Hence, imperfect. Lots of people slip through the cracks.
It's perfect for the people it lures and imperfect for the people it doesn't. The ones caught have their free will impinged upon because they were secretly emotionally lured rather than openly rationally enticed. The Watchtower tailors their message to suit the needs of the believer in turmoil. The people they DO convert with their methods are rendered unable to escape. They seek out the emotionally vulnerable and fill their void with an artificial support system for just enough time to convert them into a drone. Eventually the honeymoon phase ends and they are working hard for the mother organization along with the people who converted them.
You mean like Waco? Sure, like that will work. I am glad we have a government that does not infiltrate religions looking for reasons to shut them down.
No guns, I am talking about actually going through their system and getting baptized. Just secretly record the whole process and report back after 6 months. That would be all the evidence you need to convict the organization of defrauding their membership with mental coercion. Are you saying they ARE a religion? Because they certainly are NOT.

sabastious, I am very respectful of the work of Steve Hassan, and I do believe the WTS controls its members through various mind tricks (cognitive dissonance, circular reasoning, phobias). However, the mind "control" is imperfect. There are potential "converts" who will see through the manipulation and never join. There are born-in children who will never buy in. Members can experience a rude shock or an awakening and leave.
Mind control works on anybody if applied correctly and in the right circumstance. The only reason why WT mind control fails is because they are working with a system that involves the masses. If you take a single person and put them into a cell you can mind control them no matter how strong their will is. You only need to find the right combination of tactics and methods. Everybody has psychology that can be used against them, the trick is finding what works. When dealing with the masses you are going to have many slip by because the method isn't specifically tailored to their weaknesses, but to what works with the masses.
Believing one will "die" if one leaves is imaginary, even if it is "mind controlled".
It's not imaginary within the mind of the subject. It's as real as anything else and because it's such a fearful idea, it's actually MORE real than most everything else.
It would take much more than a "simple investigation" to prove the WTS dangerous. The russians failed to do so. I am simply explaining how the judicial system views religions. They simply do not care to involve themselves in the internal belief systems.
All you'd have to do is put few government agents through their system and report back. It wouldn't be hard at all. The Russians lost the cold war and freely elect dictators, they don't know what they are doing.

The expunged member is under no obligation to accept an imaginary punishment.
It's not imaginary when you are mind controlled. The users of this site have corroborated evidence that leaving the WT ideas behind takes years of deprogramming and personal growth. It's not like disfellowshipped people have a support system they can turn to. They must start from scratch and the process is so vigorous that some would rather commit suicide than endure through it. This forum even had a recent suicide because of a brutal disfellowshipping after receiving a blood transfusion while unconscious. I don't understand how anyone could take an objective look at the disfellowshipping process and simply call it being kicked out of a club. It's so much more than that and all it takes is a simple investigation to confirm that.

Absolutely. They are impinging upon the right to assembly and freedom of association.
Defamation has to involve a false statement.
It is a false statement because what's actually happening is a disfellowshipping. The rank and file still use the term DF'ed internally because there is no difference. The only thing that changed was the wordage used for the public announcement. It's completely dishonest. They don't tear up your publisher card, that stays on file.

apparently, this was because a previous forum that was setup was either owned by or later handed over to someone who used it to collect personal information about people which was then used to harrass them.
i don't know all the details, i'm just paraphrasing what i've heard and recognize that it's a concern to some people.. i want to first of all put people's minds at rest: i've been running this site for what will be 13 years next month.
