Still listening at 26:52... any moment now I'm expecting him to start talking about "precious bodily fluids" à la Jack D. Ripper

Watchtower Talk Removed From YouTube As "Shocking And Disgusting Content"
by DT inthere was a youtube video that contained an excerpt of ciro aulicino's talk "you will be with me in paradise".
at some point it was removed by youtube.
it now shows the message, "this video has been removed as a violation of youtube's policy on shocking and disgusting content.".

I'd never heard this talk before, just managed to listen to "You Will Be with Me in Paradise." Aulicino's opening comments about homosexuals and lesbians alone would qualify as Hate Speech here in Canada.
The amount of thought and reflection he's put into the wholesale dismantling of human society speaks of a social misfit who's spent a lot of time alone with his thoughts. His fascination with morbidness (decomposing bodies, anyone?) and the relish with which he relates it is disturbing.
...
The silver lining here is that he lived at Bethel instead of a remote cabin in a wooded area.

Things you did to pass the time at meetings/service/assemblies/conventions/memorials
by OneDayillBeFree ini'm currently at the meeting again... i'm always in the back working the sound cause everyone else can't seem to work it and i'm mostly on my phone reading jwn or writing, or doodling or sometimes i just stare at the audience to see who's falling asleep or daydreaming.
its really the only way i can still sit through these things.. but i remember getting the number of a girl i used to like at one district convention and we would text each other during the program and talk about how boring it was.. i also remember sneaking out of a circuit assembly and going to see a car show that was going on right next door.
that was fun!.

I would've left a long time ago if I hadn't been involved with Public Address at the Kingdom Hall, Circuit and District assemblies. The distraction of it all made the meetings/sessions easier to bear. I used to hope for "catastrophic failures" (like when our Kingdom Hall's mixer blew its fuse but no one knew how to change it) for a chance to do something different, even shine a little.
And when that wasn't enough, Public Address was was such a perfect "out" for me: anytime I felt like getting up to "check a speaker", "trace a line" or whatever -which meant anytime the boredom was too much to bear- I just did. With an SPL meter or 2-way radio in hand and a purposeful walk, no one questions you; attendants actually get of out of your way.
Unfortunately, all this only works for men. The last year I was still "in" was the year my wife and I got married. I felt guilty, being able to escape whenever/wherever I wanted to (key: always carry a clipboard... works like a charm) and she'd be left back at our seats, having to sit through it all. No escape for the womenfolk (unless they've got children, I guess). Misogyny in action!
Having "done sound" since I was 12 I often wonder, had I had to sit still (and stare at ceiling tiles) like everyone else, if I would've woken up to the nonsense of it all much, much earlier.

Sex Before Marriage
by Wishididntknow inhow many witness couples percentage wise do you think slip up and have sex before wedding day?
did you?.

My wife and I are in the minority who waited. (Not to say we didn't engage in fairly frequent "heavy petting," whatever that means.) And despite previous comments, it wasn't due to any 'incompatibility' between us - after a few years of marriage we remain as well-matched as ever.
Waiting wasn't all that bad; we got to use the Kingdom Hall and exchange vows in front of Flying Spaghetti Monster and 100 people we no longer care about (besides family).
On second thought, the only 'restraint' we should've used before marriage involves a silk scarf or two...

Excellent film. Ben Affleck does well on both sides of the camera; if you enjoyed the Town, consider watching Gone Baby Gone.

ex-witness to atheist
by Itsallwrong inhey all i was a witness most of my life in the lansing area of michigan.
i've glanced at online communities like this before but mostly shyed away from them because after leaving the organization i became an atheist.
i'm not ashamed of it by any means, but these forums and websites seem to be mostly filled with folks who are still religious but just don't agree with the governing body's methods.

Ever hear an experience at an assembly that you KNOW was slanted?
by Bonnie_Clyde ini remember one at a district assembly.
a brother was being interviewed as to why he never chose over time work at his job.
he said he worked for a small printing company and that he was content with working regular hours.

I once attended a convention where a sister from my hall - a busty, petite girl - was interviewed on her dress & grooming. At the KH, she was known for her tight sweaters and skirts with high slits -besides what went on behind closed doors, the cause of several private reproofs- but on the platform of a 15,000-person convention, she was the image of modesty. She told of how meticulously she'd pick out her clothes, checking herself in the mirror, asking her mother's advice, etc etc.
Bullshit.
I remember thinking how, outside her congregation, 14,900 people had no idea what she was really like: how many mothers would be telling their daughters to be "more like that girl at the convention" when picking out their clothes the next day?
And that's when I was still in, gung-ho and all. But the stench of it all started to rise from that day on.

What percentage of assmbly experiences are total fabrication?
by NoRegrets inwhen i was in 4th grade, i ended up in a situation involving minor school politics.
they had developed a "student council" which did little more than sell pencils at lunch time for fundraisers.
anyway, i was appointed by the teacher and didn't think much of it as an 8-9 year old.

I remember being interviewed on my Bible reading habits - don't ask me why I was singled out for this, but I was. In any case, when my actual study habits weren't up to what interviewer was hoping for, I was told to relate "what I'd like them to be" as if they actually were, because according to him, "this isn't just an interview - it's a teaching part. We're teaching the brothers what we'd like them to be doing, too."
And on that basis, I stood in front of 1,200 unsuspecting people, and spewed a fabricated version of reality.
