  This convention talk offended me

  here are my notes from the r.c yesterday, the talk called "jehovah – the greatest example of endurance".

  many of you will understand why i found it offensive.. jehovah has taken the hard option of choosing to endure:.

  reproach to his holy name.

  JWs shunning other active JWs

  how many others have noticed how common it is for active jws to ostracize and shun other active jws?

  as far back as i can recall, jws have had an ongoing problem with cliques within congregations, and special needs talks would be given from time to time to address that trend.

  but, it seems to me that the practice has become even more pronounced with entire congregations actively shunning other congregations.

  there was a part about pine trees in california mountains at regional convention.

  the brother/organization lied about how old they are.

  he said oldest tree is 4200 years old when it is actually 5000 years old.

  the longer you are out the more you see how a cult steals all your time, resources and energy.

  we wasted so much because we were witnesses!

  I don't look at it as wasted time. Yes I used up a lot of time in the past as a jw but I would have used the time anyway.

  Because of my jw upbringing I

  don't smoke cigarettes

  have developed a solid work ethic

  have the ability to deal with the public

  This can be argued that if I wasn't a jw I might be doing these things anyway. That is true. No one can choose where they are born or what their religious upbringing is.

  didn't attend university thus not earning a degree( in my case it doesn't matter because my trade is so specialized they don't teach it in trade schools thus there is a shortage of qualified people in my field driving up wages much higher than most university graduates earn . If that matters anyway . You have to love what you are doing the money is secondary)

  never dated anyone other than my wife( been married 30 years!)

  never experimented with drugs until later in life(mj is not what they say it is so I didn't miss out on much )

  Did I waste time as a jw? Yup

  Would I have wasted time as a non jw? yup

  Does it matter and does anyone care? Nope

  The old "Book Study Group"

  in the june 2004 kingdom ministry, the self-appointed "faithful slave" published this spiritual exhortation as a q&a item - "the congregation book study—why we need it.

  three years later, in 2007 - in the august kingdom ministry - the same "slave" issued this reminder - "how the congregation book study arrangement helps us.

  but surprise, surprise - within a few short months the "slave" decided that jehovah had had a change of heart, and now decided that the book study in homes - with all of its alleged benefits - was superfluous: .

  Without the book study they can have more congregations per Kingdom Hall and sell off the excess halls.

  Meeting attendance for elders

  what is the minimum meeting attendace for someone, who is of good health, has not children doesn't work in a job that requires travel and lives about 3 miles from the kh?

  is 50% for clam and 75% for watchtower acceptable?.

  One thing is certain. At the circuit overseers visit ALL elders, ministerial servants, pioneers and their wives will be at least 1/2 hour early and be on their best behaviour.

  5000 years doesn't work too well with Noah's flood story so they have to alter history

  one of my children got disfellowshipped recently.

  i was worried about that some of my jw friends and jw relatives would mention it to me and it would make for awkward conversation as i am glad that he is out.

  i went to a jw family gathering.

  I went to a jw family gathering. Nothing. Nothing. No mention of even his name

  It is like this person has never existed.
