  you ever remember poking fun about other religions with your jw associates?.

  i do.. now that i am out i find it funny and very ironic that i made fun of such "absurd" beliefs.. here is a list of the top of my head that i used to believe:.

  1. that 144,000 people will taken from the earth at random and appointed a immortal kings and priests in heaven.

  Had a wicked fall this morning

  omg i got up and tripped over some cases i had on the floor.

  i landed on my forehead, left knee and left fist.. my glasses moved up and dug into my forehead so i have some pretty interesting marks there.. i have a doctor who lives two doors down from me and he came over and checked me out.. i didn't lose consciousness or have other signs of concussion.

  no broken bones.. but i am sore all over.. my doctor friend said if i have any problems to call him.

  I do.

  Now that I am out I find it funny and very ironic that I made fun of such "absurd" beliefs.

  Here is a list of the top of my head that I used to believe:

  1. That 144,000 people will taken from the earth at random and appointed a immortal kings and priests in heaven. They will be the only entities besides Jesus and Jehovah that are truely immortal: meaning that do not need God's spirit for sustenance.

  2. That an invisible angellic rebellion is here on earth to stop me from accomplishing the will of God. They control ALL major world powers and the media. They can implant dirty thoughts into my head (like when I get a craving to watch porn) and can stowaway into my house, even if I am very spiritual, in inanimate objects such as a virgin mary statue or a Metallica CD. Just uttering the name of God will repel these forces immediately.

  3. That when Jesus was referring to his Second Coming it would come 1900 years after he said it and that it would be an "invisible" presence.

  4. That taking a blood transusion on purpose would result in my name being taken out of the Book of Life.

  5. That an actual book existed of the names that were written in it would be granted everlasting life.

  6. That all suffering on earth was a result of the first man disobeying God's fruit eating rules.

  Any more?

  in my anger as an ex witness about 4 years ago i really wished that this would happen.

  although the glaring errors, hypocrisy & downright badness of the wts was finally evident to me personally, others whom i had expeced to eventually leave the org have not.. i think it dawned on me around 1 or 2 years ago that my wife will never leave the witnesses.

  having presented in both heated & reasonable debate every kind of logical argument against the religions teachings the conversations would get to the point where she would simply refuse to answer my questions.

  Actually the Catholic church is a brilliant example.

  The WT doesn't have a ten-thousandth of the influence that the Catholic Church has and had. The only way the CC didn't disband is they had their fingers in every system of goverment that mattered, and not to mention unlimited (literally) funds.

  I don't get why posters go below the belt like Wrong Way did in this thread.

  Lady Lee obviously is very sincere in her story, he had no right to attack her like that.

  the excerpt below is from the book "people of the lie", by the late m. scott peck, who also authored the best-seller "the road less traveled.

  " "people of the lie" is about the nature of evil, and dashed all my previously held notions about what evil was.. you would do yourself a favor if your attention span is long enough to take the time to read this, because as you do, i want you to relate what is being said directly to the leaders of the watchtower society, past and present.

  Maybe the GB can be put in the "evil" category mentioned in the OP, but there is no way to know.

  Because they could be just trying to protect an idea: that God is working through the Watchtower.

  Now we are not dealing entirely with self absorbtion but the complete devotion to a concept.

  That article is describing narcissism which is true evil.

  When someone becomes to enveloped in their own self absorbtion they develop Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

  When this happens the individual needs to be taken from the world because all they will do is destroy everything in their path.
