Early in their careers: Music thread...

some groups were just better, earlier in their careers.

for others they got better as they moved along.

the beatles got better and better.. but for others like rod stewart for example.

I pretty much stopped keeping track after the Beatles....

BUT

Yellow Brick Road is probably my favorite album of all-time tied with Tapestry by Carole King. YBR was the backdrop of change for me - leaving JWs and leaving my first husband (former Bethelite) all at once.

Loved hearing the Rod Stewart numbers you posted - was not familiar with them - wish I could understand all the lyrics. As far as I am concerned RS is sexier and better looking now than he ever was younger......

i am curious about this issue.

personally, i never felt i would be good enough for a split second.

one would think that knowing you can not be good enough to survive would it make it easier to leave the witnesses and live for the present.

Does God (if there is a god), really expect us to figure out what's what? With the Bible, all the dissenting views, all the different religions, all the different interpretations (even withIN the Watchtower over the years), how can one possibly have undying faith in any one of them?

If faith is the prerequisite, I don't stand a chance.

here's a youtube video of the conclusion of knorr's public talk at the 1958 intl convention combined yankee stadium & polo grounds.

you know, the dc that good jws are supposed to get all tingly about when you mention that 1/4 million of them were in the same place.

the whole thing is non-remarkable, standard, "ain't the new order gonna be great" drivel.. turn the sound down.

Husband (Catholic) just popped his head in while I was listening to this.

I told him I was looking for the 11 year old me in that crowd. Told him how intense it was to have all those people in one place. How the stadium would be filled, the gates would be holding people back, and then they would be opened and all the people would stream onto the field. If you were in the upper levels it was a thrilling sight. People would clap and cheer.

So easy to get caught up. Knorr was a dynamic speaker as I remember, and you would be swept away in the moment.

You would be filled with joy, filled with spirit, filled with resolve.

But it wasn't the truth. It was the false.

onacruise - Craig Mills 1952-2011

i was given the link to a bit of information regarding on old poster/moderator of this forum.

i was not sure of the validity of the information so have been trying to find out if it is true.. earlier today craig's estranged wife, kate, (bikerchic) confirmed that craig died at his home on aug 10, 2011.. i am sure that many people here remember craig's time here and how he went out of his way to offer support to posters, even calling them, to give whatever help he could as they adjusted to their post-jw lives.. i know many people here will grieve his loss.. --------------.

ps i tried posting this earlier but the computer i was working with would not allow the posts.

I am stunned by this news, and so saddened.

I used to come here regularly several years ago and posted under another name. I have since moved on and consider myself to be an "ex exjw".

But every so often I check in, usually late at night (or very early morning) as it is now. So I have just read of this loss.

Onacruise, Craig, truly stands out in my memory as one who was kind, compassionate, and so very thoughtful. We had several discussions here on this site and, as I was struggling with making peace with the past, Craig was always willing to respond and give feedback. I remember his openness, his big-heartedness, quest for the truth and desire to sift out what was truly important. In being human one never knows the deep effect you might have on another person; Craig truly touched my heart.

This is truly a sad loss.

My condolences to Kate; you were lucky and blessed to have had him as your mate.

Oh, Burns would probably not be classified as director, probably producer or documentarian.

GREAT Civil War series. Tho I can't watch it much bc it is so tragic and I end up crying so much. Humanity is so stupid.

Tal, you are Canadian if I recall?? Maybe he would not resonate so much with you since his subjects are usually so American.
