  having been to university and a jw..it made me think about their logic....... "jehovah's witness congregations are notorious for bad behavioralcohol abuse, immorality, cheating, domestic abuse, child abuse and the list goes on.

  Funny story about dumb JW rules

  some years ago (the year when i got baptized), i was at a district convention (or whatever they call them these days) with my best friend.

  he had a part in one of those acting parts at the convention (i have no idea the term jw's use for them in english).

  anyway, we were both seeing through the bullshit of the borg but weren't aware at the time of this forum or other "apostate" groups, nor of the full extent of the perversity of this religion.

  one of the elders was missing his service bag and suspected that one of the publishers stole it.

  he was determined to root out who did it so he decided to give a local needs part on the ten commandments focusing on you must not steal.. he enlisted the help of a trusted ministerial servant and got him to stand at the back of the kingdom hall during the part.

  he told the ms that he would read off the ten commandments and when he got to the one "you must not steal" he would pause longer than usual and see if anyone acted nervous or suspicious.

  Your body of elders - were they liberal, conservative or moderate?

  in my first kingdom hall, the elders were ultra conservative.

  our presiding overseer used to be a zone overseer.

  the second hall i was in was moderate.

  I just came from a congregation with a hard assed elder body. One alpha male who needs to prove something I guess. The other elders fall in line to his demands and life was hell in that congregation. Despite this I was still able to make progress in my fade.

  The elders where I am at now seem to be more laid back, so far.

  2 of them are very weathy and never seem to be around always going on vacation. Another elder misses a lot of meetings for work and that seems to be ok.

  So my missing meetings shouldn't be an issue.

  I think my parents probably have this. I should see if they'll let me have it or give it to me in their will. They weren't supposed to grow old but they are.

  the borg seem to prepare for changes by missing explanations out for a while then presenting a "new understanding" which doesn't contradict the most recent discussion.check out the most recent references to gog - no identification as satan.. in today's wt study, paragraph 15 concerning benefitting from the prodigal son stated "if we meet a person who has strayed from the congregation, will we offer loving and practical help to assist him to return?

  " there is no footnote or other qualifier saying not to go to disfellowshipped ones (who are definitely the ones being talked about) which is still the official policy.

  i know this isn't an ending to shunning, but it may signal the start of the preparation for a change.

  Shunning is evidence of the herd mentality of jehovahs witnesses. Anyone who dares to think or act differently which threatens the hierarchy of the Jehovah's Witness herd is ostracized.

  old school witnesses thrived on the fact they were different and persecuted for it.

  it was a point of pride.. i think the whole witness experience is much more social based for younger and newer witnesses.

  that may be why so many newer ones that come to this board cannot understand or accept some of the information we present here about how things "used to be".

  last night we had one of those meeting where i had a hard time keeping my eyes from rolling.

  i tell you, sometimes i think they have a mind of their own, my eyes that is.

  What book are we doing now in the book er I mean bible study?

  I have been to probably 4 or 5 mid week meetings in the last year and a half. Quitting the theocratic ministry school was the first step. They don't even miss me anymore.
