Great point OMG! I agree..

have you ever heard a witness say something like "why do apostates have to keep talking about the wts/jw faith?
why don't they just go on with their lives?
if they've found something better, why don't they just focus on that instead of us?
Great point OMG! I agree..

i saw this video on youtube and didnt know if i should laugh or crawl into the fetal position.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abm0t-qhllc&feature=related.
.
we had several "talent" shows over the years in my original congregation - it was the only annual gathering more nauseating that the meetings.. my friend and i would always bring our walkmans and blare heavy metal in the back - hoping to block out the embarassing crap on the stage.you always had a few older ones get up on stage and slaughter a kingdumb song.
Ours were awful. Always a bunch of people that couldn't sing at all. But they thought they could so they put that extra push into it.
LOL

Objectively speaking, there are some strong points for people on the inside:
(1) The house to house preaching - as far as I'm aware, they completely blow any other religion out of the water with the extent of the ministry. When they look in the NWT bible and it uses the words "house to house", this seals part of the deal in their mind that they are in the right religion. Of course they cannot connect the dots that "if what I'm preaching is wrong, then this is all null and void". But from a numbers and participation standpoint, it is quite impressive.
(2) General Behavior: The members are so indoctrinated, lots of them follow the rules quite strictly. In public, they don't curse, don't steal - from a broad viewpoint non-witnesses will often think they are pretty nice people.
(3) The general idea that "this is the real truth about God and therefore his entire organization believes exactly the same". This was a hindrance to me leading up to me taking the step to actually admit that I was wrong. So many different churches believing so many different things - I just knew that everybody can't be right. So the "perceived unity" of the JWs was a strong force for keeping my doubts in check.
Those are just a few things that seem to have a hold on lots of Witnesses. I'm certainly not taking sides with WT, but trying to be non-biased in my observations.

i successfully skipped my very first district convention this weekend, after 25 years in the borg.
i spent the day with my disassociated parents - ate breakfast and lunch with them.
felt great.
SixofNine - Damn it feels good to be a ganster!

me - "whatcha doin?".
jw - "preaching to "save lives"?".
me - "who's gonna do the killing?".
But at the same time, he's so loving and kind. He's the god of all comfort. Even if my parents disowned, he would take me under his wing.

just when i thought this stupid belief that earthquakes went up in 1914, here it is again.
4/6/2010.
this was a co giving the talk, the same one that ended with overlapping generations.. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/27642/earthquake.mp3.
Carl Oloff Johson totally debunks this issue beyond a shadow of a doubt in his book "Sign of the Last Days". He also debunks famines, pestilences, and wars. It's an excellent book.

at romans 6:1-14, we read in part, but especially at 6:7, " for he who has died has been freed from sin.
... we have died with respect to the wrath that sin incurs, having had our sins forgiven".
now stop and think.
Mary - And lets add a bit more to your point. Every generation of mankind since Revelation was written has come up with their own interpretations of how this nonsense "fits" their specific time period. It's been an unending cycle of apocalyptic interpretations that have never come true.

On the line of this subject, I can recommend the book "History of the End of the World" by Jonathon Kirsch. It's an excellent read, and outlines the history of apocalyptic groups from Jesus' day to right now. Very enlightening.

My former presiding overseer has been a Witness for 69 years. He told me in our last conversation that he feels Armageddon is only weeks away. Or perhaps months.
69 years. 9 Armageddon predictions later. Still just a heartbeat away.
