the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ
I dunno, that doesn't sit right with me. JW's would refer to the teaching of Jehovah before they would talk about Jesus, cuz Jesus is just the CO-Pilot for the BIG GUY.
dear ex-jw.com.
many of you have asked me why i am in this place.
you think i am being disobedient to the faithful and discreet slave or being hypocritical when i frequent this site.

what smells?
a born-into-it teenager or maybe someone in their early 20's, gets df'd for an unspecified offence.
later the df'd person protests that df'ing is unscriptural and inhumane, only to be told "you knew the score, you knew what would happen, it's your fault".. but is it?
maybe it might be fairer for a converted person to be df'd for breaking the rules, after all, a converted person has joined the jw's willingly and has therefore accepted the witness rules.
That's easy for you to say Amazing, but a very difficult 'trick' for a young person who's entire 'life', even prior to baptism, is wrapped up as one of Jehovah's Witness without a rational opportunity to truly explore alternatives.
I was born and raised, and I am not going to lie I felt pressure to get baptized, from 11-21...ten long years of watching my friends do it, planning on when to do it so they could do it together etc. I was not encouraged to look for alternatives no, but I did it on my own. When questioned by friends and family I simply cited the example that Jesus went off at an early age without his parents conset to talk to religious leaders for himself...I'm just doing the same. I visited with preists, went to synagouges, didn't go to a mosque because there wasn't one nearby, but I did my research on my own.
I was immersed, I do have total withdrawl symptoms from being cut off from every friend I have ever had. Again, I realize for each person things are different, and pressures are different. I went through a lot of pressure myself, depression, introspection, and the like, but I made my choices for me...as I said situations are different for everyone, levels of control, personality types, etc. But I think people do have free will and you can exercise it at any age.
arrogance at it's best .
most members of jehovah's witnesses will tell you "once a baptized witness always a witness" there is no way out .
they most likely are referring to the so called knowledge of there "truth" as if the knowledge binds you forever to their rules.

I know it's semantics, but for the most part witnesses are classified as a sect not a cult, because of their sheer numbers, cults are condsidered to be localized to a small area.
Also because they are basically an offshoot of christianity they are considered not unorthodox, where as the followers of Corresh are considered a cult, because of small size and Corresh believed he was Jesus. and is considered spurious.
Again like I said, semantics, for some people they are for sure a cult, according to textbooks they are sect, and still other textbooks consider them a cult...just wanted to pass on some food for thoought.
did being a witness hurt, hamper, or help your dreams?
did you want to be a dancer?
an actor?
Which dream when?
When I was five I was going to be a ballarina, and a waitress...I dunno how I came up with that combo, but apparantly Vegas was calling to me?
When I was 10-15 I wanted to be a zoologist and work with tigers.
I still toyed with that idea for years after that, but at about 15, teacher seemed more realistic.
I don't know that I buy into the crap that the organization held us back from things. I mean yes to a certain extent, but we are out now, so do what makes you happy. Where there is a will there is a way. I wanted to act in high school, so I did. I know it ticked off some dubs, but others applauded my efforts and came to the plays. I do know some families were a lot more strict than others, and for some the org had a lot stronger hold on them, and it had a strong hold on me too, but I knew what I wanted, and I knew I would find loopholes to get what I wanted, and I did...blank stares, and gossip behind my back be damned.
Aroar-I have to agree with you. I came from a very non-affluent area. Pretty much everyone was middle class. As you said, anyone who had more money than the rest of the congregation was boastful.
As for the whole "being blessed by Jehovah" with riches...it was the exact opposite, if you were crapped on by God, Fate, whatever, you must be really special to be a ble to keep up the hard battle. The congregation I came from EVERYONE was related, I swear it was like Arkansas or something. Everyone was a cousin, aunt, or uncle to someone else in the hall. There were maybe 10 families that were outside the circle of the family. It was rather Mafia-esque.
The thing I found in my congregation is who ever was "connected" got a free ride. A majority of the elders were the heads of these mob families, along with most of the MS's. For example, two of my witness friends got pregnant. One was related to the family, one was not. I won't go into details, but suffice to say the one who had family in the congregation was only reproved, while the other was forced to Da herself or be Df'ed...not an unsual story as I have seen while posting on this board.
I guess it is just a regional thing to decided who has the power and who doesn't.
what brings a smile to your face?
i cant help but smile when my wife laughs, or when my kids play outside.
i also smile when my boy, who is 15 wants to talk to me.
How can this not make you smile? I have this picture hanging in my office so I can smile everyday...
(I think he gets his comedic talent from his auntie...I taught him everything he needs to know about buckets)

Good point obi...
Heck the Amish even let their teens go through a rebelious period and let them listen to radios, and associate with those outside their faith, express themselves with dress, etc etc.
