i find paragraph 20 quite interesting in the jan 2010 study article.

"prove to be a real follower of christ".
I also doubt this story is true.
Although the following IS true I witnessed it.
Years after I left the JW's, I went to visit my husbands' mother and we went to a service at her church. After the service, there was a meeting for a lack of a better word, I'm going to call it a "FIELD SERVICE MEETING" Several members, mostly older women and or retired couples made a list of those that were sick. in hospital, have needs, ie: need rides, groceries (think prepared meals for families where the members or their loved ones.... were sick), ect. They decided who was available on what days and times. And not just for that afternoon, but for everyday for the next week. Think Comfort Keepers.
When my mom was in the hospital after knee replacement, I called and ask who had visited, first she said no one...then she corrected herself and said that a couple of pioneers did stop by to see her. When pressing her for more information, she admitted that one of them had a bible study that was in the hospital and they stopped by after visiting her.
When I quized my dad about it..telling him about when my husband's mom was in the hospital, there was someone or more than likely several people with her or in the waiting room with the others that were there to see her, the entire time she was in the hospital from check in to check out. He said..Well the brothers and sisters are VERY busy people.

if you believe in "god" do you avoid using the name "jehovah"?
even if you don't accept a god, does using that name "jehovah" disturb you in any way?.
It doesn't bother me.
Like wobble, when I was in I was "Jehovah" sensitive, when hearing it used outside of the Kingdom Hall.
Now I'm more bothered when people write CHRISTmas, ..I'm like, come on..., really..really. You're really going there.

our odd body of elders would not allow the one person who wanted to mow the lawn at the kingdom hall to do this because he was not getting 10 hours in a month, he was only getting in 7. seriously.. were you ever told you couldn't have a "privilege" because you didn't measure up to their lofty standards?.
Blondie, ..yes it was my parents. I never let on that I was glad they left me in the car. Who wants to clean?

when i became a jw back in 1989, i had already alienated my family.
this lasted until a few months ago.
when mom got sick, they were there.

I remember now being allowed to 'vacation pioneer' one summer. I was sooo relieved. I just applied because I was being pressured.
I remember not being allowed to clean the KH, so had to sit in the car and the rest of my family went in with the bros and sisters, to clean..I listened to music in the car. I couldn't believe this was my punishment. I pretended to be upset.
I remember not being allowed to give 'talks'. ha..i hated giving them, so I didn't care.

there are many generations of xjws here.
i'm curious as to what happened to you in school.. were you sent to the library during festivities, allowed to stay home, or allowed to participate?
enter the years if you can and the number of jw's with you.. mine: mid 1960's to mid 70's.
Mid 60's to late 70's..school years. In the library all alone. Good thing I loved to read.
I think the other JW kids must have stayed home. I wasn't the only JW in the schools.

i can remember being in the freezing snow and so cold my fingers were numb, i desparatly wanted someone to invite me in, just to warm up even, but no one did.. i got soaked on countless occasions having been dropped off in some remote corner of the territory, trying to find shelter in a thunderstorm.. i got burnt to a crisp in just half an hour in a uk heatwave, of course no one was at home... they were all far more sensible and had gone to the beach!.
Massive poop attack right?...
gezz thanks for sharing.
I remember going...in the snow..in a dress....Jehovah doens't like womenz in pants.
