  anyone interested in sport will be aware of lance armstrong's final admission to taking banned substances to win the tour de france 7 times.

  he was a fraud.

  his many fans, fans of cycling and people who also suffered cancer that looked up to him and his incredible achievements have given lots of different reactions to his confession.

  "I told a lie and just repeated it" Really? He continued taking drugs for a decade, he lied about it a dozens of different ways to many people over many years. He is keen on politics - he is trying to save his future political career. I think his line of justification shows he has a considerable aptitude for the job - but may never be trusted enough to hold office.

  If the WBTS made a completely honest confession "we don't know what we're doing - we made it all up - we're a bunch of fake rich men." I'd tip my hat to them and say thank you very much. They'd never hear another word from me. It's their blatant arrogance, brazen dare I say, that makes me think they'll refuse to ever apologise until they're forced into a corner when even their followers know they're lying. Then it will be too late to be forgiven.

Support, disappointment, anger.

  I'm not comparing him to the WBTS but what would it be like for it's followers to hear an admission of guilt that they had misled people - that the truth was a lie? Most on this site have come to that understanding - but to hear the GB admit they misled and are a fraud? How would it really make you feel?

  priceless! I knew a few who adopted a lot of the above. I was honest as a pioneer but towards the end of my fade I used to diddle my report by adopting the following approach:

  Turn up at well attended group. Pretend I already had some not homes to complete or some calls and go off in the car. I then drove into the distance a long way away and went out for the day.

  Off topic but this worked a treat until the final time I went out on FS and the PO collared me to work with him - he never took no for an answer so rather than try and make excuses I was really positive. My confidence disappeared when he asked me a heap of stuff about the magazines and which presentations had been successful. Thankfully you know pretty much how every awake article will pan out just by those titles "when will there be an end to suffering?", "when will mankind find peace?", "when will there be an end to stupid awake titles?"

  I think I tried a little self-deprecation "oh I thought this magazine wouldn't appeal to people so didn't offer it and when it was all I had left to place I tried it and I placed them at 3 houses in a row - I should have had more faith - do you know if anyone has any spare copies because I'd love some more". Anyway the one hour seemed to pass ok and that was it - the last time I ever had to bother anyone on FS ever again.

  how often did i hear those words at circuit or district assemblies - that pioneering was the best job in the world?

  how often did i hear a fake job advert for pioneering where there was 100% job satisfaction working for the most powerful person in the universe and you'd get to travel the world and live forever.... i've done both jobs and would say that the job advert should more honestly read like this:.

  Being constantly told you're a qualified teacher and NEVER feeling like one.

  so true - i couldn't teach - i didn't know anything so how could i teach anything? It wasn't just my time i was wasting - a little bit of every householder i ever met.

  when I asked to come off as a pioneer thankfully I wasn't hounded out by a CO or burned-out. Just bored. I mentioned it to an elder after the meeting and his response was "ok". that was it. I was expecting a bit of drama - a "well we will need to discuss this with with the BOE and give you a shepherding call" or "well done for all your hard work". Something more than "ok". In hindsight I'm grateful of course not to have had a backlash.

  I did have "some" good times on service - had a real laugh at times and got some confidence and equally I've had some terrible times at work but generally my first post is exactly what i think of pioneering and some of your experiences back this up!

  feelings of depression were because I obviously had a guilty concience and needed to sort myself out and that my low hours were a sign of Jehovah's spirit not being with me

  ambersun - your comments are spot on with this topic - exactly about what it is like to do the job of pioneering. Interesting logic from the CO - he din't approve of you so your hardships are a result of your guilt and lack of faith. If he did approve of you I'm sure your hardships would be a result of being tested because of your excellent faith.

  Isn't it terrible you have to go through something so bad until you finally realise you are doing a pointless, thankless job. The lovebombing and recognition is all at the start - when people join or when they start pioneering - pretty soon you're on your own and just someone to complain about and victimise.

  Sisters are certainly a lower class to males in the truth - that is what gets reinforced every meeting. As a young MS I'd take a FS group with experienced pioneer sisters and they had to listen to me just because i was male - rubbish. I've since worked for some amazingly talented women and I know that if they were JW's their skills and opinions would be worthless.

  Hmmm WTWizard - I remember those experiences too - heard one pioneers talking about how they economised by buying a good quality coat and shoes before they stopped working and how they were still lasting well.

  I knew quite a few pioneers who were on benefits and were careful on how much they earned so they could get the max from the government to pay for their rent and food. Not sure the householders would have been so keen to be told their taxes were going to people who knocked on their doors and told them they wouldn't live through armageddon because they loved money.

  one of the mums on this forum is complaining about dubs knocking her door.

  she wont answer the door because they unintentionally upset her very much the last time they called which was a few years back.

  apparently she answered the door and the witness ladies opening statement, with a lovely smiling face, was .

  That is so offensive! I've worked with someone who was happy to keep a mum on the doorstep when it was freezing cold with a crying baby in the background - she was desperate to close the door and attend to her baby but it was proving difficult. So little consideration.

  at the last elders school i heard from a few different attendees that the average age was easily 60+.

  there will be a lot of elders gone within the next 10yrs.

  there is nowhere near enough young brothers to replace these ageing elders.

  In my local three congregations they had a fair few competent, hard working elders. Two of the congregations were steady role model types in the circuit. The third congregation had a slice of major corruption among the elders and the attendance halved at the hall. Not enough elders there to keep it going. They had to merge the congregations from three down to two. So the society chose to close the one with the largest savings funds as it happened. Funds that had been saved up over 40 years for a new KH. Now there is an interesting strategy...

  ambersun - I shouldn't be shocked but I still am. I'm so sad and angry at your story because I know how it is that people waste their early years doing what they're told and then out of misguided loyalty they keep going until some catastrophy intervenes - but if not then the decades slip by (well grind by very slowly and painfully as you put yourself in dangerous exhausting situations to meet a ridiculous hours target that they change at will).

  Your loyalty and hard work in any company would have been rewarded in the most approriate way - financially (in your very own savings account!) so you could choose to spend it how you wanted - having a comfortable, secure living and possibly to share with your family. This made me think of the Farepack Scandal when savings were effectively lost/stolen by dodgy directors. There was outrage at some savings being stolen - yet in your case - a bunch of dodgy company men with the misguided influence of your family robbed you of a lifetime of earnings, savings, pension, health and opportunities.

  For all the pioneers who have spent a lifetime distributing literature - you have made a few men at the top very comfortable for the rest of their years. It's not fair.
