'God Bless You' When You Sneeze?

we're all familiar with the wt's "history" of the origin of the phrase "god bless you" ("geshundeit" in german) in response to someone's sneezing.

the wts says it originated with the pagan belief that the soul leaves the body when you sneeze and the "bless you" is part of a superstition to protect you from demon invasion.

given that background, jw's don't say anything when someone sneezes.

My move back into the 'real world'

i recently managed to find this rather lovely forum after much digging through the dirt that is the wbts and i am very glad i did.

although i never went as far as becoming a baptised minister, i had been attending meetings for almost a year now.

so here i am, and i guess this is my attempt at saying hey :).

i was raised one of jw.

before i was born my dad joined when two jws came to our house around the same time my grandpa (my dad's dad) died.

i remember my mom telling me that my dad took this very hard.

Lisa Vegas, I don't think "education" is a major factor. Lack of information, or feeling like you can't go lower are. This happens with all similar groups, to all similar people. The sad thing is that it happens, even to people you would have never thought they could join the group.

I think in my parents case lack of education did play a big part. My dad could not read, the JW's taught him with the "Learn to Read and Write" book. My mom was 16 and a highschool drop out, with a baby the 'sisters' taught her what she needed to know to raise a child.

Do you have an annoying person who always forwards you religiouse email?

i have received in recent weeks regular religiouse email from my aunt ( now blocked).

a religouse friend (not blocked ) iam waiting his invite to the churches christmas lunch.

its free and excellent.. a total stranger (now blocked).

The only thing I've stopped entirely is using facebook. Too much useless content. I'm not interested in knowing every time someone breaks a fingernail while adjusting their prosthetic boob.

that reminds me, I need to check my farmville crops.

The other day I was at work during lunch and cruising Craigslist. Just for the fun I check the personals....and I find one of my son's friends looking for a girl with integrity. Out of all my sons friends, from jr high and high school, this boy was one of my favorite. Even as a kid, he was funny, cute, intelligent, respectful, he didn't have a mom, only a dad and older sister, don't remember why. Now as a man, damn, he's all grown up........and if I was single and 25 yrs younger..hmmm..

Anyway, I messaged him and he wrote back, and he asked about me and my husband and asked if he could stop by and see us, as we "were always his favorite as far as his friends' parents went, and we always treated him nice and with respect."

Anyway...good luck finding someone,
