Of course it makes sense! If you are an elder you can gossip to your buddies about the wacky sex-lives of the r&f who come to you for help.

Does ANYTHING About JWs Make Sense To You?
by minimus ini've been thinking about why people become jehovah's witnesses and why they remain in the religion.. it seems like almost everything they believe in is flawed.. the chronology, which this religion is founded on is a problem.. their understanding of bible prophecy is pathetically funny.
they teach everything in prophetic bible books ultimately apply to them.. their belief that the "faithful & discreet slave class" exists is ridiculous.
in all fairness, they cannot 'prove" anything they say about their organization as being "truth".

Violent TV will lead us to slaughter each other at the Big A!!--July 15th, 2010 WT

in fact, it could well be that the numerous forms of violent entertainment popular today are conditioning the minds of many for the time when each man's hand "will actually come up against the hand of his companion.

I noticed the reference to 'websites' in the article. The generation growing up now won't join or buy anything without researching it on the net first, so the WTBTS is doomed. They are desperate to scare existing members into staying.

Well I went to jw.org and downloaded the MP3 "What will Jehovah's day reveal", and I think this article is a classic. I used to sit in the Kingdom Hall thinking about what song would be No. 1 on the Top 40, but when a Watchtower article like this was studied, it used to really scare me! No wonder I'm a fruit cake: week after week of this stuff is enough to fry anyone's brain..

What I would really like is for someone to start a Smurf thread. I'm in Australia and I heard the story of the Smurf walking out of the Kingdom Hall in the mid 80's. It was told to us by one of the elders in a talk from the platform, and if we could collate all our experiences we might find out if this story was started by the WTBTS or not.

What year Did you Stop Attending Meetings - How Long were you a JW ?
by flipper ini'm trying to compare some statistics and figures on this to share later in the thread to see if more long-time witnesses are exiting- or are newer witnesses exiting after a shorter period of time.
and - are more people exiting in the last 10 to 15 years than before.
so your answers would be helpful in looking into this .

I left as soon as I safely could- 1988 at the age of 20. I was virtually 'born in' to the Borg. What a horrible thing to happen to a child! I thought either there was no god; or if there was one he didn't like me, so I had nothing to lose by 'fading'. Never baptized, thank god. Or whoever you are...

I don't care about right or wrong anymore- I just do what works. I stumbled through the doors of A.A. ten years ago and I wished I had got there sooner. Of course the Dubs will pour scorn on A.A.- it represents a challenge to their 'spiritual' monopoly. If I was an active Dub with a serious drinking problem I would sneak off quietly to A.A. and not tell anybody; at least not for a few months. I've heard A.A. described as a cult, but it is a fellowship of people with a common goal, and it has a spiritual program far superior to anything the Dubs can offer. Worked for me.

hehehe. Your computer is OLD. If I bought a new computer it would have an i3 Intel CPU and a Seagate hard drive. It would be cheap but upgradable later on when the i7 becomes cheaper. All the Core2Duo chips are pretty much obselete now. Hope this helps...

I walked out of the Kindom Hall twenty years ago because none of it made any sense. I 'studied the bible' with two different brothers but when we prayed I never felt that there was anyone listening. I wanted to be a good Witness but I was never able to believe in god in an emotional way. Now I don't believe in god at all. I tried praying to my 'Higher Power', and that seemed to work slightly better, but it's still an illusion. I got a letter from a family member last year asking me to "consider my relationship with Jehovah." I wish. Whether you pray to god or shout at god, or curse god, he never replies. It only matters to yourself. Crazy religion.

No I don't believe anyone here has been permanently warped by the Borg any more than your parents could do the same to you.
by gubberningbody inyou are who you are so much more due to your own peculiar genetic inheritance, and this is what eventually prevails.. there was a longitudinal study i read a number of years ago that tested the idea that we all have inborn "happiness setpoints".
these people in the study were followed through 20-25 years and periodically examined as regards their self-reported measures of happiness.
the finding was that no matter what happened either positively or negatively in their lives, within 8-12 weeks they were universally back to their baseline.. this means a couple of things:.

I suppose the question is, would you rather be free and unhappy, or enslaved and unhappy. Just as money can't buy you happiness, would you rather be rich and unhappy or poor and unhappy? If you leave the Borg at least you will have much more free time to be yourself...
