From priviliged to ashamed

i just finished chapter 8 of crisis of conscience.. i used to feel humbled, but priviliged to think that jehovah drew me to his organization.

so few find it and he allowed me!.

now i feel humbled, but ashamed that i never examined the religion and got sucked in.

Ah dont be ashamed at all. Your motives were sound and I dont doubt for one second that God wasnt/isnt aware of this. I think about all this a lot at present while I'm into Ray's second book which is even more eye opening I think (and C of C blew my mind )...and I've been thinking about all those still inside who believe they are doing all they do for 'Jehovah' God unaware of how badly the Org is messed up.....

I remember reading on this forum that C of C was a MUST for all exJWs and I totally agree....if only we could get JWs to read it too...

For the JW converts- What drew you in?

wannabfree's thread about being ashamed of being suckered in to the big lie got me to thinking.

i wish my grandma was still alive so i could ask her what it was that attracted her to the jws.

she was raised methodist- our family still has a small church in her birthplace, got a degree back when it was rare for black people to do so.

I had a love for the bible and for God and wanted answers to my questions...they supplied them. I checked and double checked everything they said at first but after a while I just trusted them and stopped checking. I found the love bombing particularly impressive after my broken family life too. Pity it isnt so sincere, but like others I made some very good friends that I still miss greatly. I'm reading Ray Franz's 'In search of Christian Freedom' at the moment and he's covering this question as to how people including himself were/are attracted into the Org. His insight is remarkable.

I started taking control of my life

5 years ago when i attended my last meeting.

ever since i started making decisions, instead of waiting on jehovah, things have been happening faster for me, its weird.. all my life i was told just wait on jehovah, wait on him for a husband, wait on him for children, wait on him for a happy life.. well you know what i stopped waiting and i am happy!!!!.

yes i did get a wonderful husband (who adores my every move) while in the org.

Thats wonderful to read about your life being so good Loosie. I've turned my own around somewhat too and am back at Uni...good stuff.

Stopped smoking

...again this time i am going to stick with it.

last smoke was 24 hours ago and i instantly started coming down with cold sympthoms.

i figure i'll save 200-300 a month..

with everthing ive read here it seems like eeveryone has the attitude that they cant fix the wts.

why havent you all joined together and made a declaration of independence?

why not fix it and make a true religion of peace and jesus' message?

Frugal Ideas for a Beautiful but Inexpensive Wedding!

as i've proclaimed so loudly, my oldest son is getting married next year.

we have a small budget (about $5k) and they want a wedding with three bridesmaids, three groomsmen, and a catered reception.

thus far, my son is going to load his ipod with music.

We're going to a budget one next year which will be a BBQ afternoon which I think is a good idea. A friend of the Bride is going to do the BBQ at the venue and they are self catering salad bowls etc.

Thank you for bumping this thread CoCo ...I will go and buy this book for sure. My mother left us when I was 7 years old and I've spent most of my life trying to recover from the subsequent unhappiness ...followed by many long years in the Org, I now have a new life and I am similarly finding the person that was left at 7, with a lot of joy, but I'm always happy to gain more insight.
