  "Dead conscious of nothing at all" .....

  when speaking to a jw the other day, i didn't really have a good explanation of ecclesiastes 9:5, where it says that the dead are conscious of nothing at all.. what is everybody's take on it?

  Even though I am no longer JW I do have a hope of living forever someday. It doesnt matter to me if it is right after death in heaven or if I wait asleep in Gods memory.

  As Neon said Ecclesiastes was written from a human standpoint not from Gods.

  We all know our Heavenly Father takes note even when a sparrow falls so of course we are not forgotten by Him. We are only forgotten by other humans.

  I think Ecclesiastes makes it clear that for those on earth being alive is better then being dead because once we die we have nothing to do with things here anymore. Not family or business or even earthly pleasures.

  For that scripture to be meaningful to anyone it would have to mean (to me that is) that living on earth is better then anyplace else.

  Sometimes now I think heaven would be ok but I have still not thought once I died I would be resurrected to Heavenly life.

  I remember what was said of these men

  *** Rbi8 2 Timothy 2:16-18 *** 17 and their word will spread like gangrene. Hymenae'us and Phile'tus are of that number. 18 These very [men] have deviated from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already occurred; and they are subverting the faith of some.

  If they were saying the resurrection already took place they must have meant the heavenly one or else everyone would have noticed an earthly one. All those formerly dead walking around you know.

  For me I just Trust in Our Heavenly Father and His Son Our Savior and Redeemer Christ Jesus to do what is best.

  What else can I do? Although many things are a curiosity and I do read the bible to see if I can find the answers. Most subjects are not pertinent to ones salvation.

  Besides I like surprises and I trust my Maker to give me the best gifts possible.

  He already gave me the best children so I know he wont fail me elsewhere.

  My 2 cents.

  more than once in my meetings/studies with jw's they have called attention to daniel 11:35.... "some of the wise will stumble, so that they may be refined, purified and made spotless until the time of the end, for it will still come at the appointed time.

  " (niv).

  i'm sure you can see how the jw's use this verse, and to keep the table open i'll withold my perspective, but please offer your thoughts.

  My thought Gig is why would that verse have only to do with the Jehovah Witness Religion?

  Why not with all Religions professing to serve The Christ?

  You see Jehovah Witnesses are very self- centered because they are an introverted society. They feel any scripture that puts Religious leaders in a good light must be speaking of Their Beloved Governing Body.

  It may be so too that the scripture does mean their Governing Body BUT also any other Religious leader of persons trying their best to serve God!

  My application to this scripture would disturb a JW as they believe their Religion the ONLY true Christian Religion.

  They separate brothers in Christ by knit picking at each Religions Doctrine instead of realizing that all religions HAVE ONE FAITH and thus are doing their best to walk on the narrow path.

  All Christianity is a restrictive way of life. That is you are with holding from yourself activities and beliefs that maybe the majority of Earths inhabitance profess to be good for people.

  All Christians are doing their best to follow the Christs teachings. Not just Jehovah Witnesses.

  My 2 cents, hope this helps a little if at all.

  SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES IN THE WT

  back in 1990 we found out with some friends(most of us left the borg) that the wt uses demonic pictures in their publicactions, specially the live for ever book... .

  when the elders found out that we had this discussion they called us and asked questions why did we had this kind of discussion... .

  i remember one of them was shouting (i thing he was possesed) and saying to us that this are what apostates are saying in order to harm the organization... .

  I am so embarrassed to say that when I went to my shelf to look up that paragraph in my old Revelation Book not only did I find the quote but also it was HIGH LIGHTED in BRIGHT PINK!!!!!!!

  I must have been so EXCITED to learn of the spiritistic practices of My Anointed Saviors of whose skirts I was clinging too!!!

  I am sooooooo happy for this sight!!!!

  If not for this forum I would have been forever lost!!!!

  making sense of report

  help....i have heard that the u.s. report in the jan 1 wt showed a 3% increase!

  the past 15 years or so never saw growth more than 1%.

  dis they change the way these figures are compiled resulting in exagerated numbers?

  When I was a study back in 1985 the Sister studying with me assured me no child baptisms like Christendom did.

  She told me only grown ups like Jesus.

  Was not until I was actually in did I witness earlier ones. Usually 14 or 15 like you said was common in the 50s.

  I do know in the 50s it was not uncommon for girls to marry as young as 16 so I can see why they may have considered it ok to take the plunge.

  One night while watching old Spin And Marty reruns Annette Funacello and Spin were sitting under a tree discussing how boys must wait till they are older to marry. So as to have gone to collage and be able to support a family, where as girls as young as 16 could wed since they did not need collage!

  My father was 16 and my mother 18 when they married.

  So being 15 and baptized in the 50s is no problem in my mind.

  Still Larc even for the 50s You Were Too Young!!!

  One thing I know they are doing is allowing young children to be baptized!!

  I personally know children as young as 11 who have been baptized.

  So if every family gets their young children to take the plunge can you imagine how high their numbers could appear!!!

  When I was a convert one thing I liked about JWs was no child baptisms.

  Seems in the name of keeping numbers rising theyve thrown good sense out the window!!

  Can you imagine Jesus at 12 having the responsibility to preach and teach?

  He was a good child I am sure but still he once got separated from his parents and worried them!

  Such underhanded tactics will cause the WT too have to lighten up on their oh so rigged rules. Otherwise they will have mass disfellowshippings someday!

  i need to know the name of an aggressive attorney in the metro chicago area that specialized in child custody cases.

  as many of you know, i am pushing to get custody of my daughter from my ex.

  after her holding out on telling me about my daughter being molested by her stepdad, i figure it's time for a change.

  Glad your enjoying this Sixof Nine! I didn't know that about Ol' George. They didn't go over that part at his home Mt.Vernon when we visited there.

  Guess they didn't think the tourists would be intrested I hate that kind of thing.

  He was a great man none the less despite how silly American's can be about ethniticity.
