize "democracy". I have to hope you know the difference. If not, just ask, I'll explain it.
After being presented with one (of many) indications of Jefferson’s opinion on public education, you blather this nonsense
Beks,
Nice Jefferson quote. Very Jeffersonian. Note that he wrote that long before we even had our Constitutional Republic and he wrote it for the Virginians. In that context it is idiotic not to agree with what he wrote. In fact, I fully embrace what he wrote.
Now tell me where he even implied that it was the job of a FEDERAL Government (which didn't even exist at the he wrote it) to provide the education for our children. Better yet, tell us all where the FEDERAL government now is or should be soverign over the States or local governments in providing our children with a good education. Just name the article and paragraph in the United States Constitution where they are granted that power, please.
You are yet again, simply arguing with yourself. Go for it, enjoy!
But your unwarranted rudeness by calling me "it" and "dog" along with your pointless rant against Wasblind, is weak, and quite frankly the epitome of pathetic. You are and have been for some time the rudest poster here. I must assume you are still here only because the administration pities you.

I'm about a third through Moby Dick, and absolutely loving it. I read this bit this morning, it brought tears to my eyes. It has been with me all day.
If, then, to meanest mariners, and renegades and castaways, I shall hereafter ascribe high qualities, though dark; weave around them tragic graces; if even the most mournful, perchance the most abased, among them all, shall at times lift himself to the exalted mounts; if I shall touch that workman's arm with some ethereal light; if I shall spread a rainbow over his disastrous set of sun; then against all mortal critics bear me out in it, thou just Spirit of Equality, which hast spread one royal mantle of humanity over all my kind! Bear me out in it, thou great democratic God! who didst not refuse to the swart convict, Bunyan, the pale, poetic pearl; Thou who didst clothe with doubly hammered leaves of finest gold, the stumped and paupered arm of old Cervantes; Thou who didst pick up Andrew Jackson from the pebbles; who didst hurl him upon a war-horse; who didst thunder him higher than a throne! Thou who, in all Thy mighty, earthly marchings, ever cullest Thy selectest champions from the kingly commoners; bear me out in it, O God!

Actually Lincoln and Einstein are both highly questionable additions to this list of "faithful". Einstein self identified as an agnostic, and Lincoln was a skeptic, not to mention a political figure with much to lose if not professing belief.
1. Most of the people you talk about come from time periods where a complete disbelief in God was much more difficult.
Exactly. I'm sure this study is concerning today's believers. With all the knowledge we have available to everyman................................

A Bill for the More General Diffusion of Knowledge
As part of his work in revising the laws of Virginia during the late 1770s and early 1780s, Thomas Jefferson put forth a bill that has become one of his most enduring works on the subject of education: Bill 79, "A Bill for the More General Diffusion of Knowledge." Its oft-quoted preamble reads as follows:
Whereas it appeareth that however certain forms of government are better calculated than others to protect individuals in the free exercise of their natural rights, and are at the same time themselves better guarded against degeneracy, yet experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms, those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny; and it is believed that the most effectual means of preventing this would be, to illuminate, as far as practicable, the minds of the people at large, and more especially to give them knowledge of those facts, which history exhibiteth, that, possessed thereby of the experience of other ages and countries, they may be enabled to know ambition under all its shapes, and prompt to exert their natural powers to defeat its purposes; And whereas it is generally true that that people will be happiest whose laws are best, and are best administered, and that laws will be wisely formed, and honestly administered, in proportion as those who form and administer them are wise and honest; whence it becomes expedient for promoting the publick happiness that those person, whom nature hath endowed with genius and virtue, should be rendered by liberal education worthy to receive, and able to guard the sacred deposit of the rights and liberties of their fellow citizens, and that they should be called to that charge without regard to wealth, birth or other accidental condition or circumstance; but the indigence of the greater number disabling them from so educating, at their own expence, those of their children whom nature hath fitly formed and disposed to become useful instruments for the public, it is better that such should be sought for and educated at the common expence of all, than that the happiness of all should be confided to the weak or wicked:...[1]
The Bill was presented in the House of Delegates in 1778 and 1780, but was not passed; James Madison presented the bill several more times to the state legislature while Jefferson was serving in Paris as Minister to France. A much-revised version was finally passed into law in 1796 as an "Act to Establish Public Schools."[2]

It IS NOT THE JOB OF THE GOVERNMENT TO PROVIDE YOUR KIDS WITH EDUCATION.
Socialised education is as bad for democracy as socialised medicine.
Teach your own kids, if you cannot afford to pay a GOOD teacher. Same with a doctor - you cant pay one: that is NOT the Governments problem.
I suspect you are being sarcastic, having misjudged your comments before.
For the sake of argument however, Thomas Jefferson believed it was the job of the government to provide all with education. The better to preserve our democracy.
