so, i recently finished reading "the god delusion" by richard dawkins.
i read it with a certain amount of hesitation.
after all, i am still recovering from my disappointment at realizing that the wts is not god's organization.

My disappointment lies in the fact that Dawkins fails to engage with and analyse the best arguments that are proposed for belief in God.
I think it's important to figure out what people are referring to when they use the title "God."
God can simply mean the First Cause, or simply the Creator of humankind.
You also have to figure out, when a person is referring to God, if they are talking about a proactive God, one that has an ultimate purpose for mankind.
I think people like Dawkins, when he refers to God, he is talking about a very specific God and not merely the creator of humanity and the earth. He is, indirectly, talking about THE God, the creator of the universe of which has a solidified plan for everything.
I know he doesn't really say that, but I think that's his mindset.

My response was sincere. I wasn't poking fun at LWT, just commenting on what I saw in the Dawkins response.
I was referring to Dawkins not LWT.

look what i found.. what is so misapplied with these scriptures??.
.
.
Gee, why isn't Proverbs 4:18 on the list? ;)
Because if it is, they'll use Proverbs 4:18 to explain why it was misapplied.

Thanks for posting LWT, Dawkins digs an even deeper hole for himself!
You're not usually one to poke fun at anyone.
Uncharacteristic post? Or do you usually laugh at the expense of other people's hard work?

For example, what if there was a doctor that was guilty of killing many of his elderly patients> Could we argue, then, that conventional medicine is dangerous and so should be avoided? The conclusion just doesn't follow from the example...
Most doctors don't kill their patients on purpose.
Most religions exploit their members on purpose.

i think we do, we need to cut out the crap and leave the good stuff.. things to cut:.
gay people deserve death.
flood story.
But if we cut all this stuff all that would be left is enough text to fill a Post-It. "In the beginning...the end."

If you don't like the Bible, ignoring it is always an option.
I do like the Bible, and truthfully I don't think any of it is evil by nature. But the misuse of it makes me want to abridge it!

If you can't stomach a paraphrased edition, how on earth are you to tolerate an abridged one?
Imagine, a world where no one knows who Adam and Eve were, no one debates over whether the Great Flood actually happened or not.
A beautiful vision indeed!

i am currently just sick with grief.
i can't believe this is happening to me.
all the jokes i've made about me never "falling out of the truth" and self confidence about my spirituality.
GrandmaJones,
Speaking from experience it would be best to find a non-witness to confide in, I would suggest someone you know, but someone from JWN would suffice.
Witnesses can and will be over-emotional and might "turn you in" for apostasy because they genuninely think you are sick and getting you to the "spiritual doctors" will make you better.
It is a grave error on their part, so you gotta be careful.
That being said, do not think your life is over or had no meaning. All life is precious, and yours is no different.
You still have so much life to live and you wont believe how the air smells once you lift your head (and eventually exit) from the WT shoebox.
