Question for Billy The Ex-Bethelite and others who had forgone college sometime ago.

i was talking with my wife today about college and i asked her about why the society makes such a big deal about witnesses not going to college.

in typical dub fashion, my wife tells me that they do not discourage college, but they do not encourage it either.

instead, they encourage placing kingdom interests first.. now i told her about you (billy) and how you were at bethel and are now starting college at the age of 40 (i think that is correct).

To help you before you take a false step that will lead to spiritual harm (Gal. 6:1), we strongly urge you not to go to college or university as the end is very soon and you will not be able to practice your profession, it is a waste of time and will take you away for the most important activity anyone can be involved in, the preaching of the Good News of the Kingdom TM, as taught by Jehovah's Organization TM , mankind's only true hope. Captives of a Concept

i'm reading "captives of a concept", by don cameron.

cameron holds that the one thing that keeps jehovah's witnesses prisoners in the watchtower is the idea that they are in "god's organization", and, therefore, the right thing to do, in spite of what one sees, is to stay within it.

cameron also says that those jehovah's witnesses who become convinced that the watchtower is not god's organization eventually leave.

I think this is pretty much just based on the .... EVIDENTLY because the preaching virtually stopped while the top dogs were in prison, then they were released to an increased preaching campaign, this is the evidence that they were the chosen ones.

I would like to hear your experiences with being SHUNNED

i am going to put together a page of short experiences of how shunning has affected exjws.

you do not have to be disfellowshipped, even if you were shunned after being marked or after fading.

all comments are welcome, such as who shunned you, how long since family have spoken to you, what your situation is, why you are being shunned and how it has made you feel.

I read these experiences and wonder if I am ready for this? How can I put my children through this pain? The easiest course would be to live the life of a hypocrite. I am so sad for you for the bad experiences. I have never felt comfortable ignoring a disfellowshipped person. I feel I should make a stand for the sake of my minor children and adult, letting them know its okay to leave, it doesn't seem to help in the experiences I have read. Oh the love of the brotherhood for those not spiritually strong in a Watchtower prescribed way. What a loving provision to bring people to their senses to return to the love of Jehovah's one true organization. It is sickening.

What a messed up Cult the JW religion is

i'm reading coc for the first time.

a governing body that is suppose to be god's channel on earth and led by jehovah's holy spirit could not even change jw dogma even though the majority of those present voted for change.

there had to be a 2/3's vote of the total gb membership.

BANE - I didn't say I hate you, I said YOU were hateful. Jesus was not hateful. He exposed the hypocrisy of the Jewish religious leaders. He viewed the people as abused and in need of a shepherd. You are acting hateful towards people here who have recognized the hypocrisy of a religion. You are acting hateful towards Ray Franz, who, if you actually did read his book(s), would find was a very loving and humble Christian man. He was without hatred toward any of Jehovah's Witnesses, all the way up to the top.

Jesus words ... (Luke 23:34) . . ."Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.". . . by his words and deeds, it is evident that Ray was a true follower of Christ.

i reject those who adhere to the wtbs as having any legitimate right to that claim and as such this is an example of a language hijack.. .

It is not even God's name. If they called themselves "Yahweh's Witnesses" I would find it more offensive.

Now now, using the name Jehovah harmonizes with all other biblical names such as Jesus, Jeremiah, Jehu, Jehonadab ... etc.

If you insist on using Yahweh, to be consistent, you should reject the name Jesus and use Yeshua.

Do You Think "Religious" People Are Generally "Nicer" Than Non-Religious Ones?

there are many religious people in this world.

many that i know, are very friendly, accomodating and personable....because they're trying to act "christian".

the same applies to some observant jews that i know.

I think a religious person and a person of faith are two different things. My opinion is that "religious" is something put on, "faith" comes from within.

Because I am one who believes in God, I believe that since man (humankind) was created in God's image, one doesn't have to believe in God to reflect these loving qualities. (Romans 2:14-15)
