"You insulted our Prophet" similarities with WTS / Paris attacks
by AFRIKANMAN in"this is from the nov. 15th 1952 question from readers.
this is directly from the cd btw:
questions from readers in the case of where a father or mother or son or daughter is disfellowshipped ,how should such person be treated by members of the family in their family relationship?p.c.,ontario, canada.

Kind of a weak comparion.. it says there that God's law through Christ forbids us from killing them.
It is kind of disgusting the contempt with which they describe how disfellowshipped people deserve to die, though. The connection to radical Islam is not there however.

Je Suis Charlie
by Slidin Fast inthis incident in paris makes me feel absolutely furious.
yes i feel desperately sorry for the victims and their families no one should have to deal with that.
the thing that makes me feel absolutely incandescent though is the attack on freedom of speech and expression.

I think countries have the power to shut down religions that pose a threat to the protection of its inherent citizens who are incompliance to those laws of the land.
If a government were to ban Islam, do you really think these extremist animals would just pack up and work 9-5 in a cubicle somewhere? If anything, it would probably fan the flames of their persecution complex and need for vengeance. A lot of them are trained and belong to terror cells in Muslim countries anyway. I would suspect if they are not raised this way, more are radicalized on the internet than in a mosque.
There isn't an easy answer to terrorism, and realistically such a barbaric attack probably does chill free speech to some extent, as some have observed. Hopefully the resolve of the French people and free societies everywhere won't allow that to happen. But I can't imagine that outlawing a religion, the majority of whose adherents are not terrorists, would have any deterrent effect.

If the WT lose this appeal do they have an automatic right to appeal to the California Supreme Court or could they be refused further right of appeal?
The California Supreme Court would have the discretion to accept the appeal or not. They can refuse to hear it without explaining why. If there is a further petition for review, it should be granted or denied within 4-6 months from when the Court of Appeal opinion is released.
Of course, if the CA Supreme Court accepts the appeal, that would trigger a whole new round of briefing, oral argument, etc.

So confused as to how long this could go on?? Does anyone know if this is the end of the line after this decision?
The panel will issue a written opinion within 90 days after the oral argument date. It could be sooner; 30-60 day turnaround is common.
Then the decision can be appealed to the California Supreme Court. That must be filed within 10 days after the court of appeals opinion is filed.

Experience in a talk
by Da.Furious inlast week we had an elder giving a talk, cant remember the title.. the thing that was of interest is the experience he gave:.
"a brother who was working in a hospital had to leave his job which was paying him good money because the nurses wanted to sleep with him and they kept putting notes for him on his desk!".
this is not the first time i hear similar experience.

Is he a doctor? Because if I have learned anything from all the hospital shows on TV it is that the nurses always want to sleep with the doctors. -

the BoE would be any new plaintiff's first target.
Individuals are never a plaintiff's first target unless they are covered by insurance or top 1%-ish wealthy.
Whether there is organizatonal liability depends on what is involved in the lawsuit. I cant think of what kind of lawsuits would expose elders to liability on a frequent basis. I dont recall ever hearing of an elder exposed to personal liability for a congregation matter; not that it couldn't have happened.
I'm sure the organization is trying/has tried to insulate themselves from garden variety lawsuits like car accidents involving publishers. It's possible the cong could be sued for that kind of thing; although don't the congregations participate in some kind of general insurance fund through the WTS? Not that they would sue for coverage of course, if the WTS didn't cover an incident.

WTS leader rants against higher education
by hoser inon jw tv.
anthony morris is ranting against higher education.
he is blaming parents for enrolling their kids in college.

I believe that most of the bizarre doctrines have at least some kind of theological origin - blood, neutrality, holidays, stance on homosexuality, etc.
But higher education I think is based, pure and simple, on the calculated belief that very few would continue to follow blindly after the full college experience. Not only learning how to think critically and ask searching questions, but non-WTS structured exposure to "worldly" people of all stripes and finding out they're not all bad, and realizing that there are many rewarding and challenging paths in life, and it's really cool to be able to choose one.
What other explanation is there for telling generation after generation of JWs you don't need an education because the end is right around the corner? Even with blood, they have softened a bit as some of the hardcore blood doctrine GB members have died out.

maybe JWLeaks will know how to get the transcripts
Unlike at the trial court, there is usually no court reporter making a transcript at appeals oral arguments (at least not in any of the states I am familiar with; although I am not certain about California). So you would have to get it from ABC (assuming they make a transcript) or someone else who had permission to record.
