the fight for gay marriage mainly affects the children of gay people so its an important fight since many of these kids live in a state of limbo.
personally, i just want basic human rights like littlerockguy says.

don't we cover this subject a bit too often on this board. i mean go back and read 100 other threads about rights, the gay agenda etc.
but then i'm reading it aren't I.
Gays don't have more rights or enjoy more tolerance now because of a few men and women in a room in Virginia plotting an overthrow.
Gays have empowered themselves. Through the march on Washington in 1987, 1993 (I was at that one) and 2000, they found out that they weren't alone or isolated. Our minds were boggled by seeing how many of us there were.
This in turn led us to be braver about coming out to our friends, workmates and families. The more of us that came out. They more our associates sought to understand us. The more they understood us, the less they feared us.
Society is changing in many ways. It views blacks, women, the handicapped and a number of other groups totally different now than it did before the 1960's. What a decade!
It also views homosexuals differently due maintly because it knows so much more about us now.
Am I happy that I am gay? You play with the cards you are dealt. I was never asked if I would rather have blonde hair, a higher metabolism, steadier nerves or a host of other Joel attributes either.
Why am I gay? I have theories. I do believe it is a mixture of nurture and nature neither of which I had any control over. I tend to think nature is the more dominant. As I have said on here before I simply cannot think of a type of treatment by my mother or father that would have led me to start sticking stuff up my butt when I was 10. My father is ignoring me, why that shampoo bottle looks like it could come in quite handy during my bathtime tonight.
Most gay people simply don't have the time for an agenda. We are too busy living. It would be nice not to be afraid of losing my job, but I wouldn't want to work for someone that didn't want me there anyway. I guess it would be nice to marry, but for Mitch and I it is irrelevant, we've been together 17 years and everything is in both our names.
The real negative effect of denying gays their rights both affect children. It affects children who are gay and the children of gay people. In both cases the nastiness hurts them the most, exponentially more that it hurts gay grown ups.
Most gay kids have straight parents. So in the end they are simply hurting their own progeny.

Do you think that Armaggeddon is "near" or many, many years away?
by booker-t ini am 40 years old and i have been hearing the same old song by jw's "armaggeddon is around the corner" since i was a toddler.
it has to come to their minds that how long are they going to keep saying that armaggeddon is "near" or "around the corner"?
or they eventually going to quit believing in this fantasy and look at reality?

Blondie has the right idea. The present is the only thing we can affect and for most of us our affects are small, but they can cause ripples.
Enjoy today and make your part of the world a happier place.

Are humans more animal like then we admit?
by free2beme inas an experiment, i dare anyone to go out on to the street and make eye contact with someone.
not just for a few seconds, i mean, look at their eyes and don't stop as they walk closer and pass by.
i would bet, that a large percentage of the men would ask you what your problem is, and ask you if you have a problem with them.

well, we aren't vegetables or minerals, so that would leave animal

CHEATING ON FIELD SERVICE
by chuckyy intowards the end of my time as a jw, i must confess to cheating whilst out on field service.. 1. i would turn up at the field service arrangement with my wife, and we would say that we were working together that day to do return visits.
as everyone went out, we would simply get into our car and drive home.
(hypocritical i know).

toward the end of my witness career, it all seemed so pointless that I just didn't hand in my time. to actually be going door to door and talking to people 90 hours a month as a pioneer would have been exhausting. i always thought time was irrelevant. the only thing i thought was really productive was bible studies, so i spent my energy on that.

12 years ago this week I lost my dear friend Ira to AIDS. It was the end of a torturous 5 years of watching him slowly turn into a ghost of himself.
I met Ira when I was attending the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. We were both in the same Marketing Class. It was early in the year of 1988. I watched Ira intently all semester. I watched his hand movements and the way he walked. I studied him. On the last night of class I went up to him and asked him if he wanted to get a coke at the boat house. He must of thought I was a little nuts since I hadn't spoken to him all semester until now. But Ira said sure. That's the kind of guy Ira was. He had a big heart. I guess he saw something in my eyes that told him I needed something from him.
As we sat there over cokes, my heart beat 1000 beats a minute. This was a terrifying experience for me. I probed Ira with questions trying to determine if I was correct in my assumption about him. Oh you have a degree in French? Thats a good sign I thought. Oh you've done work on a broadway show? A very good sign. No wedding band. Good sign. So I took a leap. A leap over a chasm I had been staring at for 20 years. I said, Ira, I'm gay! And he said, so am I. A simple verbal transaction that changed my life forever.
We became friends. We both loved tennis. We played most Sunday mornings while his partner was playing piano at a church. We ate lunch together a couple of times a week. He listened to me patiently as my feelings poured out. Then a few months later I told him I was going to Key West to try and have my first experience. He was concerned that I wasn't ready for that yet. But I went and met Billy and kissed Billy and took the next step down the road.
I left Jacksonville and moved to Atlanta later that year, leaving Ira behind. Then in April of 1989 he talked me from the hospital in Jacksonville to tell me that he had AIDS and was scared to death. I talked with him often during the following months and then his partner got transferred to Atlanta and Ira reentered my life. We spent many good times with Ira and Bill, listening to their stories about alternative treatments and regimens and positive thinking workshops. But AIDS was winning. Ira became a pale thin reflection.
Then he was bedridden and quickly after that we got the call that he was in the hospital. We spent several nights there with Ira and Bill's other close friends and Ira's parents keeping vigil. Then he was unconscious.
Then we were in his room watching the heart monitor record his ever slowing heart beat, 45, 32, 21, 12 beats a minute. We each held on to Ira as his heartbeat slowed. Then there was none. He was gone. What a tremendous loss. My angel Ira.

Because They Treat People Like Sh*t!

sorry, they have always treated people like this and they have experienced tremendous growth.
the difference is that sociologically, people expect to be treated better now that they did in the past.
people have changed, the society hasn't.
