Wasted life.

my parents are in their 80's.. they have been jw's since the late 1950's.. they both have serious misgivings about the way the organisation is going & they feel lost.. however it has been a damned hard struggle over all those years being jw's & raising a family in the 'truth' & they do not feel they can turn their back on it.. what can i say to help them?

You are so kind Hadit & Sapphy, I really appreciate what you have said.

I realise we may not have mum & dad with us in a few years time & I tell them I love them & they know we all do.

They can't understand why we don't blame them for raising us as JW's & we do tell them they only tried to do the best for us & no-one could ask for more than that..............& that we are glad they are are our mum & dad.

It helps them when we say this & they go on again for a while but then they go through a bit of a downer because of ill health & it all starts hitting home again.

'Expectation postponed' certainly makes the heart sick & the drivel the GB/FDS have fed us as 'Food at the right time' giving all the false hopes they told us to have faith in because they had the 'hotline' to God...........ARRRRRRGH makes me so ANGRY!

Dad doesn't read much now but mum has read the copy of 'Crisis of Conscience' I lent her. She read parts of the book to my father & it made a big impact.

Thanks for your responses.

Luckily we are a close family & we are able to talk very openly with each other about what we think of the WBTS.

Mum & Dad never talk 'cult speak' they are practical, normal people who hoped for a future for their kids & it's sad to see them get so distressed.

Of course my brothers & sisters are all trying to deal with the consequences of a JW upbringing & have stepped back from their congregational 'privileges'.

Sister in my Congregation claims Jehovah always answers her prayers....including her new skirt and shoes for $20 bucks???

to show you how dumb and shallow my congregation is a one of our "deeper" sisters claimed in field services that "jehovah answers all my prayers...like last week i wanted a new skirt and shoes for field service but only had $20 dollars....and would you believe i found them!!!

now i for one though well, why didn't you pray or the oil pipe in the mexican gulf to dry up...or food for the poor in haiti.

other pioneers tell of vegetables falling off trucks just when they had nothing for dinner???

Why does she think she is so righteous that God made sure she had a skirt & shoes for just the amount she could afford when........

millions of children don't have skirts or shoes to clothe them or a roof over their heads

millions have to scratch around in the dirt for a grain of rice to put in their mouths.

when so many children are forced to work long hours of back breaking toil in dangerous mining or manufacturing industries.

when many thousands of kids are brutally sexually abused or young girls raped & made to do unspeakable things to satisfy filthy greasy sweaty men

However good ole Jah made sure this woman had a skirt & shoes for selling the Watchtower??????????????

... that i just remembered.

it has been brought up in one of the many enlightening posts here, but i wanted to just share what he said.. the co was speaking about how the org growth has somewhat tapered off and not seeing the large increases as before (too bad we don't have a talk about how many that have left!

) and that the org is now 7+mil active members (yes, he said active specifically).

Seems he was more concerned to get the number up so the borg can boast they have 14 million members than caring for the spirituality of these ones.

Did you get token invites to witness gatherings?

i was pretty much a loner the whole time i was in my old congregation, and it wasn't for lack of young people - there were plenty of "young ones", but because of various situations that went unchecked, rumors and just plain nastiness, i did not have any friends.. some of you might relate to this.

you feel like you don't fit in either camp - the world and the congregation - a rock in a hard place.. on the rare occasion i did get a token invite to a jw gathering, it was usually a video evening, as we called them in the uk.

since i had no social life to speak of, i would attend these rare and "exciting" events but it was always a let down.. you see, unless you have shared history with these folks, it's pretty much a non event.

When we were kids my parents were not financially well off but they did their best.

They were never included by better off brothers & sisters in the things they were doing or places they were going to.

We had quite a few friends our own age in the cong', children of the 'better off', & mum would ask them over for tea so at least we had plenty of socialising.

Once mum & dad invited our friends & their parents to Sunday lunch. I remember mum was in the kitchen making sure the sack full of potatoes she had in the oven were roasting ok & the veg & the gravy were going to be ready in time with the joint of meat.......you know all the 101 things to needing to done all at the same time. (my mum's roast diinners were the best!)

I suppose there were over a dozen sat around the large table waiting to for the food to be brought out.

Whilst my parents were working flat out in the kitchen next to the dining room getting every thing ready, the other kid's parents were organising themselves a meal out without a thought of including my mum & dad!

Dad took it in his stride but my mother was very hurt being left out yet again.

When she tackled one of them about it at a later date the excuse was that they thought my parents wouldn't be able to afford it.

Maybe my parents could maybe they couldn't....................at least they should've included them, especially when they were sat in our home & eating the food my parents provided.

God you've got to be tough to survive in the JW's
