@Zid - I think the concept of the Adam and Eve story is indeed ancient. But the actual evolved story we have today is not.

The Story of Adam and Eve, Sexist, Egotistical and Guilt-Inducing
by sabastious input yourself in the mind of an ignorant early human.
he can speak, he can understand his surroundings and can even chart the stars in the night sky.. .
one other thing this man can understand is injustice: when bad things happen to people who didnt do anything to deserve them.. .

What year Did you Stop Attending Meetings - How Long were you a JW ?
by flipper ini'm trying to compare some statistics and figures on this to share later in the thread to see if more long-time witnesses are exiting- or are newer witnesses exiting after a shorter period of time.
and - are more people exiting in the last 10 to 15 years than before.
so your answers would be helpful in looking into this .

Was raised a witness, was baptised at age 19 in 2003 left in 2009. So I guess that is 5 years a baptised witness.

Allegory, people.
I don't think it is completely allegorical. I believe the story was originally human history as has had allegorical elements added after the fact. This is pure speculation and a hunch.

In the first place, the primary sinner was held to be Adam, not Eve. Eve was deceived; Adam was at fault because he knew better. St. Paul blames Adam (Romans 5:12), not Eve.
Eve was cursed twice over. First the human curse of death AND the female curse of painful birth pangs and such.
I find it quite odd that you use Romans to make a point about the Genesis account.

Put yourself in the mind of an ignorant early human. He can speak, he can understand his surroundings and can even chart the stars in the night sky.
One other thing this man can understand is injustice: When bad things happen to people who didn’t do anything to deserve them.
How does this man reconcile these things in his mind? I believe that the story of Adam and Eve was written to solve this mystery.
Why do fires come and burn down his huts? Why do animals come and kill his young? Why did his son get sick and die?
We, as humans, have a need to explain rationally why these things occur. One explanation is that we DID something to deserve these atrocities, and it must have been something bad.
Enter the story of Adam and Eve, a story of why bad things happen to good people. Sin. A fairly straight forward and juvenile understanding of the concept of Justice.
Why do woman have such a seemingly harder existence than men? They have pain in their abdomen and bleed for 1 week out of each moth. They have to endure massive pain and sometimes death during childbirth.
The story of Adam and Eve explains why this is so. But it also has a side effect, it also justifies why men can dominate females.
This story was written by a man and is for MEN. It perfectly explains why bad things happen to humans, a curse, and why even worse things befall woman, an even worse curse.
Now we must apologize for living, and as men get to treat woman for the lesser humans that they are and the accursed.

Why is it so hard for Ex-JWs to make that "final step" and give up Christianity?
by sabastious ini'm not sure if it's just denial on a lot of people's part, but the reason the jws doctrine is so wacky and controlling is because they are among the few religions that really try to follow the bible!.
the bible is the culprit here in actuality, but even after someone has "wizened up" to the misguided teachings of jehovah's witnesses they still hold the bible as inspired word of god.. why don't you believe that the governing body was chosen as the faithful and discreet slave in 1918?
because the only real evidence to that fact is that they say so.

In all situations my prayers were answered.
So you are saying that all people who pray to God get their prayers answered? Could a science experiment prove this? Does just praying to Jehovah reep answers?

Zeitgeist, just nonsense? Please explain.
by cyberjesus ini recently watched the movie along with the second part thanks to several people mentioning it on this forum.
i have seen both people against and pro.
what are your thoughts?

Really? I had no idea Jesus was born on December 25th, nor did I know he was visited by three kings.
Exactly, fairly right on. The basic concept that the story of Jesus is made up is right on, but they did get some facts wrong.

The Jesus stuff is fairly right on. The story of Jesus and Moses are rehashed from pagen sources.

Do you atheists resent the believers on here and do you believers resent the atheists?
by Lozhasleft ini'm wondering how people feel about us exjws either becoming atheists or continuing on with a faith in god?.
do you get angry or frustrated at the opposing view?.
i'm new but i've seen different reactions to both on here...as for me i am happy to live and let live nowadays...its ok with me whatever people want to choose for themselves..... personally i still have enormous faith and love for god....if the jws couldnt destroy it i dont think much else could...?.

This is complex subject really. There seems to be a fine line between Religious Freedom and Religious Oppression.
Some think they are just exercising religious freedom while others feel that they are using a form of religious oppression.
So, how does one know the difference?
I don't think we know that answer fully yet.

by dgp inif the wage of sin is death, how come trees die, too?.

As to why plants die in the seeminly same manner as we do, most Jehovah's Witness will say that we don't. They will go into 'proof' that our bodies were designed to live forever and talk about the evidence pointing to the brain having limitless capacity.
That leads me to the question of can the same thing be said for plants and animals? Could there be a case that they should keep growing forever?
