When Elder's Fade
by zack inas a publisher, still buying the wt line that they were god's sole channel and any problems, doubts, etc... i had were all a product of my own lack of.
wisdom and or humility or failure of application, i would be shocked and puzzled at how long-time elders would resign and then fade away.
i would wonder: what could have happened.

When you step down as an elder many people automatically assume that you have been screwing around, or were addicted to porn, or other rubbish like that. I know this because when I told my wife I was planning on stepping down, she said that was one of the things I should prepare for.

Pissing On JWs That Are Geuninely Searching Here
by minimus ini just want to say something about witnesses who come here just to try to rebel rouse as opposed to jws that come here and are "searching" or are "active" members in the organization but are reading info on this site.. there's no reason to "beat down" witnesses just because they still go to meetings and we don't.
i've seen some insulting words against present elders and it's unnecessary and judgmental, in my honest opinion.
some jws like to spar with us on this board and it's a losing effort for them in reality.. who knows when or what will make someone actually leave the tentacles of the organization.

Thanks Cantleave,
"groan" you mean "Mr. Herman's doo"? Everyone is in a different stage of exiting. I think it is important to allow us to proceed at our own pace. we all have different circumstances and ways of approaching the problem. That's fine in my opinion. This board is invaluable to the process. I can say with all honesty that when letters are leaked or reports are made ie. the annual meeting, the resulting discussion is very interesting. You have a tremendous mix of viewpoints and perspectives that count for a lot.

I must say that I appreciate all of the view points expressed on this board. I am still serving (planning on stepping down shortly after the km school) and working on getting several family members to see the truth for what it is. Serving as an elder has given me more credibility in this effort. I refuse to sit on any committees, and will not teach something that I do not feel is true. It is a tough position to be in and having the non judgmental support of the fellow board members means a lot.
With that said, it is nice to see that there are people who are just like me in various stages of leaving the org. Cantleave is an inspiration to me by the way he did it. MLE has a moderate view, and Elderelite is in a tough spot also. I guess the main point of what I am trying to say is; the beauty of this board is that it is populated by people who are thinking for themselves now. Let's give each one the chance to reach their own conclusions about the org and their own involvement without judging them as evil hypocritical people.
This is the only place that I have seen in my life where those who are "still in" are able to question their beliefs without fear of retribution. I came here so I could question things without being criticized and or judged as being evil and hypocritical as I would have been within the congregation. SIAM

How Being a Witness made you Lose out on Higher Education and Careers
by flipper inhi, folks.
been thinking of this, because of having been raised in the witnesses.
i reflect back on opportunities i would have encountered and seized, had it not been for being controlled by the witness organization being told higher education was not needed.

I look back and am disappointed that I did not go to college but instead pioneered right out of high school. I would have loved to be a lawyer. However (for myself) being a witness and participating in the tms has helped me get many of the jobs I have had. The field ministry taught me how to present myself, how to speak in a convincing manner, how to find common ground with people. I also learned how to study and apply knowledge. Looking back I wish that I had gotten a degree, but feel that being a witness gave me marketable skills that helped me to launch my career. I have a great executive level job with benefits and retirement in a stable segment of the economy.

When are the last days spoken of in the scriptures?
by stuckinamovement ini have been doing a lot of thinking lately and have pretty much come to the conclusion that all of the prophecies concerning the last days were fulfilled in the 1st century.
that explanation is the only one that makes sense.

Thanks Sir82,
I was reading a link somewhere that talked about how it used to be the majority view that Revelation was written in the AD 60's before the destruction of Jerusalem. The paper talked about how the beasts described in revelation were the roman emporer's. I believe the term used for people who believe that Revelation was written before 70CE was preterist?
That sure seems to fit with the pattern. Billy is right, the last days last, and last, and last.

I have been doing a lot of thinking lately and have pretty much come to the conclusion that all of the prophecies concerning the last days were fulfilled in the 1st century. That explanation is the only one that makes sense. The generation of Matt. 24:34 literally saw the end of the Jewish system of things, there was a period when they cried "peace and security" after the Romans retreated in 66-70 CE, there is evidence that there were wars, earthquakes, celestial phenomena, famines etc. all between 33 CE and 70 CE. The preaching work was completed across the whole earth as shown in Acts.
The Watchtower Study yesterday quoted Acts 2:16,17. Peter clearly stated that Joel's prophecy was fulfilled at Pentecost 33 CE. In Peter's own wordsthose were the last days.
Also when you look at when the scriptures were written, all of the warnings about the end times were written before 70 CE with the exception of John's writings. There is a pretty good case to make that John's letters and revelation are simply misdated. How else can you explain the silence of the bible record since the 1st century? If there was to be a second fulfillment would there not be additional inspired writings? (not spirit directed, but inspired)
I think that many people read into the bible what they want to see. They want to see the wicked destroyed, and conditions to be better. When you have a desired outcome it becomes easy to interpret the Scriptures to your own time to match up with what you wish to see happen.
Jw's and other denominations have been trying to twist and bend the prophecies that were fulfilled 2,000 years ago to fit modern times. It simply will not happen. Parts of history are bound to repeat itself but as a whole the end times prophecies were clearly and completely fulfilled in the 1st century.
What are your thoughts?

it felt like a combination of chanting and stepping on a cat.

I stopped trying to sing the songs last meeting. It felt like a combination of chanting and stepping on a cat. It is terrible. I prayed for holy spirit to help me sing these un-singable, nonsensical songs. Guess the prayer wasn't in accordance with God's will because I still couldn't sing em right after the prayer. I stopped and listened to the congregation and collectively it sounded like a swarm of bees...that were molested!

For those still in- why do you (really) stay, and what would it take for you to leave the org?
by serenitynow! infor the so-called conscious class, those of you who know it's all a disgusting lie, what is the real reason you stay in?
i find it hard to understand how ones who know what the org truly is would continue to be an active jw.
i'm not talking about the "faders"- those with an actual plan to get out as painlessly as possible.

MLE said "sort of get the feeling Fred Franz was one of those nuts at the bus stop that you made the mistake of making eye contact with, and you vowed never to make that mistake again."
LOL that is the best description of the man that I have ever heard.
