Who choose the elders to give talks at the Circuit Assembly and District Assembly?
by Iamallcool inhow does that work?.
-
stuckinamovement
Dozy is right,
For the SAD and Circuit assembly it is assigned by the CO, who usually picks the brothers who have been used before. The DC system has a new report card ranking that the Service Committee and the TMS overseer complete. Its funny how it all works. The rating committee will ask the brother they are ranking to step out of the room when they discuss. He returns and then the next brother leaves and the brothers rank him. There have been more than a few hurt feelings during this process.
The Branch has pretty specific criteria for DC speakers. If you have ever been divorced or have had kids leave the org you are not permitted to give a talk on family life. The instruction letter pretty much eliminates many brothers. that is why you see many of the same guys over and over again on the programs.

Lack of true friends as a Witness
by stuckinamovement init was kind of a sad realization i had the other day that as a witness you are conditioned to not have friends.
i realize that most of this fact is related to my own stupidity and arrogance.
when i was in my teenage years i had a great group of friends that i ran around with.

Thanks for the comments. In my opinion the Society's beliefs cripples a person socially. Here is a test for anyone who feels that they do have true freinds in the organization. Tell your friend openly and honestly what you think about the Watchtower organization. See what happens.
That is why these message boards are so valuable. There are many here on this board who are still in the organization but are totally alone with no true friends on the outside and only acquaintances on the inside. This is the only place I have found where I could openly question my beliefs without fear of retribution. Pretty sad isn't it, that the best support a Witness with doubts could find is an anonymous message board on the internet?
Watchtower and Governing Body you have failed as an organization. The "sheep" can't go to you for help without fear of being beaten and thrown out of the pen. You are losing members right and left, you are losing lawsuits in every nation and you are throwing millions of dollars away publishing material that is read by few. Your predictions and teachings are subject to change at a whim. Your credibility is gone. Stop pretending to be something you are not.
Whew that felt good.

It seems like a pretty clear cut case of copyright violation. I am glad that the Watchtower will be held legally accountable.

When I was in my teenage years I had a great group of friends that I ran around with. Unfortunately many of them decided to leave the organization or were forced to leave. That resulted in my being left alone and being forced by the religion to turn my back on these old friends. So the guys that I had grown up with me were jettisoned away in a show of self righteousness. I was forced to lose contact with them because many of them were disfellowshipped. Many of them were rightfully pissed at me for casting them off as freinds.
Years went by and I was appointed as an Elder. Due to my own stupidity and position as an Elder I never developed real friendships with anyone simply because I was supposed to have all of the answers and be a stellar example. Many Witnesses will scrutinize your conduct as an Elder and then beat you if you do not live up to their expectations. So I did not want anyone to see that I was not as perfect as I pretended to be. "Keep your distance and it is harder to be screwed over", I thought. I was worried that if I became too close to someone, how would I be able to fulfill my job as an Elder and perhaps one day disfellowship someone I really liked? The other side of the coin is that many people are standoffish from the elders for good reason. They don’t want to get counseled or disciplined for piddly ass stuff.
Now that I am on my way out of the cult, too slowly I might add, it struck me that as a Witness you are among the loneliest people on earth. You can’t trust anyone with your true thoughts about the religion, you can’t make outside friendships without being counseled or looked down upon, and if you decide to leave outright, you lose the few friendships that you have had, superficial as they might be. Normal things that a person might do with his buddies, such as concerts, backpacking, ballgames are discouraged because of the time it takes away from the ministry.
The Witnesses will brag about how “Nowhere else will you find friendships such as are found in in God’s organization”. It’s true. You will never find a group of people as judgmental, paranoid, and superficial as Jehovah’s Witnesses.

The reason I ask is it is pretty clear to most people, (even witnesses) that Harold Camping is a nut, with a lot of nutty followers. Once a Witness can see the similarities it could be powerful in getting them to examine their own history.
Here are some things I noticed.
Both Groups have a worldwide ministry in fulfillment of Matt. 24:14
Both feel that they have a lifesaving message.
Both use Bible Based chronology
Both Groups seem to have good moral people attached.
Both feel that they alone will be spared from destruction.
Both feel that the world around them is degenerating and is a sign of the last days.
Both feel that God has manuevered things so they can share in the warning work.
Both can't question the teachings of their leader without causing offense to God.
Any others??

The GB tightening their grip! Straw to break a camel's back?
by punkofnice ini post on a couple of forums and read and lurk and all that stuff.. a theme that seems to be gaining momentum is about how the gb are 'tightening their grip' and 'becoming more cultish'.. i don't read the publications anymore and oddly i read extracts of them on the forums.. punk is babbling now.............sorry...................my questions are (sorry if they're a bit long.
sorry if i sound like satan: 'is it really so?
' but then i am a mentally diseased apostate).. 1. are the gb really tightening their grip or is it just the same as it ever was........but..........we just notice the propaganda more now we're out?.

In my opinion the demand that they are making for obedience and adoration is waking a lot up. I could not believe how blatant it is getting. forecasting the trend of the increasing demands for worship of the "slave". I have a feeling that the next few months publications, and conventions will further the awakening.
Bottom line it is a bunch of old white dudes and a token brother pretending to be spirit directed. There is no evidence that shows they have God's Spirit or are in any way different from the other Clergy men of the world. The fact that all of the old boys have come and gone and there is the GB 2.0 has also made an impact on a few.

How HIGH did you climb the ranks as a JW? Did you like the STATUS?

Pioneer, MS, Elder for 7 years. Had every job on the body except for COBOE. Some assembly parts, one DC part. RBC trade overseer at one time.
I didn't do it for the status but really thought I was helping people. Being an elder though is what made me see the cancer within the org.

I agree with James Woods. I think that Steven's efforts are laudable but they will be overshadowed by the religious rhetoric. The branch and headquarters probably have already come up with what they think is a winning defense. If nothing else they will throw the publishers under the bus and say "we did not direct them not to get the cards" ,"each one is responsible for his or her own qualifications as ministers."
Still, every bit of light that is publicly shed on this corrupt organization is a good thing.
