  This reminds me of the time I was studying with a guy who was a little too eager. He admitted to me he was having a masturbation problem. He had been living with this girl, they moved out from each other when they got into studying, and he was having a tough time not getting any on a regular basis.

  I advised him not to sweat it. I didn't need to know about it and he could keep it to himself. I always felt that any of the brothers that I talked to (single) that claimed not to do it, were probably the biggest wankers of all. I can't imagine why the GB had such an obsession with masturbation and wracked so many people with guilt about it. I remember all of those ridiculous stories that it would lead to homosexuality etc... what a pile of crap.

  I look back and realize as I am older now (early 30s) that your libido eventually balances itself out. In youth, your hormones truly rage. Masturbation was definitely a way for the body to test itself out.

  Top STUPID criticisms of the WTS

  there are certainly enough valid criticisms of the wts and the jw religion, but a significant number of often-repeated criticisms of the religion are, imnsho, just ludicruous and serves to take attention away from the real issues.

  significant problems with the wts includes, but are not limited to, the shunning policy, the blood issue and of course the corporate policy of hiding child molestors.. here is a list of criticisms of the wts that i find particularly annoying to see:.

  russell was a freemason (or, even worse, the wts is part of some other large-scale conspiracy like the illuminati).

  Great thread JanH - definitely got all of the board members out of the woodwork and thinking.

  Lisa: I can really appreciate what you mean about the followers making a personal choice when they decide to shun. I have made it known to my family that when they choose to invite or not invite me to a wedding, to speak or not to speak, etc that they are making a personal choice. I refuse to let them fall back on the "you know what the organization says" line. It definitely causes a twinge in them when I let them know I won't accept a cop-out reason and that I deem decisions to be made as personal choices.

  I am comfortable with the word cult. When I have spoked with current members in private and their worries about leaving are not centered on displeasing God, but rather on the fears of wasting years of their life, their routine and their social circle, to me that demonstrates an extreme devotion to an organization that dictates all facets of life and determines to keep it's members by hook or crook.

  Since when is the "generation" teaching insignicant? It was used to motivate people to alter their lives and decisions regarding employment, education etc by stressing that time was getting short as these people approached their 70s and 80s.

  Why was this "new light" on "this generation" revealed AFTER there was no possible way it could be fulfilled. You must admit the chain of articles stretching and extending the length of a generation and what a person who lived in 1914 would've had to have seen has been a focal point of the Witnesses for ages.

  I expect you to conveniently sidestep this as you do all other issues you do not want to tackle.
