I read Ehrman’s Misquoting Jesus and sections of Lost Christianities, both very intriguing and eye opening books. Actually, Misquoting Jesus was one of the first books that I read which was not related to JW stuff. They sparked my interest into studying the historical context of early Christianity.
But…from my experience as a JW, I learned to always check and consider the other side of the argument, in other words, to check what other have to say about certain points. So, a little after reading Misquoting Jesus, I read Reinventing Jesus by J. Ed Komoszewski. I highly recommend reading this book, and The Historic Reliability of the Gospel. Both books present an excellent response to the questions raised by Ehrman’s books; also, they further clarify certain historical events and details that were misrepresented by Ehrman in his books.
Here is a good video....

It's OK Lurkers, Paranoid former JW's, and even you current JW's....
by AllTimeJeff init's ok.... to post here on the internet, on jwn, and other jw related forums.. first of all, as we all know, the governing body doesn't provide a forum for jw's to "associate" with their brothers and sisters.
i'm just guessing, and i could be wrong, that its harder to control the flock when they have free access to information and each other.
damn electricity and the technology it brings..... anyway, i realize that for anyone leaving, or for practicing jw's, to post is a nervous thing.

When I first started to post, I got a little paranoid thinking that I would get caught. And for a short time, I even believed that some fellow elders were suspecting that I was onemore from the apostate site. But nahhh! It was all an unfounded fear.
As a matter of fact, posting here helped me to release some of the tension I was building-up inside my heart. I would never regret posting here; it has been a big therapy for me. Thanks to this forum, I was able to: 1) get out of serving as an elder in a smooth painless fashion; 2) help my wife see the truth about the “Truth”; 3) plan and execute my fade; 4) realize that I was not alone in my doubts and confusion; and last but not least…I was able to free myself from the fear and control that the WT exercised over me for so many years.
The discussions, the personal experiences, the open flow of ideas and information all of those things combined helped me in my quest for truth and freedom.
So…lurkers and new ones! Don’t be afraid…King Kong ain’t got nothing on YOU!
JW Gonebad. Welcome to this forum. My respects to you sir! So that you know, you have a brother and a friend in arms, on the other side of your monitor. Your experience reminds me of a clip from the movie The Invasion…I wonder how many thousands (maybe millions) of active JW feel and act in a similar way.

Have you heard of the Book of Church Order?

If not, you can download a free copy by clicking here. http://www.pcaac.org/bco.htm
But I guess the real question is, what is the Book of Church Order? In JW lingo, it’s the equivalent of the Elder’s Manual but for the Presbyterian Church; the most significant difference, between the manuals, is that one is available to ALL church members and the general public and the other is not.
I'm bringing this up as another point to demonstrate that the WT is a deceptive organization that hides its self from being scrutinize by its members . Why is the Elder’s Manual an exclusive publication? After all, aren't we all members of the same body?
I guess it’s just getting harder and harder to avoid coming to the conclusion that I got recruited into a religious cult.

Ex-JW Resources
by brotherdan indoes anyone have some good ex-jw or current jw resources that are free and online that they would like to share?
i know that one thing that helped me greatly was hearing mp3s by the late great bill cetnar.. i though this thread could be a place to save as a favorite and keep for whenever you need some reminders about why the organization is so wrong and how to build yourself up.. here are a few sites i've come across that have great audio and video resources for us:.

Not necessarily an Ex-JW resource. But a Christian apologetic who has had a lot of experience debating many of the JW doctrines. Here is a sample:

Out Sourcing
by snowbird ina poster mentioned that wt may be using an outside source to join discussion boards such as this one in order to track down copyright infringements.. it that is true - it is certainly plausible and feasible - wouldn't that be something?.
the great and lofty watch tower, having to rely on elements of satan's sytemtm to protect its interests!.
imagine!.

I work in a field where copyright infringement has been an issue since the late 90’s- early 2000’s. And to this date, copyright infringement through the internet remains a big problem. The Law of the Land has not been able to completely catch up with technology. In the old days, the in-house legal team had the skills and knowledge necessary to fight the old fashion copyright violations, but today….an entire industry relies on specialized outside firms to handle the internet or digital copyright infringements (search, track-down, delete and report).
My gut feelin tells me (and I’m almost certain) that the WT either hired a “worldly” consulting firm to train a few bethalites to deal with this issue, or it is paying an outside firm to do the job for them. I either case, one thing is for sure…they had to go to the “world” to deal with today’s internet apostates!
