Please Switch Off Your Critical Thinking
by pale.emperor ini have an uneasy feeling inside that something is coming this year or the next.
perhaps a new big announcement that turns jwdom on it's head.. we've seen the statement in the watchtower november 15th, 2013 which said:.
watchtower november 15th, 2013 - page 20, paragraph 17.. .

What would Watchtower be like now with out the 1975 fiasco.
by joe134cd inno doubt this has been discussed before, but if the 1975 event had never happened where would watchtower be now.
comments please..

It is QUITE possible that I would still be with them singing their praises. Maybe. But that was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I had so much invested in that buildup and it destroyed my faith even though I had doubts before. However it is what it is so they say...it was and here we are all these years later. So yes it may have been a different landscape had it not happened. But looking back they went down that track so many times in the past, so I am not surprised that it happened all over again. Each time a lot suffered never to return. History is a great teacher!

Freudian slip in last Sunday's WT?
by The Fall Guy ini had this point highlighted to me yesterday by a dyed-in-the-wool j.w.
who is beginning to see cracks in his beloved golden calf of warwick.
so encouraging to hear his disgruntlement with org-related topics.. “many in the christian congregation may not have expected their loved ones to die this side of armageddon.” (july 2017 study wt).

Yes I think we should not read too much into this. What they are saying to the older ones who really did think they would never die is: Come to terms with your mortality - you lot WILL die this side of Armageddon. I tell every one now, at my age, there is only one way we older ones will get into the new world - that is via the 'underground'. That stops the conversation in its tracks. However, joking aside, we were made to believe that we were the generation that would NEVER pass away. Now that we can see that we will pass away this side, we begin to realize what this organization has done to us. It is hard to accept that we have been duped for so long. For many this realization has been very traumatic with just a one line comment in the Watchtower to cover their deception. Unforgivable!

Assembly experiences that strech the truth
by karter inelder and his wife build a flash house.. they go on the stage at an assembly and give an experiences of how they sold the flash house to simplify their life so they can go pioneering.. the real story.. elder and wife can't afford the flash house and have to sell it he never goes pioneering she does until they are declared bankrupt.. why were they bankrupt?.
the money leaft over from the flash house they invested in a yet to be build apartment and the developer goes bankrupt takeing their money.. just one of many.. karter..

OnTheWayOut: Maybe it's lost in culture.
Yes you are right. Here in NZ we do not use the term 'flash house' to refer to a brothel. It simply refers to a flashy house, an expensive house usually built or purchased to show off ones wealth. This is what karter was referring to. An expensive house. So clearly the truth is stretched when the wrong impression is given by relating rubbish at some assemblies or conventions.

So how did JF Rutherford function...?
by HowTheBibleWasCreated inevery picture i have seen at him at beth shirim and other private places are with a bottle of alcohol.. while for me personally i couldn't care less anymore.... for jw's this is low moral character.
so i'm an going to guess he was a functioning alcoholic... how did that work with his closest workers?
was he gay too?

Totally agree karter. One of the very first things I read when I went on line and started researching. What an eye opener! And I agree with Joe - not until you do a bit of additional reading do you get a full picture of Watchtower past. A whole chapter on Rutherford is included in John Cedar's book. Well worth a read.

I recall the days when once a month a talk was given at the book study group. As soon as the speaker started to talk I was fast asleep. He talked to me about it after and all I could say was I was so tired....it had nothing to do with what he was saying. At least that made him happy. A few years later the speaker was D/f for interfering with young boys.....maybe just as well I fell asleep.

1975 and the burning question/s??
by UnshackleTheChains inok. so i'm sitting there at the convention.
the video comes up about 1975 and the fact that the faithful brother in the video maintained his faith in the bible by adhering to the scripture that says:.
'no one knows the day or the hour as to when the lord is coming'.

Yes karter you are right. I too lived through it. We both saw it and heard it only to be told we heard it all wrongly. That was the last straw for me. So many decisions were made around that date. To bring it up now and still say that only the spirituality weak thought it is so wrong and upsetting. It was the exact opposite....the spiritually STRONG were the ones who made decisions around that date and taught it. The weak were the ones who did NOT go with it.

Well some have said that in some parts of the world this type of emotion is very common. True. But.....the bOrg has always insisted on uniformity. 'If it happens here then it will happen there' approach. So it is surprising that the GB have approved it in one area of the world but no mention in others. Maybe there is more to come in the future! And by that I mean actions mentioned by joe135cd above!! Time will tell. We live in very interesting times indeed! Watch this space.
