I don't think that needs any excuses. Even after "tough love" the people didn't return to God. How sad.

God is so much more than the words in the bible, as is Christ.
Maybe that should have been my entire argument. Nicely said, Tammy.

But, coming off a lifetime of being a JW is like coming off a lifetime of heroin. For me I can't quit cold turkey, as much as I want to, so I try to find humor in my old belief system. JWN allows me to have that outlet.
And I totally respect that.

pretty much any Fundie Religious belief system doesn't want me to do: think.
And that is just not true. That's a common fallacy that atheists like to use. Those that believe in God are not "smart" or "intelligent" people, and atheists are the truly enlightened.

Ex 20:25 - If you use stones to build my altar, use only natural, uncut stones. Do not shape the stones with a tool, for that would make the altar unfit for holy use.
But touche'. It was passive agressive. But he was the one calling my age into question and trying to turn the debate personal. That's what is done in a debate when you feel backed into a corner. But you're right. I'll leave it at "Agree to disagree"

EVERYONE has cognitive dissonance going on.
Not regarding the truth of the Bible that God is "real" and derving of respect, and that Jesus is the Christ.

I don't see people rejecting "God", I see them rejecting the god of the Old Testament. That is a big difference.
Not as big of a difference as you may think.
Psalms 82:1 is clear. It is speaking of Jesus ruling in the midst of human rulers. John 10:34 refers to this scripture directly when Jesus said, "“‘I said, you are gods’” I'm not sure if you were trying to use this scripture to prove polytheism...
Also, since "Jehovah" is used when speaking (at different times) of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, the account of Jehovah "inheriting" Israel would be speaking of Jesus inheriting it from his Father.
I don't see the problem here.
