  At a 2 day assembly ...the point that the brother spoke about that drove me mad....."don't hug your husband, wife or child during prayer".

  i attended one day of a two day assembly and did ok until the very last talk.

  the brother was from bethal and well jw's pay closer attention to their talks, cause that is when some new info is given,,,right.

  well anyways i lost focus and began to daydream, cause it became one of those talks that just talks about wasting time.

  Hmmm, don't stumble people eh?

  What about the people who were forced to allow a loved one to die from a lack of organ transplant only to find out that it become a conscience matter?

  What about the people who's relationships suffered or even broke over the GB banning oral sex within the marriage? Only to find the ban eventually lifted and deemed "unscriptural."

  Would things like THAT be considered stumbling?

  I must quote this scripture:

  How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, allow me to extract the straw that is in your eye,’ while you yourself are not looking at the rafter in that eye of yours? Hypocrite! First extract the rafter from your own eye, and then you will see clearly how to extract the straw that is in your brother’s eye.

  i'm going to make a statement that is simple and direct and i want to ask you if you agree.. before i make the statement i want to give an analogous example so that you can quickly understand my intention.. .

  when we decided to put 3 of our children in the finest school possible we turned to private schools with the best reputation.

  Governing Body/FDS Question

  jw's say that all the anointed are members of, or make up, the faith and discreet slave ("fds").

  and they say that from among them a little group form the governing body.

  can you help out here in a bit of understanding?

  The WT states that there has always been a FDS class since the death of Jesus. They have absolutely no facts to support this claim. They can't even figure out who had the title before Charles T Russell.

  There obviously was a need because the old teachings were being corrupted and used incorrectly, so Jesus came amongst us to set us straight.

  Christianity is a train wreck. Sorry to say it :(

  I wonder how many Christian's openly admit their Holy Handbook to be a collection of cultural stories and legends (not to mention admit that Moses didn't write some of the books). The damn book says it's perfect and inspired by God, the Bible, like the WT is a house of cards. If it contains anything false then it has to be thrown in the dumpster because it says that it doesn't.

  What I see are human brains reconciling errors in the Bible to have "meaning" instead of invalidating the Religion. I understand, it's the way it has to be.

  As Paul mentiones a few times, IF the scribes and such of the OT and Old Covenant had got it "right", there would have been no need for Jesus to come down or for a New Covenant.

  Did leaving the WT build greater appreciation for or kill your reading of the Bible?

  i am really on the fence on this issue right now and would love some opinions.. i find that i dont sit down and read the bible for long periods since becoming inactive, but on the other hand, individual scriptures mean much more to me now.. i will sit down and look up some favorite passages from time to time and feel like its the first time i really "got it" - without the jw goggles on.

  i love matthew chapter 23, since i think it describes to a tee the situation in jw congregations.

  i think if jesus returned today, he would blast the elders and "leaders" of the borg in a similar fashion (along with most religious leaders) .matthew 24 is actually more interesting to me now, simply because my whole life was waiting for the 1914 generation to end sometime during the reagan era!

  What kind of Witness were you?

  there always seemed to be some witnesses who seemed to be in it for the social aspect of it.

  the ones who planned most of the gatherings and trips.

  and the ones who got invited to the parties two states away.

  I was like a bunch of different witnesses at different points in my life.

  Age 13: Doing impromptou number 4's and giving "quality comments"

  Age 15: Had a wordly girlfriend and wanted nothing to do with the Orginization

  Age 17: Saw the light of my bad ways and starting going out in service a lot, started dating a girl in "the truth"

  Age 22: Swore off anything and everything to do with JW faith, told my whole family. That witness girl is now my wife and isn't a witness anymore as well

  What makes an apostate...

  an apostate for witnesses?.

  i only ask because we have had several conversations with family members who want to make sure we have not become "apostates".

  a rumor has been going around that we have become, sign carrying, picketing kh's attending, leaflet printing apostates.

  The insight book has a section on apostacy and defines it pretty specifically. I'm not on a comp with my WT Library, but I remember reading something along the lines of this:

  Anyone who heeds false teachings is considered an Apostate.

  Heeding something merely means giving strong consideration to it. So if you give strong consideration to any teaching that opposes to the WT then you are a bonified JW Apostate.

  Funny thing is, how does one know what a false teaching is if they don't give consideration to it and check it for validity?

  Catch 22 anyone?

  Very Accurate and Creative (Not)

  you must have been given the example below in your dealings with jws and blood.

  at least i have been told the same stupid thing over and over again by every jw, i've had any discussion on the topic with and by any speaker on the platform when it came to the "abstaining" from blood.. here it goes: "if your doctor told you to abstain from alcohol and you had it injected in your veins, didi you really follow your doctor's advice?

  (a self -righteous "i gotcha now" look follows....).

  I love the out of context "Abstain from blood" line.

  Why ever read any research article when you can just take one sentence out of context and understand the whole paper right?

  The first question I ask when someone vomits this line on me is "Before we create a doctrine off this scripture, who was Paul talking to, and what did he mean to THEM? He wasn't talking about blood transfusions was he?"

  ENTER THE ALCHOHOL ANAOLOGY.

  First off, there are no situations where injecting beer into your viens is the only means of saving your life, way to trivialize a serious f'ing matter WT!

  Second, like you have said it is a completely different scientific process when injecting blood and ingesting blood, so the anaology is logically fallacious.

  Mr Watchtower: You ARE the weakest link. Goodbye.
