Well done! Are you going to hang up your saddle or is there another adventure you might be temped to do?
I always wanted to get involved with fundraising events. Waited years till I finished fading - then my dreams came true :-)

per a recent letter to elders:.
beginning september 1, there will be a change to the way attendance is recorded at congregation meetings.. currently, attendance is counted at 4 of the 5 meeting (public talk, wt study, congregation "bible" study, and service meeting).. but after sept. 1, meeting attendance will only be taken at 2 of the meetings - during the "first quarter" of the wt study, and also at the cbs.. .
no reason in given for the change in the letter, and i can't figure out why myself.. the numbers are not published anywhere - the only "official" record is a 6 month average the co puts together during his visit.. why request less information from the congregations, especially when it "costs" nothing to accumulate it in the first place?
Great theories and experience makes it hard to fault them. I think they're just trying to make everything as simple as possible. So much time and effort goes into these waste of time activities when people are leaving through the back door by droves.
They'll of course mention how much easier they're making the lives of brothers - just before they make them collect the magazines from the assembly halls.
is it true?!!!
extremely curious about it.
who'll be the watch person then?!
How are they going to rally the R&F to do more on those 2 weeks a year? Previously they'd pretend to be uber-spiritual and all turn up on FS and at meetings - that'll change immediately.
How will the R&F ever know who's going to be appointed next if they're not giving talks during the CO visits.
How will sisters ever be considered for special honour if they can't make a meal for the CO & his wife or take the CO's wife on their studies? Or how will those young teenagers not be encouraged to reach out by being allowed to do the microphone duty on the CO visit?
How will shepherding ever get done if the threat of a CO visit doesn't strike fear into the heart of every elder to actually do their assigned duties?

jehovah's witness saves house from devastating fire.. http://www.bayofplentytimes.co.nz/local/news/jehovahs-witness-saves-house-from-devastating-fire/3918358/.
bangalore.
.
really good story and hope someone would do the same for me. In my view this is the exception rather than the rule though as I know very few JW's that would intervene or have enough common sense to act correctly. In fact I know numerous JW's that have had dodgy wiring put in their houses on the cheap - something that may cause a fire years from now.

what can you tell me about jehovah's witnesses and their individual debts?
- - do you see people get overextended on credit card debt?.
- - is there an atititude that since the armegheddon is going to come "any time" that it's ok to charge up the debt?.
The JW's I knew probably had less debt than your average person in the street but also had far less savings and lower pensions.
There were some I knew with large debts and they were the ones who assumed it was a shared debt. They expected to borrow everything from the ones who'd saved such as their cars etc. and get their meals bought for them!!?
I've not seen so much materialism than in the KH. One elder in a neighbouring KH stole funds to pay for his demanding wife's shopping habits. Over quite a few years he took £50k. She wanted a divorce when she found out probably because she knew the money had dried up. She always acted like she'd been the one taken to the cleaners.

i was talking with my wife today about college and i asked her about why the society makes such a big deal about witnesses not going to college.
in typical dub fashion, my wife tells me that they do not discourage college, but they do not encourage it either.
instead, they encourage placing kingdom interests first.. now i told her about you (billy) and how you were at bethel and are now starting college at the age of 40 (i think that is correct).
here's my story on college:
I was a bright kid - the top of the school when young. I didn't try hard later at school because the end was going to come and wasn't pushed to make an effort. I started A-levels (pre Uni education) but dropped out because life wasn't great at home and I wasn't enjoying it. I basically had no purpose in life and I knew I couldn't go to Uni. I was applauded in the KH for being a drop-out and I started pioneering which was all everyone talked about.
At my KH no-one did a degree. Any kind of further education was worldly thinking from satan. You'd get involved with drugs and girls and the occult. At best you'd not get a job at the end of it. It was all extremely negative.
I decided to go to college in my 20's because I wanted to be out of my parents control by buying a house and needed to earn decent money to do that. I went under the pretext that they were professional qualifications which would allow me to do well paid part time work later on. It kept me away from some meetings but I went to evening meetings at two KH's. It was so hard. Working full time maybe 10 hours a day, travelling for 3 hours and 3 hours of college too. I was always tired.
During those years I got so many patronising negative comments; "haven't you finished yet" "why don't we see you more" "what is the point". By the time I finished quite a number of teenagers started doing degrees and got a lot of stick about it (not that they were following my example in any way).
I've now got a great career, own an expensive house in a great area and more importantly been able to successfully fade so I can spend my life with people who care instead of depression inducing nutters (apologies to any JW's reading this).
Higher education is great - life is too short.

i left to go out for my morning walk this morning and saw two men in ties with briefcases walking with an umbrella.
(it is south florida after all) and of course i knew who they were immediately.
i passed three more "groups" on the way out of the complex walking their baby carriages wearing their long dresses and practical shoes with their hair up in buns going maybe 1mph....and i couldnt leave fast enough.
I recall that dubs ring the bell a few times as by the third ring they know no-one is going to answer and for those few seconds they're safe from those evil door slamming, apathetic householders. It's all timewasting.
at our service meeting it was announced that there is a change in the manner in which magazines are now to be delivered to the congregations.. up until now, magazines were sent to each kingdom hall via ups.
in years past magazines were sent to each congregation po's home address via ups.. going forward, magazines will be sent only as far as the assembly hall.
it is the responsibility of each kingdom hall to send brother(s) twice a month to drive out there, pick up the magazines, and return.. this of course saves a little bit of money for the society - shipping larger packages to fewer addresses will cost less.. however, what about the expense to the local congregations?.
bet whoever does the driving will take an unbaptised dub with them to count the time. 5 hour round trip twice a month = average hours. If i was still in I'd volunteer for that - FS that easy is worth paying for
SD-7, great way to spend the DC - one I'm sure you'll remember for many years and maybe even be able to quote a line or too for even longer.
Dark Side, I trust that pile of washing started to reduce when you bailed out.
Jamiebowers, got a reminder of your story on a recent thread - there are moments in life when someone in so called authority can be supportive or be plain evil. Sorry you had to put up with the latter.

does a bear shit in the woods?...
i`ve never really cared about that question until today... bears do shit in the woods.....more importantly on my lawn... .
the garbage can took a beating.....it`s bear proof but has some really cool bear scars now... he dragged his huge bear bum up my cherry tree.....busted branch's everywhere... .
I've been lol reading this thread - very embarrassing in the office.
Someone burgled a neighbour's house and then took a dump on our lawn afterwards. No bears in our neighbourhood.
