Please keep them coming. I’m trying to help a JW friend give up his eldership position, he is under a lot of stress and just don’t know how to let it go. He is open to borderline “heretic” conversations. So, I’m trying to put a profile together of what would make a moderate JW resign from being an Elder.

5) If you knew the implications of being an “independent agent”, would you have resigned or stopped fallowing all of the GB’s orders?

that's the simplest way for me to express how i feel in the wt org.
like many here, my eyes were slowly opened over the years as i did more earnest research, trying to reconcile some long standing spiritual quandaries.
Welcome to the board.
As you post, please remember that there are possibly thousands of curious, doubting, concerned friends who sneak onto to this website in search of something. Show them they are not alone. Show them they are not dependent on any man-made religious entity. Show them that love, goodness, and compassion exist an more places that they may have ever known. Don't scare them away. Give them a reason to return.
These were wonderful words.
I’m also a former elder, and currently serving as an active member of the “conscious class” spreading the word about the truth about the “Truth”.
A reform was impossible 20 or 30 years ago, but times are different now. ”…a lot has changed. Lately I’ve been hopeful that with the right leadership from within (elders and publishers), I believe that we will witness (no pun intended…LOL) a major schism.

i got to thinking about this and for me anyway, they would have to come clean on at least the following things:.
an honest retraction must be made on all the ridiculous chronology (of course including the false prophecies).
by this i mean, stop this psuedo numerology stuff of adding up this or that date, adding on x many years, etc.
I believe that there is just ONE damaging practice and doctrinal stand, that if done away with, the doors will open for significant changes in the organization; and that is...the shunning policy. They do away with the shunning and the JW will start living a more “normal life”. They could continue excommunicating members, as this practice is supported by the bible after all, but severe shunning is not.
No more shunning, more of us will simply disassociate and cause no further troubles.
No more shunning and more JW will exercise their conscience in matters of education and blood.
No more shunning, and more of us will freely talk to others about the doctrinal and ethical problems of the Watchtower Corp.
And I believe that that change could be brought from the outside in. There has to be a way to put pressure on the GB to change the shunning policy.
