I've seen that commercial. Cute.
When I was married, that would've been known as a 'No-Win' situation.

there was a commercial on tv tonight during a football game... .
a couple with their backs to the camera were sitting on a beach facing a crystal blue sea.
soft, tropical breezes blew, seabirds called to one another, gentle waves crashed onto a pristine golden shore.
I've seen that commercial. Cute.
When I was married, that would've been known as a 'No-Win' situation.

well at 34 years of age i'm still wondering what i'm going to do with my life, career-wise.. i have done well in college courses i've taken in math, computer programming, and logic.
also i have a fair amount of experience working as an end-user of various database programs used by my previous and current employers, and i have found that i have a good intuitive knack for understanding the underlying logic that makes them do what they do.
so, i think that i have the mental goods necessary to be a good computer programmer, in fact i feel that i could be a pretty damn good one.. but, with all the out-sourcing, i'm wondering if american computer programmers are a dying breed that will eventually be completely supplanted by indian, chinese, and russian programmers.. so to those of you americans who currently work in the field, do you think that it is foolish to pursue a degree in computer science, given current trends?
Programming is an avenue to pursue... don't worry about _all_ programming being 'out-sourced'... but you should worry about being a really good programmer.
It's one thing to be a 'user' and quite another to be a 'good programmer'.
If you want to learn to be a programmer - I would suggest Visual Basic (VB)... or even Visual C++. I learned VB - and can do fairly well at it - with not much education other than a 'beginners' course at a local 2-year college. I still consider myself a 'hacker' when it comes to writing code, however.
If you _do_ get into programming - I recommend specializing. Don't do what everyone else is doing. That way - you will have a 'niche' market that you are programming for, and won't have to worry about it going overseas.
Develop proprietary routines - Perhaps a unique way of sorting data. - and do NOT share them.

i'm sure 99% of you know this already, but i'm warning whoever visits here and doesn't know.. .
if any of you still read god's word, i ask you to read eze.
33:11 & prov.
Oh no! An 'apostate' site? *Looks around paranoid*
I never knew!
So... if you're 'warning' us... that means you're _not_ an apostate? *scoots further away*
Pssst! Sunny! What's an 'apostate'? Is that anything like 'cooties'?

i had no idea there were so many ex jw's.
i have been out since 1998. officially booted in feb. 2001. i am not sure on what grounds though because i never went to my meeting.
all i heard is that accusations had been made.
With family, it's difficult to say 'No.'
I think that if you decide to let them stay - there need to be some 'ground rules' that they are willing to abide by.
Things like -
1) No WTBTS literature shall be seen lying about.
2) Thou shalt not 'witness' - or give 'personal experiences' of door-knocking
3) No "I wish you'd come back"... intended to put you on a 'guilt trip' - and make them feel better
...things like this.
After all... if you don't smoke - you would expect a smoker to respect your 'no smoking' policy' in your home or car, etc.
Just use common sense - you'll be fine.
I hope your family _is_ trying to find a 'way out' or trying to re-connect with family - but it's more likely that they are just trying to find in-expensive lodging.

hehe, how i hated saturday morings!.
hello all, i'm new to the forum!.
first of all, i would like to apologise to anyone who had the misfortune of opening their door early on a saturday morning to me preaching the good news!
"...I left a Mag at the laundry mat on my way to work and counted my 45 minute drive as time you do that a few times a month no need to go out in service."
So that explains all of the magazines at the local laundromat here!

i felt it hypocritical to take a turkey abviously meant for thanksgiving.
i didn't like buying the easter candy after easter either as it was "food sacrificed to idols".. years ago at a place i worked they gave out a xmas bonus which i returned.
( a few hundred dollars which we sure could have used) they assured me that it was an "end of the year" bonus.
I remember my first 'real' job that had benefits.
The first year - in November - they gave all the employees a Gift Certificate (good at a local grocery store) at Thanksgiving - along with the regular paycheck - for something like $10 or $15.
You better believe I used it! I remember that it was just enough to buy that 25lb. of dog food I needed (for my doggie - not me) - along with one or two other items I needed - to survive.
I think I was a 'fringe' JW - and such things didn't bother my 'conscience' like it did others.
I also took off on the holidays that were given to all the employees.
After all... if you're gonna go down this road... you may as well say that if a JW doesn't celebrate Christmas - or T-Day - etc. they should report to work on these days (if they aren't on a Saturday or Sunday). *wide grin*

everyone that is in the process of leaving dreads the thought of having the elders approach them, call them, etc.
the fact is----just because they say they want to meet with you or just because 2 elders stop by to visit you----you don't have to deal with them at all.
simply tell them you won't meet with them, you won't talk to them.
minimus said - They simply won't allow a lawyer to be present.
It doesn't matter. I don't have a lawyer. They don't know that, though. The point to telling them you want your lawyer present is that it is going to be 'legal' proceedings that are going to be going on, and you want your legal representative there.
frankliespeakin said - I wholly recomend the lawyer thingy I think the WT doesn't want anymore lawsuits than it already has to deal with. Even if you really don't have a lawyer bluff them.
Exactly! That's the point. They don't want lawyers around when they hold 'kangaroo-court' - and I'll bet they would back down really quick if you tossed in a "...and I'll bring legal proceedings against anyone who slanders my name in my absense (aka disfellowshipping)".
The point is - come at 'em full-force... not in a wimpy... "ohhh... I guess this means I'll be reproved... or disfellowshipped" (At this point you shouldn't care anymore, anyway).
Then just listen to their footsteps fade into the distance as they trip over themselves fleeing.

Yup. This is true.
Or... if they insist - tell them you will - and you will be bringing along a lawyer to sit in on the discussion.
(Hint: They'll get real nervous and say, "It's okay... it wasn't really _that_ important.")

been going through a lot lately.
feeling the depression creeping in every once in awhile.
who here likes to pound back a few beers???
I don't like beer... but wine or hard liquor is pretty good.
Tequilla... a few shots of that, and I'm feeling pretty good. (You hafta buy the more expensive stuff so as to not get a headache the next morning)
A friend turned me on to tequilla... and also introduced me to Scotch and water.
Of course... I ain't any good fer driving after - so usually only drink at home.
Alcohol and depression don't mix.
