Really? I so don't remember this. The lady I overheard was in her mid 30's. Same age as me.

Immunizations?
by crazy2try ini have a question.
today at work a woman was saying that she was upset because the foster mother of her children had taken the children to the dr and they received their immunization shots.
she told a co-worker that she was mad because they did not respect her beliefs.

Jordan, I apologize, I haven't been on line for a few days. It is late now, but I wanted to say that I read your whole post and really enjoyed it. I agree with much of what you have said and do understand your point of view. I wish I had more time to write, but will come back soon. Off the top of my head Jordan, just like there is such a variety of Brothers and Sisters in the org, we have the same here in the forum. Some have been really hurt by what they have been through and many are living testiments to the going ons within the org. I agree I have known and still do know many fine brother's and sisters who would never lie about their time, or say a cross word to anyone, and seemed very happy in their work. I always admired them and wanted to be like them. But I could not find the joy that they have, I went to every meeting, commented, went out in service, brought my children, struggled to teach them, but the encouragment from the stage that I got was do more, do more. I started to actually feel sick sitting there. There were moments I really felt like I was praising Jehovah, but it was during the songs. I began to feel like I was going to cry during each song. When I drive to work everyday, I see a beautiful sunrise and feel I can give more praise to him in those few moments then I can give in a whole meeting.
I feel the meetings should be a time where we praise God continuously and remind each other of the love that he has shared for us. I don't hear it. I don't see it. Even when you mentioned what we sent to Haiti, I am sorry, I had already started to fade, but I remember the assistence we sent to New Orleans. When I heard that we could send fellow brothers and sisters, I was so excited. Both my husband and I are medically trained, but they announced that only certain bro and sis would be allowed to go, devastated me. I knew I wouldn't qualify. And when years ago they did the same for the quick builds. Only qualified bro and sis can go in good standing. I remember as a child, that was a wonderful experience and I helped my mom pass out water to the brothers. Things have changed, at least for me. I need to feel like I am praising God, not be reminded that I need to do more.
Sorry I went off in a diff direction, Like I said I am tired and it is late. I will check back in and chat another time.

As Witnesses we were Trained to be Obedient - Rather than Show Love
by flipper ini can list many examples of this : probably the most glaring thing i saw proving this in 1982 was when an 83 year old sister died of a heart attack on the stage at an assembly part where she gave her experience then sat down next to me and died right on my shoulder on the stage.
i motioned to a brother sitting near me on the stage to help me carry her off the stage - which we did - and the brother and i behind the curtain tried administering cpr.
a registered nurse ran behind the curtain from the audience also - but the annoying thing is the elder giving the talk just kept right on talking to the 3,000 in the audience with no reference to what had just happened !

For me, one of the strongest moments of seeing this was when a woman that was studying with my mother in law was in a horrible car accident. My Mother-in-law received word that she had died. The woman had only attended a few meeting, but was very familiar with the teachings. On scene of the accident the woman told the responders that she refused to take blood to save her life.
This story was told to me by my mother-in-law two days before the woman's funeral service. I asked her if she was going to attend or go over to the family's home and in some way show some congergation support. She said "No" because the woman had not been attending regular.
I think my MIL saw the shock in my eyes. But she didn't say anything. That night I did a lot of thinking. I have always considered my MIL a wonderful woman and a witness. I was shocked.

I have a question. Today at work a woman was saying that she was upset because the foster mother of her children had taken the children to the dr and they received their immunization shots. She told a co-worker that she was mad because they did not respect her beliefs. I later asked the co-worker what the ladies beliefs were based off of. She said "She is one of those Jehovah's Witnesses and doesn't believe in getting her kids the shots."
Now am I wrong...I grew up as a witness and never heard that this was an issue for fellow witnesses. My dad (elder) mom (pioneer) had made sure that we had our shots. I made sure that my two children receive theirs.
Was the lady just looking for a something to blame her own decisions on. I'll tell ya, from what I saw I didn't see witness. Let me know if I am wrong. Cause I am going to run into her again.

Ladies- did you treat the assemblies like a fashion show?
by JimmyPage inwas the major draw for you being able to wear a new dress?
or to put your kids in cute little outfits?
surely it wasn't the mind-numbing talks..

When I was a single teen, yes the girls and I would walk around and around. Usually seeking out brothers we already knew we liked. I was pretty shy, but I remember getting a kick out of my friends telling me when someone was checking me out.
In fact my husband was one of the guys I seeked out at the convention. We hadn't seen each other in a year or so and It was so amazing when we made eye contact. That was it, we have been together since.
Now that I am older, I get a kick out of the teens. They are so oblivious to the older ones around them, unless they are one of kids that have been so sheltered that they are awkard.
We went to the convention last year, I dressed my best, but I did not buy a new outfit or wear crazy high heels. I have two kids to keep up with. LOL.

Oh I forgot....should have mentioned it in my earlier post. I did actually win a State level contest my Senior Year in school. My parents were really proud and I got a lot of praise from teachers and friends. I was surprised my senior year, because my parents had loosened the reins a little. I was allowed to go to the state competition a few hours away and stayed the night with a fellow student and a my teacher. I think they were so proud that I made it to state level.

Funny, I was telling this story to my husband the other day. When I was about 8, I opened a HubbaBubba gum package and one of the wrappers said all over it "YOU WON." So I read all the contest information. I had won either a He-Man action figure or a She-ra action figure. Well as a JW child I was not allowed to watch such violent cartoons. So I sat down on my own and wrote a letter to the HubbaBubba company explaining to them that I had won, I sent back in the wrapper, like it had said, But I explained that I am not allowed to play with these toys, so if they could exhanged them for something else less violent.
I never heard back from them. I think I am going to have to ask my mom if she remembers what happened. Maybe they called, or did send something.

Other Religions use the Name JEHOVAH too
by UnDisfellowshipped inare jehovah's witnesses really the only religion that promotes and preaches the name of jehovah?.
jw's are always claiming that they are the only religion that preaches and uses the name jehovah, and that is why only they will be saved.
for example, look at this quote from the watchtower:.

I can't remember exactly where I read it, But I remember something like it went into detail about how only consanant sounds or letters were recorded and the vowel sounds were lost and therefore we don't have the correct pernounciation.

Jamiebowers I laughed at your idea. I will have to tell my husband about that one.
What does the one post that has the only word "Marked" in it mean?
Jordan12, I asked a question, basically, What would you do? If you don't agree with others, sometimes, just posting what you would do and why, in a mannerly non-reproving fashion will add credibelity to your message and will be taken by others in a more positive manner.
My point in saying that is, well, I quit reading what you had to say cause you seemed to be attacking other posters. Though the point you were trying to make was understandable and if presented the right way makes for a good argument. So if you were counseled from the stage, the brothers would say you came off aggressive and therefore lost the respect of your audience.
yup, I'm crazy lol.......and any misspelling's I have is due to the fact I am using a touchy pc.
