i've been hearing a lot about shunned j.w.
's having to sit in the back of the kingdom halls when they go to meetings.. so, what would happen if a new bible study person went to the kingdom hall for sunday meeting, (or whatever) and sat in the back of the hall, and talked to the shunned j.w.'s?
also, are there always shunned j.w.
Undercover, that last experience you gave shows the absolute absudity of the policy and the social paralysis they attempt to impose on their membership.

I remember attending a couple of meetings when first DFed. Coming in just as the meeting started and having the elders reserve a segregated chair at the back was meant to be humiliating. I went to a meeting or two and complied, then immediately stopped going. The shunning like that actually shocked me to my senses as to how silly it was that one was treated like a leper. It was obscene and I decided I wouldn't subject myself to that. I continued praying and studying the Bible only for months on end asking God to set me straight. I was surprised at the answers and conclusions I came to (no apostate material involved to influence the decision).
Years later I went to my brothers wedding. I think there might've been some concern about me sitting at the front of the hall. As if I wasn't going to sit with my family? I didn't walk in late. I mingled around the hall a long-time beforehand. It was a little weird, but overall not too bad. If I were ever to attend a meeting in the future (not likely, but maybe to audit it for some reason, or to go see my brother give a public talk) I would not sit at the back nor would I wait until just before the meeting started to enter the Hall. Why act the part of pariah to suit them? I wouldn't be disrespectful or disruptive and I wouldn't make it a point to avoid eye contact with anyone or anything like that. It's all rather sad. Imagine what Bible studies etc would think seeing the shunning - it should mandatory for them to see it to know what they were getting into.
.
that was recently build they put speakers in the toilets so that you wan't miss anything from the "spiritual food", even when mother nature calls you!!!.
so you are trying to take the sh.t out of it and you hear brother faithfull telling you how faithfull we should be to the organization, and the provisions we had from fds.. does anyone have any simillar expierience on this forum
I used to turn down the volume...
in the wt article 15 december 2003 the wt tried to set a new date for the end, by connecting the sign of the end given by jesus when he used the exampe of noah.
noah preached for 120 years and then the end came.
so simillar it will be during the last days when they started in 1914 with jesus taking the throne in heaven.
IMHO I think if they do go ahead with 2034 as speculative prophecy (and I don't think they will), it will definitely not be in print. Instead it will be via suggestion from the company men (ie. COs and DOs) who will start to spread that message via public talks etc. They (WTS) know all too well that they will be held to reckon for anything they put in print in the future because of easy access to information.
That's basically why I doubt they will do anything to propose another date. They seem to be saying more recently that Bible Prophecy (TM) is best understood AFTER it has been fulfilled. In other words they are prepping the masses to be on their toes.
"We aren't giving you a date, but watch out! Prophecy has said the end is coming sometime soon. We won't know in advance exactly when, so you don't want to be caught off-guard at all - we'll know after it happens."
This is about the only approach they can take. If they point to any sort of date at all, there will be hell to pay when it doesn't come true. But they need something to keep the publishers motivated (in fear). So their only option is really to keep saying "real soon now" and that there WON'T be any specific warning of a particular date to work towards. In the long run some people will get weary of this. Others can be kept under fear. I think they probably publish a lot of articles about how various judgements came about in the past without specific warning. They will turn the heat up on the publishers with the unknown that could strike at any time - they can't work the other date specific angle anymore - it's too risky to their already shaky credibility internally. You can't raise paranoia levels too much either without people freaking.
i think i'm partial to wild turkey but i do like jim beam (black label).
i used to like jack daniels but they've lowered the proof so i refuse to buy it now.
one of my friends is convinced they both taste like piss...i don't quite understand that...i mean they both do what they're supposed and they don't taste bad to me....any preferences out there?
I received a bottle of Single Barrel Jack Daniels - now I can hardly drink Wild Turkey, regular Jacks. Jim Beam is my fave bourbon. Straight up.
you may want to have a look at these pictures.
they're of that hall that is being talked about here: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/10/76089/1.ashx.
when i saw this, i couldn't help but remember of that doctrine that would go like 'the waters of babylon, the great, will dry out and she will see her end', remember?
Too cheap to pay a real estate agent, are they?
number 1 son, simon, is now living in coventry with his beloved lady and his little lad, charlie.. yesterday, hl and i went to visit them.
it's only a 2 1/2 hour run, so we just popped up for lunch.. while we were eating our lunch by the window, we spotted several people walking slowly up the street.
i said to simon: "them's witnesses!
Then in justification, she asked me if I couldn't overlook them having made just one mistake!
It's really sad isn't it, when they want to believe something so badly that they are willing rationalize and excuse things so eggregious, isn't it? The consequences of accepting that the WTS is a false prophet and merely a publishing company are just too great to accept for most JWs. My brother made a good point the other day that to them, that is proof in of itself that it must be the truth (ie. it not being the truth would be far too painful to accept and hence can't even be a possiblity). I too met some nice sisters who called on me and I truly felt bad for them when we got into that discussion on 1975.
.
if you live in a city where this movie is still playing in theaters, check it out!
great movie, one of the best i've seen in a long time.
Ditto - probably my favourite of the year.
for the last 2 1/2 years of my jw experience, the kh was always saying how they had no money to pay the bills.
they started holding "dollar days" at the meetings to get donations (the idea was everyone brought a dollar a meeting on top of their normal donation).
finances reportedly got so bad that they had to decide to buy oil for the furnace, or plow the driveway one winter.
I never had a problem with the call to meet the congregation's needs as far as Kingdom Hall upkeep etc. After all, if you are going to be part of a community and using the facilities, you should be supporting them.
HOWEVER, I did have a problem with 2 things:
1 - There would be the cry from the platform that we were in the red and needed to make up a deficit, yet as mentioned previously, the donation to the Society ALWAYS went regardless of whether there was money or not. Huh? Same deal at the assemblies with regard to paying the WTS $10K or some stupid number and then announcing on Sunday at noon there was a shortfall.
2 - The fact that the WTS took over ownership of the Kingdom Hall's, and that they charged interest to the local halls on the loans from the Building Fund when in fact that friggin' money came from donations in the first place. That to me was the sign things were a major scam. It was so far removed from the original model Russell set up of autonomous congregations.
