Confessions of a Wayward Pioneer
by Giordano infrank was concerned that they might be dumping them in the woods or something so he wanted me to check it out.. i had a hard time convincing h and h to let me join them in service, finally i dropped a few hints that i was a pretty laid back brother who didn't always follow wtbts policy......... which wasn't far from the truth.
this guy was hard core.

I celebrated my birthday today for the first time!
by doublelife ini didn't really have a party or anything, but people at work know that i'm no longer a jw and they got me a birthday cake.
my birthday is not until the 28th, but my co-workers always celebrate anyone's b-day on the 3rd wednesday of every month.
i've been giddy all day over it, though every once in a while, i'll remember how disappointed in me my parents would be.

Same here doublelife, it was my 57th birthday on Tuesday. Not celebrated for 50 years.
Didn't DO anything really, but for the first time ever I took some lovely chocolate cakes to work. It felt a bit weird but I enjoyed the extra attention!
Not having to defend the ridiculous WT birthday dogma was such a relief.

Stereotypes.
Just stereotypes.
I know not all Americans are loud.
I know not all Americans think the British will be impressed when they hear a loud American drawl.
I know not all Americans have fat backsides.
I know not all Americans come to the UK & brag about how much bigger & better everything is back home in the States.
I know this because I met some wonderful, generous & friendly Americans when visiting New England.
-------------------------------------------------
I am British &
I know some British have tattoos.
I know some British make me feel ashamed.
I know some British are lard arses.
I know some British I wouldn't be seen dead with.
However you will also find the British friendly, generous & welcoming.

Birthdays - most logical explanation...
by bottleofwater incan someone explain step by step why birthdays don't contradict the bible.. refuting the wts' evidence, including the terms explaining the account of birthdays in the book of job not referring to birthdays according to the wts' explanation?.

Birthdays (& Christmas) used to be celebrated by early BS/JW's, I understand they used to have a special places in the year book to mark in a birthday as a rminder.
I reckon the reason birthdays were outlawed by the org' was because it got out of hand as the Bethel homes grew in size & they had to come up with some tortuous reason from the bible for banning them.
Nothing to do with 'New Light' form Jah.

Children of 1975

I was also thinking I know what happened 66 to 75 I lived it as many others on this forum did.
We know the truth of what happened & debator cannot take that way from us no matter how pedantic she/he becomes.
In hindsight I cannot believe the power we allowed the JW religion to have over us.
We didn't realise at the time how clever the organisation was in keeping a get out clause for themselves which would allow people like debator to come along 35 years later & rubbish all the sacrifice, effort & resources we gave to the WBTS of Jehovah's Witnesses.
The leaders of the Jehovah's Witnesses truly are reprehensible before God.

This morning as I got ready for work I was mulling over in my mind about Terry's experience of going to prison at the tender age of 20 because refusing miiltary service or alternative civilian service in 1967.
My eyes welled up as I contemplated the bravery of such a young man.
Thank you for sharing your experience Terry it was very moving.

I'm sorry I lost it a little then.
So many sacrifices were made by individuals during the late 60's to '75 because of the outpourings of the GB/FDS, Brooklyn etc
Debator reduces the hardship caused to nothing & it is very painful.
