Once you realized the organization is simply a religious corporation, how did you leave?
Did you fade?
Were you forced out?
How did you adjust to life on the outside?
Do you still have social or family connections within the organization?
What did you do to supplant the lost friends, routine, and sense of purpose?
Your experiences are appreciated.

SMART phones: I got my first iPhone
by Terry infor my birthday, my daughter (who works for apple) got me an iphone.. yes, i was using an old motorola flip-phone until now...like a geriatric captain kirk.. and i wondered why people had been giving me those strange looks before.... .
anyway, imagine my reaction to the mammoth technology contained in an iphone.. talk about a miracle, this qualifies.. i'm particularly impressed by the onboard gps.
i can type in a destination and the phone already knows exactly where i am and will plot a destination map onscreen.

How much longer will 1914 be preached??
by OneDayillBeFree inwas in the city today and saw an old factory with the year of its beginning painted on the wall saying "since 1914", and thought "thats a long time ago".. i believe the teaching of 1914 will slowly fade away and be forgotten in about 10-15years, give or take... it's seriously starting to lose its touch.. millions now living will never buy it.... but since it's a hardcore doctrine of jdubbies and the watchtower used to pinpoint the coming of jesus(invisible), the start of the famous "last days", the 144,000 and part of the reason the govering body have their power, they will have to find a damn good explanation and another alternative.
.
or it could just remain unchanged.... .

I was wondering the same. Even my awakening wife has said, "somethings gotta give in 2014 now that we are 100 years into the reign."
Despite this fact I agree with the posters who say that the Society will hold fast to the date. The past 100 years has been spent proclaiming Christ's presence. If they were to back away from it doctrinally it invalidates all of the work over the past century to advertise an event that never happened.
I was looking at the header ( Reasons for publishing) in the Watchtower magazine the other day and noted that 1914 is not mentioned anymore. Does any one know when that change was made?

Dozy,
Good point. It seems as if they are laying the groundwork for a major change. 144K as a symbolic number would be a likely change, I think that it is inevitable. There are more and more annointed partakers but fewer and fewer in brooklyn leadership positions. The Society has done such a good job of closing the doors of the heavens that there are very few suitable successors to the GB 2.0.

Motives for starting the lie of Watchtower Authority.
by marriedtoajw ini have yet to come across anyones opinions, jw or not, of the personal motives of the leaders of the org.
to perpetuate what i guess we all would call the lie of the watchtoer authority.
in my opinion, i think that russell was an athiest out to show how easy it is to decieve people using the bible.

I think it became one of those things that the leaders feel is "too big to fail". I am sure that the GB does not believe everything they publish yet they have painted themselves into a corner with their assertions of Christ given authority. Seriously, this weeks study had the sentence " Today Christ uses the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses to direct his earthly congregation".
Today, you have 7 million people putting their trust in a corporation disguised as the one true religion. The GB knows it is a sham and because they are cowards and love the power they have over people they can't see their way to correct it.
Russell was sincerely nuts. Rutherford was a power hungry drunk. Knorr wanted to build a company. Franz was on par with Russell but with a darker side. The Current leadership are evil cowards who pretend that God uses them as his special representatives on earth.
I cannot get over the irony of how the one true religion directed by God is actually a corporation in Brooklyn that uses the scriptures and self appointed authority to control the minds of many.

Active JW understands flaws in WTS doctrine but believes in the Bible
by flamegrilled inperhaps this is a common topic for newbies on the site, but i have browsed for a while and not seen this exactly answered.. as an active jw who understands the flaws in wts doctrine, but believes in the bible, how do i identify a form of worship that meets all the criterea:.
1) by this all will know you are my disciples if you have love among yourselves (john 13:35).
sure i know that not all jws do this, and that people from other religions or non-religious people do this also, but as an official doctrine jws will not kill one another in war, and in general there is a genuine effort to exercise "agape" love not widely found in the world at large.. 2) preach the good news.
