Worst Ever Field Service Experiences
by dozy ingenerally i found most people were pretty apathetic and often surprisingly tolerant , but we've all had some bad ones.
looking back , here were my worst couple of experiences - there probably were others but i've probably long forgotten them or blanked them off.. i was a kid of maybe 13 & it was bitterly cold & pouring with rain.
i was working alone in a middle class street near my school where i knew a lot of my school teachers lived & was scared stiff at every door half the time pretending to press bells , doing the fake knock etc.

I was pregnant and felt like I was going to faint from standing for so long. I interrupted the conversation to tell my then husband...he gave me the car keys...I went by my self and sat down while they finished the coversation, which at the time seemed an eternity

Astrology was a subject that was so fascinating to me for a while.
I don't buy into it as guide in life, but it is interesting.
Then there's the question of Vedic (Jyotish) astrology vs Western astrology?? You will get quite different readings depending on which method you use. Which made me evenmore leary of it all. But, for fun, here you are~
Western astrological charts~
moon sighn~ cancer
rising sign~ cancer
sun sighn~ sagittarius
venus is scorpio
Jyotish astro chart~
gemini rising
moon rising ascendant
mercury 7th house in sun
moon rules second
saturn in second
venus strongest in chart
So, as you clearly see, I was born a unique and special person...have the personality of an amazing and sensational person...and will live a fabulous life...filled with romance, wealth, good health, and a great career! I would have never known..thank you, astrology (both types!)
forgive my sarcasm, if you must~

oh dear I think I messed up and pushed too hard
by Frazzled UBM inreading all the posts on the wt study on higher education and careers really fired me up yesterday.
i have 2 undergraduate and 2 postgraduate degerees and a career as a result which allows me to provide well for my jw wife and son.
i was already unhappy because after 5 or 6 weeks of not going and appearing to be making progress she went back on sunday for the second sunday in a row and as usual was away all day.

Frazzled~ For what it's worth, I feel that it would have been better if I had not posted here. I don't know you and know virtually nothing about you and what happened. So it feels odd now having given 'advice' on your marriage. For some reason your post struck a chord with me. I'll just leave it with sincerely hoping the best for you and your family.

What Londo said.
What do you mean by "let her have it with both barrels"?
You have a valid point with the backwards and opportunistic ways of the religion, but going off on your wife isn't going to get you any closer to her letting her guard down.
And you may hate me for this, but ...maybe she also didn't appreciate you going through her things and then using what you found to then explode.
The fact that you are the bread-winner (or main bread-winner) does not give you all the power and say so. Her threat about your child (which would not be ok) may have been what she felt was her only power in the argument, and may have not meant it. Give her the dignity you would want.

The " HIGHER EDUCATION" thread!!!
by DATA-DOG inalright.
let's have the ultimate discussion on "higher education.
" let's talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly.

OK, I'll play along in the reindeer games~
You expressed it well, DATA-DOG~
Name: freeflyingfaerie, you know that one :)
Age: 38 (in two days)
Edumacation: vocational high school graduate, computer programming (ha ha, COBOL! (and before internet) and has gone from my head like through a sieve for lack of use. Didn't come in too handy when going from door to door.....now I'm quite illiterate with computers) (with honours...that was ok for a JW)
College: Some. In its infancy. And doing mighty fine I might add (though it gets rough at times balancing out time for everything, and some teachers/classes are just better/more enjoyable than others)
Employment: Independent massage business located in yoga/dance/spin studio, part-time. Also teach yoga in studio and private sessions at clients' home (not a major source of income). Currently awaiting state licensure (passed the prerequisite national exam after studying my tail off), then will apply for full-time work in this profession (which I learned years ago on-the-job), as pharmacy technician.
So the plan is to live a healthy, modest lifestyle while raising my little ones (thankfully I do have help), and continue attending college at a somewhat slower pace. I see that to achieve a graduate college/university degree one must not attempt to sprint the whole way, but especially for people like myself make it a long-distance pace. I don't want to burn-out or lose sight of the life I have right in front of me with my girls. But, I'm not throwing in the towel either. Even though some of the coursework can be tedious, I am glad that I'm enriching my life and it will be nice to have a degree as a reward at the end. I do hope to be fluent in the profession I chose. I do hope to keep challenging myself and learning and growing as I have been. (in and out of the classroom).
Do I wish I wouldv'e done this all sooner? I think so. But I can say that (even though sometimes I feel overwhelmed, as I now have more responsibilities than I would have in my late teens/twenties) I appreciate going to college after having been told for so long that it was a bad thing.
Whatever happens along the way with school, I am glad to feel like the world has opened up and I have choices and opportunities~

Thanks for sharing that video. The couple presented that well.
The new 'Youth' book ...yet another repulsive reason to find the JW religion, with the governing body in particular, reprehensible.

LOL, this will freak you outÂ…
by transhuman68 inive been cruising the net in search of the meaning of life (lol- as if!
) and came across this amazing piece of writing that i think puts everything in perspective... .
at first, when you really get that nothing matters at all it's very depressing.

freeflyingfaerie
Love that piece you had in the link. I think about that all the time. it especially occured to me as I was letting go of the concept of 'god'.
It has been profound. I thought life without some 'being' out there permeating a spirit realm would mean a cold existanee. When I let my self go there, though, and looked at life for what it is, that there is no 'special purpose', it was as Sloman describes.... melancholy, relief, liberation, even joy. Without the burden of fufilling some prophecy or Grand Purpose, without 'trying to get there'(whatever 'there' is), it's much easier to just enjoy the here and now. And even though I still want to accomplish things, knowing deep down that it is in vain ironically makes it a better experience.

There's a little Houdini in all of us
by freeflyingfaerie inas i responded to an earlier post it occured to me that those of us who have been in the religion for any length of time are like harry houdini, the illusionist.. we willingly (for those that chose to really believe the lies) bound ourselves in chains.. we always had the opportunity to releaase ourselves...it was all an illusion...an illusion that we played along with.
but the option to end the mental confinement was always within our power.. going door to door we must have looked like a freak show to others.
we put ourselves in a glass cage in chains, as a "spectacle",...in which we were unwittingly frauds, because the whole time we could have gotton free.. that's all for now... .

Adam~ I've been thinking about what you wrote. It is extremely sad, but true. Social ostracism is a bitch.
