  a story for easter sunday (aka grab a drink and pull up a chair)

  this is probably going to be a doozy of a post, as i'm no good at giving the abridged version of stories lol especially when they are about me.

  lol i tend to give too many details and not get to the point, but i'll do my best to keep things as short as possible.. that being said, i have finally decided to give you all my background story.. i was born into the organization.

  cameo-d - I honestly couldn't have said it better myself. Our family has never been a close-knit family. We pretend, but the reality is far from it. I've never really felt accepted by either of my sisters. I used to be hardcore attached to my mother, but over the years I have come to realize the reality of our relationship and that it was not as close as I thought. Obviously, my relationship with my father has been up and down. I feel as though I have finally gained his respect as an adult, although I don't necessarily feel accepted by him. My mom even admitted to me once (she claims she doesn't remember saying it) that I was always the "black sheep" of the family. Way to make me feel loved, mom. Every move I have made in life has been criticized under the harsh eye of a judgmental family.

  I have begun seeking out true friends who DO accept me for who I am and support me in my life's journey. Sighco and skywho are two such friends. I am slowly finding more (ex-jw and otherwise).

  Thank you for your supportive words :-)

  and *hugs* again to everyone who has been so nice as to give me encouragement/advice/props/acknowledgement lol

  Does Anyone Like the New Songbook?

  i'll try not to be 'knee-jerk' critical about this subject but do any witnesses like the new songbook?

  ok, they got rid of some awful lyrics about molesting bees - and downsized references to the ever redundant jesus - but the music itself sounds like forced piano practice.

  trying to sing these slow, pedantic tunes is awkward and painful.. i haven't seen any witness e-mails about this 'wonderful provision from jehovah' and his faithful hacks, so i wonder if the rank and file aren't enthused either.

  nosferatu - I did not know that!!! what a travesty!!!

  my two cents: while I don't think I've really HEARD the actual music....I don't have to hear it to know it is pure GARBAGE. I AM a musician. I learned how to play piano thanks to the old song book. I modified one of the songs for my guitar and played it at my sisters friggin WEDDING. So, for that fact alone I am partial to the old song book (even if some songs were hokey). When I was given the new song book (by the over-bearing, over-zealous sister of an ex-jw friend...ugh) I was OUTRAGED by what I saw.

  They completely gutted everything! They shortened the songs, changed songs from four short verses to two long @$$ verses, and either completely changed entire verses or "tweaked" words here and there. And for WHAT????? Some of the changes weren't even necessary to fit into "new light"!!!!

  It's like they gave the old songbook to a copy editor and creative writer, handed them a red pen and scissors, and said "have at it!"

  As has been mentioned, it is now EMPTY. Devoid of any possible emotion one could feel for God. Certain songs used to move people....whether to tears because of the hope involved (keep your eyes on the prize, etc.) or simply to feelings of love and admiration for the beautiful melodies (some were actually quite pretty).

  The new songbook makes me envision those street performers with the crank music box and the dressed-up dancing monkey. These tunes are just pathetic (apparently synthesized) cranked out songs for the mindless JW monkeys to dance to.

  DANCE MONKEY, DANCE!

  random thought/pondering

  first off, i just wanna say that i don't know how i feel about god, the bible, etc.

  i'm in a major state of confusion, as i'm just newly out of the organization and coming to realize all the lies.

  this has led to me questioning everything.. so the other day i was talking with a friend and had this interesting thought (i'll try to explain it as clear as possible without rambling or talking in circles and muddying up the concept lol).

  lol thank you everyone for your discussion and thoughts! I guess I sure picked an interesting subject :-P

  and while I don't really have the mental energy to address everyone's comments individually, I do have a major issue with one thing that was said in particular by AGuest (and no offense is meant by this).

  You CANNOT say the Bible is NOT "God's" book and then use it to argue FOR God. It is a complete contradiction and weakens the foundation for anything you say. The Bible IS the Christian source. And I guarantee you that the Bible would not apply Ecclesiastes 12:12 (to the making of many books there is no end...) to ITSELF. It would be discrediting itself, yet it claims to be an accurate book FROM God. No book that was claiming to be a credible book would group ITSELF with books that it claims are a waste of time.

  Just so you know, your "explanation" of the whole....adam/flesh/spirit/nakedness thing....kinda hokey. You might as well be trying to tell us the trinity doctrine is real.

  And also...I'm guessing that your source for the "name of Death" is the "Lord"? Again, no offense, but using your own personal "revelations" as your main source of dispensing what you perceive to be truth is not going to convince anyone that what you say IS truth. Unfortunately, it is that precise claim and reasoning that leads to the creation of dangerous cults. I just broke away from one of them. I don't need to get sucked into another. So while I DO appreciate you sharing your thoughts....perhaps you should present them more as your opinion and not as "truth", as there is no way possible to PROVE your statements. It is the same as the JW's or any other religion who uses the Bible to prove the Bible is accurate. You need more than the source in question to prove the credibility of the source.

  ziddina - I actually have briefly pondered the concept of the christian god not being the REAL god...mentally lighting upon tidbits of Egyptian history, though I certainly have done very little, if any, real research. I will have to check out the links you provided when I'm more awake, though ;-)

  i hope everyone has fluffy angel dreams with cheery pan flute music on repeat in their brains....

  man in black - thank you for the compliment on writing! I actually would loooove to be a writer. I consider myself an amateur writer/poet...and I have written songs for years as well :-) So I take it as a huge compliment when someone notices! thanks!

  The funny thing is that I used to be on those sites BEFORE they switched to charging for membership!

  They are wonderful breeding grounds for african men wanting green cards and apparently also a hotbed for cyber sex. And yet they ALL claim to be upright JWs.....interesting.....

  I actually did make a couple of decent friends on the site, oddly enough. But it was mostly just BS and I was bored LOL

  I must admit that you brought up some interesting points I had not thought of before and will certainly take into consideration. I will also admit, however, that as a person who is in the process of questioning and doubting what is and is not truth, certainly you must realize that I cannot simply accept certain things you say as fact because you claim the holy spirit told you so. No offense is meant by that statement, it's just how I feel. :-)

  I am a bit conflicted as to whether or not to agree with your personifcation of death. It is interesting to note that this darkness and death did exist prior to light and life. But you speak as though it is an individual with a will and intent (although I could be mistaken, it is simply how I perceived your words). I'm not sure I agree with that, as it would indicate again the ying/yang concept of inherent good and evil, which I was obviously raised not to believe. On the one hand, I cannot say with certainty that such a concept is INaccurate...but on the other hand, it is obviously a "new" concept for me to accept and would require more thought and meditation on my part.

  I do apologize for the misleading nature of my statement "bottom line..." I guess I was trying to say "here is the potential conclusion based on this pondering, although not necessarily THE conclusion of things". lol I was trying to get straight to the point (and thus the question therein) of my thought prior to the explanation. In my defense though, often times a statement or "conclusion" can in itself BE a question. It doesn't always have to mean itself to be fact. But, in the future, I will try to express myself more clearly. :-)

  technically i'm a plain old caucasian in america....but I like to give some props to my Hungarian hertiage, even if I know nothing about it :-P My great grandparents came over to america from Hungary, so I figure they're close enough in generations to claim it as a major part of my cultural make-up :-P

  and yeah, I looooved riding my bike...played in the sand box and climbed trees...preferred star wars action figures to dolls any day lol I was a hopeless cause for my sisters LOL

  have you tried the new chocolate cheerios?

  i didnt' think i was going to like this cereal,.

  but i decided i would go ahead and give it a try.. they are available in most grocery stores, and if you like chocolate-- they are addictive!
