My experience has been similar to NewChapter.

I was divorced in 2004, still a 'bigshot' elder....and now suddenly single in my 30's. It was terrible. It was like being red meat in a lion's cage. "Sisters" (yeah right) came out of the wood work; as young as 24....."get the elder".....its was sick...and to be honest, I think it really damaged me....

I have a file of "sisters" emails, texts, pics etc........sent to me with sex talk, pictures of boobs, etc. Many of them MARRIED.

My dating pool expanded dramatically and I came to realize there might actually be a nice girl out there..... but I'm still single and have commitment issues..... most of it from my time as an elder dealing with the many miserable marriages with 'the happiest people on earth' ......

NewChapter.....always curious.......how did you get back out there dating?

Review and Comments on the New Elders Book

i recently completed an exhaustive review of an unofficial copy of the new elders manual.

my father, who is currently serving as an elder told me a friend of his in the service department told him it was on the internet so i eagerly looked for it and found it.

yes, i know it was a violation of copyright, but while at bethel i made copies of many technical manuals which is also a copy of copyright so the wts hypocrisy does not concern me.. i was appointed as an elder the year the pay attention book (manual replaced by this one) was released so i have very good working knowledge of the old book and could compare the two books.

I appreciate the summary.....I haven't even looked at the new book.

However, your apology at the end resonated with me. I was an elder 11 years......and filled it with aout 40 of activity/"privileges".....

I still have nightmares of some of the things I did under their direction. I crushes me...... and I was considered the "loving elder"

The whole thing just makes me sick.

i had a call with a good buddy......still an elder the other night.. when i mentioned generations/overlapping.......he had no clue what i was talking about.

such a good man.......... but it doesn't matter.....they don't even realize what is being said to them; what is being done to them.

a high stature elder in their organization....and he had no clue there was another change..... how the hell does this happen?.

I've witnessed the same thing in person. MASSIVE changes to doctrine.... and I would look around to see people's faces....from the stage no less since I was the WT Conductor for 8 years......... and NOTHING........ no one even noticed!!!

Even elders I thought were intellectual.....nothing. Tuned out.

If the District Convention isn't one gigantic waste of time, I don't know what is..... its just social time.....NO ONE learns anything.

I had to give a Local Needs talk on apostasy after a DFing of a couple in our congregation in 1995 who KNEW it was all wrong. They never returned. They were smart.....

I asked this same elder on the phone how the Society was planning their rescue efforts. He said "huh?" ....I said ".....well I'm sure they are leaving the 99 sheep to chase the one.......you know, the one who KNEW this "light" was wrong a decade ago and left......now that they have proven they were right.....you're going to go get them all back, right??"

He says ".......I have to let Jehovah take care of that."

Then I said "....well even worldly publications print retractions when in error........is the WT planning that?"

Stone silence.

coffee shop guy directed me to his thread...thank you so much everyone for your thoughts of support, it means a lot to have people who understand and show genuine sympathy.

here's my experience so far.... my father dies monday night & my brother (nonjw) calls me to come home, when i arrive my father is still sitting on the couch- all the jw family is sitting in a semi-circle around him, my non jw brother is standing in the next room.

no one is crying, no one is talking.

Thanks folks....I'm just still completely floored. He had NO CLUE what I was talking about.....I was reeling off scripture after scripture and he would sit there....he clearly had no grasp of his own Bible.

I agree with the posts above..... I'm trying to wrap my mind and heart around how much I cared, how much studying I did....only to find out the mass majority do NOTHING.....including fellow elders....which I witnessed all the time. They literally couldn't quote 5 scriptures.

Its like handing your child or wife over to a doctor that has never read a medical manual and saying ......"...sure, feel free to operate on her"

He also went on to say that JW's have "never said we are the only ones that will be saved"

I just started laughing. I couldn't help it..........I just busted out full on laughing at him. I said "why are you going in field service then??"

For those that put their heart and soul into this religion.....that were passionately loyal........ is it not even more difficult to realize that all of your efforts were wasted on completely ignorant, mind numbing people who could give a rat's ass????????
