I know that WTB&TS was successful in sutting down the "Quotes" website ... I am curious, have they made legal threats or used any strong-arm tactics against other sites like this one or freeminds or jwfacts ?

Overlapping generations once more - some tie-in I'm not aware of?
by teel inthe other day i casually mentioned to my wife how weird the new generation teaching sounds.
she at first had no idea what i'm talking about.
she read the article, yet she noticed no doctrine change (sidenote: way to go gb!

I brought up the new generation explanation to the CotBoE (The Elder Formerly Known as PO) a few weeks ago, his words ... it makes more sense now.

Do We Give WTS Too Much Credit? Are They Maybe Just Dummies?
by OnTheWayOut ini know many just want to shout yes to that second question, but hold on a second.. i go back and forth wondering if there is evil intent to manipulate and lie to the "flock" through the pages of watchtower and from the platform at conventions or if they really believe most of their own nonsense.. i won't load my post with endless examples (but feel free to use them) of this.
i will post just two to make my thoughts.
sometimes, i read comments about their long-term planning to get more money or lose less money and gain more members or retain more of the captives.

My two cents - When I look at the days of "The Judge", it almost seems like the flock were pawns in an "l'll show you!" to the rest of the world. Like he set up the flock to be persecuted wherever there was a conflict so they could take one for the Judge.
Today, I can't help but think that "The Organization" has taken on an identity of its own, it lives, and the GB believes it is God's organization and will continue to search for new light because it not being God's org isn't an option.
Of course, that is just my current opinion.

It is true that I feel I can trust most if not all of the friends in the hall with valuables. But it drives me nuts when JW's think they have an exclusive on honesty. I have wtnessed plenty of acts of kindness by so-called "worldly" people that weren't motivated by hoping to be able to follow-up with a literature placement or a religious affiliation name drop.

How many of you were baptised at a young age?
by lepermessiah inone thing this site has made me reflect on the baptism practice in jw land.. many of us were raised in the religion, thus you were given the pressure early on to shoot for baptism as a goal.. i remember feeling bad because i waited until the ripe old age of 14 to take the plunge.. looking back, i realize that when i was 14, i didnt even know what my favorite color was, let alone have enough knowledge to make a life altering decision.
yet, growing up in that climate, i would say anyone who waited past their early teens to get baptised was viewed with great suspicion and was likely to be viewed as "bad association".
kids who took the dip at 8-9 years of age were viewed as "wise beyond their years" and the like.. how old were some of you when you were baptised, and what are your feelings on the matter?.

WOW!!! Just found out from someone who went to the one day assembly....
by Lady Liberty inhello friends... just found out that at the recent one day assembly they are now really discouraging people from getting married!!!!!
they will lose young ones like crazy if they start telling them that they cannot get married...what are these sexually frusterated young people to do??
you cannot masterbate, you cannot have sex outside of marriage (not that i would encourage it either, but...), now you cannot even get married?????

I would absolutely LOVE IT if that genius Loesch ever bans watching American football
I thought this was kind of close to that, not an outright ban, but I can only think of two sports that resemble this comment ...
>> From the 2006 book 'Jehovah's Day' chap. 9 p. 121 par. 19 <<
Ask also, ‘Would [Habakkuk] set aside time to be a spectator at so-called sports events that are violent by design, players even wearing protective armor like that of ancient gladiators?' -

When I was "studying" my mom told me it was a phase I was going through. She studied in '74 and got away before getting anywhere. I wonder if I stuck with it just to try and prove her wrong? DAMN!

The Art of Deflection - Proverbs 13:12
by wannabefree inanother special assembly day experience .... this is one that gets me.
one of the talks went on about patience, stick with it, almost there, don't give up on jehovah, he's not slow respecting his promise, his patience saves lives ... etc.
it's not jehovah that i gave up on.

Another Special Assembly Day experience ...
This is one that gets me. One of the talks went on about patience, stick with it, almost there, don't give up on Jehovah, he's not slow respecting his promise, his patience saves lives ... etc. etc. etc.
PLEASE! It's not Jehovah that I gave up on. Don't guilt me by claiming its my being impatient with Jehovah! I am tired of a religion that says it speaks for Jehovah! It's the FALSE PROPHET I have lost patience for.
I understand why the Jewish scribes were worried about God's name being used abusively and so tried to protect it and not use it ... look at the shame the organization has brought upon that name!
The impatience comes from Proverbs 13:12 (NWT) Expectation postponed is making the heart sick, but the thing desired is a tree of life when it does come.
Expectation postponed is when you are told year after year after decade after decade ... keep in expectation, where almost there, just around the corner, we're at the doorstep, we're just inches away, we're close now, just think how much closer we are than when you became a believer ....
It makes me sick.
