let's say you're an active witness (well, you guys were, or are active witnesses) and you look around you.
practically every appliance, invention, whatever, most of the food, all the new discoveries, virtually everything was made by worldlies.
it's been that way for thousands of years.
What kind of New World are the JWs going to have when all they can do is wash windows but don't have any idea how to manufacture windows?
StAnn
Lol @ this ...dont worry there are scores of Double Glazing Businesses over here owned by JWs...they'll sort the windows!!

my wife was reading a few bits of coc and she read most of gentile times reconsidered and she says she's not buying the dates anymore and i can tell she knows it's not the truth.
she is starting to feel depressed about it and is feeling "hollow" on the inside.
she said that you can't argue all the evidence that points to 586/7bc for jerusalem's destruction and you can't separate dates from wts dogma - she finally is getting it :) historians are making stuff up to cover up 607bc.
Well done ...next step let her read some stories on forums like this ...?

so as you da'd, were df'd, faded, or just mentally let go of everything you believed for so long, did you experience this weird transition phase of an "identitylessness"?
i think this might only apply to people who were "strong" in the faith.
as a strong witness, im sure those of us who were really took to heart and mind the things that we learned and counsel that the society produced.
The elders told me Jehovah/God would leave me when they disfellowshipped me (unjustly)....it terrified me, but I kept on praying through the very difficult time that followed and I found that He hadnt gone anywhere at all.....in fact He stayed closer than ever....and from that point on I knew that it was going to be ok....

i like this site (aside from the fact that we have the jw experience in common) because i have come to realize that all of you are very creative, interesting & courageous.
it takes a special person to exit the jw's.
we all of course are also very different & thats good because we can learn from each other.
Its a grrrreat place to be ...

ok, so i finally picked up coc from my local library last night.
and started reading it like crazy.
i think i read about 70 pages which brought me close to the end of the second chapter: "governing body".
I disagree with you completely ...I loved the book and he was a humble dignified writer....stay with it ...

now that i'm out and looking back, it seems like such a dream.
i was in for 25 years.
did we really believe all this stuff?
MF 31 Yes yes yes I agree and I feel exactly as you do. How could we?

my wife is still in and no matter what logic i show her, she still wants to continue with the cult.
for me, she's a lost cause.
i explained the 607 factor and her reaction to that was "well, that isn't important to me as i still believe, plus, there's no where else for me to go.".
Good for you Carlos...will be the best decision you ever made IMHO.

the title pretty much explains it all... i don't want to go too much into my story (for paranoid fear of identification), but i have been raised in the "truth", and got baptized at a young age- too young to truly understand what i was getting into.
i still live with my parents, and as such don't want to make a move just yet, as it would destroy virtually everything i have left.
as of now though, i see myself leaning towards agnosticism.. here's my short sob story.
Welcome to the board. Its helped me enormously to come and join here ...I hope it does the same for you.
Advice ?...I think you should take definite steps to qualify asap for higher education so that you can progress to a decent fulfulling life and career. I think the steps you take depend on your parents' attitude. While you live in their home they're allowed contact with you even if you were disfellowshipped if they agreed you could stay. Maybe if you explained how you feel to them they would 'help' you fade quietly OR use the old excuse of wanting a 'break' from meetings and FS etc to allow you to fade without explanations or recriminations. If you move away it would be silly to alert another cong of your presence in the area ...self defeating really.
At the hub of your dilemma now you've seen through the 'truth' and now that you will possibly read much more about what's going/gone on behind the scenes via the internet ...is your parents. You have to decide how or whether to tell them ....otherwise you will spend years living a pretence one way or another and thats not appealing for anyone.
Its good for you that you are apparently so young ...some of us arent...I lost most of my adult life to the Org and then my 5 adult children and friends of over 30 years....I live a new life and am glad to be free but I have to cope with so many regrets....dont let it happen to you.
